Chapter 1435: Second Reason

Chapter 1435: Second Reason

The second reason for the success of the operation was none other than Kevin Stargaze.

"Kevin... Do you think this is what you’re supposed to do as an arbiter?" An old man gritted his teeth, glaring at Kevin.

Kevin simply smiled, saying, "Of course. While the inquisitor is considered the kingdom’s hunting dog, the arbiters are known as the guardians of the kingdom.

"Tell me, Carl. I am the Fleeting Arbiter, while you are the Wind Arbiter... If we are truly the guardians of the kingdom, what are we supposed to protect?"𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

The old man gritted his teeth. "At the very least, it’s not something like a rebellion."

Kevin shook his head. "Have you grown so senile that you can’t even realize the truth? We end up in this state because there’s already a crack in the kingdom. And that crack is the Supreme Devil Organization.

"If we are the hounds, that organization is a predator. Do you think a predator will follow its owner? Of course not.

"Instead, look at where we are... The poison of that predator has seeped through our bones and is gradually killing us."

The old man clenched his hands in frustration. While he didn’t agree with his statement, he couldn’t refute it either.

"Then, do you think a guardian will sit still when the body is getting destroyed right now?"

"I wonder who is actually destroying it..." Kevin squinted his eyes. "If you remain quiet like this, are you really guarding it or are you simply enabling the poison to gradually kill the body? Can you really be called a guardian?"

"Even if I can’t be called one, do you think you can be called one with your method?"

"Of course not." Kevin made a faint smile. "That’s why we are here, sitting in front of each other. You stop me, I stop you. We are fulfilling our duties together. There is no right and wrong between us because both of us are wrong.

"At the same time, there’s no other solution. We might regret our decision today, but for now, let’s do our duty together."

"Is that how you convince the others?" Karl clicked his tongue.

"Not really. I have a lot of respect for you, Wind Arbiter... You are one of the oldest among Arbiters. I have heard of your story fighting together with the Sword Arbiter. It’s just... There’s always a time for change.

"Of course, if you wish to break out from here, I don’t exactly mind. But will you do that?"

Karl’s expression turned solemn. As Kevin said, if they fought together, they could somehow change the situation. At the same time, both of them knew what kind of aftermath awaited them after this battle.

Their battles would decimate a part of the royal capital. Hence, no one could act unless they wanted to incur people’s wrath.

In fact, they had sensed the power coming from the royal palace. It looked like the marshal had made his move, but it looked like someone was fighting him as well.

Seeing both of them not unleashing their full strength, it was clear that the marshal believed destroying the capital city was not the solution.

"Is that..." Carl glanced at the window.

Kevin shook his head. "I don’t know, but I don’t think he will come to this place. While I don’t know a lot of things about my son-in-law, my daughter has always said that both of them love the kingdom and don’t want to harm it.

"So, I don’t think it’s them. If I have to say..." Kevin paused for a moment.

Carl sighed while scratching the back of his head. "I heard the third prince has become a spirit transcendence."

"Yes. My daughter told me the same thing. I never thought he could grow that strong, honestly. After all, when we fought in the succession battle several years ago, he was supposed to be only a spirit practitioner.

"While he might be considered the most talented in the royal family, there are even more talented people among arbiters, let alone my daughter and her husband.

"Yet, for some reason, he’s able to become a spirit transcendence, surpassing all those talented people. I’m assuming he has the connection..."

Carl pinched the bridge of his nose. "The Supreme Devil Organization, huh? I guess it’s possible. But there’s also another possibility. The one coming this time might be the new transcendent..."

"Do you mean Sword Arbiter?" Kevin squinted his eyes. "Now that I think about it, it’s possible. Duke Lorelei might have been maintaining his neutrality this whole time, but he loves this kingdom more than any of us arbiters.

"He might not take action because he doesn’t have the strength to beat the marshal back then, but after becoming a spirit transcendence, it’s different."

"Yeah. I don’t know if that old man has a solution or not, but... he’s not all brawn and no brain. He is shrewd like all of us. Sometimes, I even fell for his trick." Carl sighed.

"Well, he’s a great mentor." Kevin nodded. There were a lot of memories about Duke Lorelei, especially the time when he guided a lot of arbiters. Sometimes, it was just a lighthearted prank, but other times, it was a harsh scolding. Either way, they had grown a lot because of it.𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

That was also why they respected Duke Lorelei a lot.

"Well... It looks like you have influenced some arbiters. Are they doing the same thing as you?"

"Yes. All I ask is for you to sit still until tomorrow morning. I will do the same. Although it’s a bad thing to sit and look at an old man for a whole night, I guess it’s something I can endure..."

"You little..." Carl shook his head helplessly. "Well, since all of you are going to stay put, I guess there’s no reason for me to unleash my power as well. Tomorrow morning, huh? Is it really going to end tomorrow morning?

"If the one clashing with Conrad is Duke Lorelei, then how about the third prince? As someone who wants the throne the most, the third prince will most likely come..."

"That’s..." Kevin smiled. This was the third and fourth reason why the night remained so peaceful.
