Chapter 1419: The Original Hongmen Banquet
Chapter 1419: Chapter 1419: The Original Hongmen Banquet
The gathering was set at a mid-to-high-end restaurant, a place Jian Dan had visited before, but she never returned because the food didn’t quite suit her taste.
"Wenwen, why did you choose this place? I heard it’s hard to get a reservation here."
"It’s indeed difficult to book here, but the manager happens to be my friend."
"Wenwen’s connections really are extensive!"
"Of course, our Wenwen had been developing her career in America before returning because she was offered a high salary by Jiaxin." Liu Wenwen hadn’t even spoken when Zhang Luna took the initiative to speak for her.
Liu Wenwen didn’t mind, after all, some things are more convincing when said by others than by oneself.
"Jiaxin? The Jiaxin Finance that ranks in the top five?"
"Exactly!" Zhang Luna responded first again.
Jian Dan, sitting in the corner, glimpsed Zhang Luna’s expression and couldn’t help but curl her lips.
To those unaware, it might seem all this praise was about her.
So eager?
Ordinary people wouldn’t notice Jian Dan’s expression at the moment, but Liu Wenwen, since coming in, occasionally glanced her way.
And just now, Liu Wenwen caught Jian Dan’s expression.
That expression naturally upset Liu Wenwen a lot.
Back in school, Jian Dan always surpassed her, but now things were different; she was someone many looked up to, and organizing this reunion was primarily aimed at showcasing this change.
Naturally, she most wanted Jian Dan to look up to her, but Jian Dan still behaved as arrogantly as she did in school, which infuriated her.
Yet, she couldn’t show her annoyance and kept a smile on her face, "Don’t say that; I’m just a minor manager at Jiaxin Investment Department, nothing impressive.
Jian Dan should be doing even better, right?" Liu Wenwen subtly shifted the focus onto Jian Dan.
At Liu Wen Wen’s words, they suddenly remembered Jian Dan, turning their attention towards her.
"Yes! Jian Dan was the top student in our class back then, both teachers gave her high hopes!" Zhang Luna interjected.
"Jian Dan, we really haven’t seen you much since graduation, what are you up to now?" another classmate asked.
At this question, Liu Wenwen looked at Jian Dan with a smirk of mockery.
She invited Jian Dan precisely to embarrass her.
"Me? I haven’t achieved much, just started a small company, enough for a living!" Instead of being angry, Jian Dan spoke lightly.
Liu Wenwen frowned—how come this was different from what she heard in the afternoon?
Definitely, Jian Dan was holding her ground to save face!
Once certain of this, she gave Zhang Luna a signal, who immediately understood, "Wow, running a company? What kind of company is it?"
"Just a very small one, not worth mentioning!" Jian Dan had no grand pretensions, after all, her New E Media was indeed a small company compared to Qin Corporation. "We’ve been here for quite a while, everyone must be hungry by now, let’s order quickly!" Jian Dan said this because she was genuinely hungry.
But to Liu Wenwen and Zhang Luna’s ears, it sounded like Jian Dan was dodging the topic out of insecurity.
"Since Jian Dan doesn’t want to talk about it, let’s not force her. It’s not good to pressure someone!" Zhang Luna’s tone was dripping with mockery. "Let’s order, the food here isn’t something everyone can enjoy!" she said, glancing purposely in Jian Dan’s direction.
Anyone with eyes could see what was happening, and they started casting unfriendly looks toward Jian Dan.
But Jian Dan didn’t care; these people weren’t particularly nice to her during school days anyway.
After ordering the food, as they waited, the conversation picked up again, but nobody spoke to Jian Dan, who also couldn’t be bothered conversing with them and sat there fiddling with her phone.
Because she was engrossed in her phone, she didn’t notice someone had approached her.
