Chapter 1571 The Challenge of Immortality

Chapter 1571 The Challenge of Immortality

“Now that you have your Immortal Spirit fully formed for protection, you should look for the chance to take an outing. Going to see one of the many dungeons, hidden realms or trial areas would be good for you.

Just look for a larger group to go with, and they can explain the basics to you.

Oh, I suppose you’ll want to wait for your wife to be ready to come with you. I forgot that you were married, so few of the young Immortals are. But then, few of the older ones are, either.

Faithfulness is challenging to come across when you understand what ‘forever’ means.”

Karl chuckled. “Well, I don’t have to worry about that. With the Soul Bond, I don’t have to worry too much about things breaking down. You don’t have breakups when your thoughts and emotions are shared.”

The Elder smiled. “Well, I wouldn’t guarantee that. I’ve met some truly horrible people. But you certainly don’t have the cheating and games that lead to most of the issues. And, with a Soul Bond, you don’t have the risk of throwing the other under the bus in an emergency because it also hurts you.

That alone is likely the largest reason that Immortals are bad at dating.

Well, that and the fact that for most Sects, the average lifespan of an Immortal Rank combat specialist is under forty years after reaching Immortality.”

Karl shook his head. “You know that still shocks me. How can Immortals be so bad at immortality?”

The Elder laughed. “Everyone wants to get ahead. Being the weakest Immortal is no different than being a common-ranked mortal. You get no respect.

So, they put their lives on the line to get as far ahead and gain as many opportunities as they can.

And there are plenty of opportunities.

Unlike the Mortal Realms, where mostly the Gods put something in place thousands of years ago and left them to their own devices, it’s not uncommon for deities to directly intervene in the Immortal Worlds.

They will add new trials, drop relics for us to fight over, and alter existing resources with ‘once in a thousand years’ level rare opportunities.

It is suspected that most of that is a grand plan by the Laughing God. He’s a Chaos God of pranks, among other things. But without proof, many believe that it’s the result of lesser gods fighting for power.

You see, for Divinities, worship is the best way for them to gain power.

Why is the World Dragon such a powerful God? Because he made Systems on thousands of worlds, and the residents worship him. With that much devotion behind him, it’s only natural that he would ascend to the ranks of the Greater Gods.

So, as he also made the System for this world, he holds great influence here. As his Avatar, you will most likely find that every outing you take will attract a large deal of good luck.

It’s part of the World Dragon’s most common bonuses, but it means that everyone travelling with you is also likely to end up in strange situations.

Sure, it might be a great opportunity.

But great and safe are not the same thing. The best opportunities come with extreme danger, and strong protectors.”

The Elder paused as Karl smiled.

“See, that’s the response I expected from you. But that’s not the response that most people have.

Immortal Beasts and Monsters might not be a huge threat one on one, but we both know that the moment you step into a monster populated dungeon or instance, there is never going to be just one threat to deal with.

The question is if it’s only two per person, or if it’s more.

Then, you need to get into team coordination, which most groups never even considered when they left the Clan. Realistically, only a few Clans even have the ability to work together properly.

Most of them teach a specialty technique.

Great for duels, but not so great for coordination, and they rely on resources to keep themselves alive and fighting, instead of making sure they have a healer, or arranging for a tank type. If their Clan even has any.”

“You know, you make it sound like the whole world is just full of individualists with zero coordination or structure.” Karl noted.

“You’re not completely wrong. Most of the Elders simply send their youngsters out in the world to fend for themselves.

The reason that most of the Clans even take in new disciples is for them to bring back resources. The new Immortals will use some, and bring back the rest.

That’s better for the Elders than going out to get it themselves while they’re doing whatever it is that they prefer.”

Karl nodded. “That’s the advantage of being the boss. You get to delegate. It’s not like you have to gather all the monk resources on your own, and if there is something really rare, you will get first shot at it if the one who collected it either can’t use it, or doesn’t know what it is.”

“That makes me sound so dishonest. But you’re not wrong, I get a lot of good stuff because nobody else sees its worth. Now, soon you’ll be one of the

Elders.

At the rate you’re going, I give it three decades, perhaps four, and you’ll be finishing your Void Stage transition.

Once you’re there, you’re pretty much a ringer for the Elder intake. With your creation talents, your team, and all the other skills that you have, I would say that it wouldn’t be a shock if you were accepted as an Elder with full benefits immediately after.”

“Well, now that would be a wonderful thing. I’ve just finished upgrading my apartment, so at the very least, I’ve got a good place to stay while I study.

With that as a place to unwind, I wouldn’t say that it will be a hardship even if I have to wait a few weeks for Dana to finish her Immortal Spirit.

She has a System Skill for it, but it wasn’t immediate.” Karl explained.

The Elder shrugged. “Having a skill for it is rare, but even if it takes a few

weeks, it’s still a guaranteed success. Not like some of the Mortal awakenings that struggle for years to find a way to even start.”
