Chapter 1935 Let’s get to work

Shireen looked at Lex slightly stunned. Part of it was because she was still reeling from the casual mention of the Primordial Queen, but a significant portion of her shock was due to the, quite frankly, amazing sales pitch that Lex gave her.

A part of her wanted to believe that Lex was exaggerating what he had said, but somehow it seemed impossible. Lex’s own notable achievements – the ones she knew of – were themselves a testament to just how extraordinary he was. Since last meeting him, Shireen had done some research on the rest of the Midnight Inn as well, and had discovered a few others who seemed extraordinary as well. If nothing else, just how common a time related bloodline was in the Midnight Inn was absurd.

Last time she met Lex, she told him that if something was too good to be true, it definitely wasn’t real. Lex’s description of how amazing the Inn was while offering her a job was exactly the kind of thing she was referring to… and yet, she found herself wanting to believe.

After so long, she could see a glimmer of hope once more. Her experience told her it was too good to be true, that even a glimmer of hope was too much after the kind of drain they had suffered at the hands of multiple Dao Lords. But in her heart, she found herself wanting to believe.

Shireen looked away from Lex and at her sisters, using her spirit sense to get their opinions. She had told Lex that they weren’t afraid of dying, for they had waited long for the freedom to choose their death. In that case, was the pursuit of such a dream a worthy cause to risk their lives for? Her heart said yes, but too used to being rational, she could not make a decision from her heart, so she held a moot among her sisters.

They discussed, they debated, and compared this option presented in front of them to their prior plans. Truthfully, there was an element of risk even in this. But there was nothing in life without risk.

Lex waited patiently, even as minutes turned into hours. The Celestial Immortals had lived far longer than anyone else that worked at the Inn. Their concept of time was surely skewed, unaware of the urgency that each second held for Lex. Yet he did not rush them. This was a critical moment for Lex.

He wanted, did he needed, these twelve Angels working for the Inn, regardless of how weakened they were currently. The ways in which they could help the Inn were too many to count.

Their understanding of the universe at large was far greater than anyone else at the Inn at the moment. They had fought in actual, universal wars. More importantly, they had lived countless years inside the Seraphim Resort, so their understanding of hospitality over long periods of time far outstripped anything Lex could think of.

For example, the Inn could offer services or service packages that lasted months, years, maybe even centuries or millennia. Lex could even think of those packages himself, yet having never experienced such long periods of time, his imagination would be limited compared to someone who had.

Lex had learned from the Resort, and as per the requirements of a Quest he got, implemented three changes from the Resort inside the inn, making it better. As a result, he got the reward called Burgundy Violin – an exceptionally powerful tool that can imbue music with certain laws permanently. But since Lex could not really find a use for it himself, and since Gerard liked music a lot, considering he often went to play the piano in the Manor in his free time, Lex gave it to him. Gerard had loved the gift, claiming that he would use it to immortalize the Inn through a musical magnum opus.

It was nice to see that the improvements he made to the Inn had brought about positive change, but he was certain that the angels could suggest even more amazing ideas with a perspective that only time could bring.

Most importantly though, these twelve, exceptionally beautiful Angel baddies would wield divine energy, and Lex was in desperate need of exactly that at this time.

Six hours of discussions later, Shireen turned to look at Lex solemnly.

“I have discussed it with my sisters,” she said, her tone returning to her former composed state, her bearing once again that of a great warrior. “Although this decision is much more rushed than we are accustomed to making, at this point, we have nothing left to lose except our lives. As such, we might as well gamble. We accept your proposition to join the Midnight Inn – I request that we be treated fairly, and that we sisters are not asked to separate.”

Lex clapped his hands as he jumped forward, summoning twelve platinum keys which could be used to take a test to join the Inn.

Lex almost never skipped the requirement to go through the Inns test to hire employees. After all, it would take a single self-serving person, a single bad egg – metaphorically or literally depending on the sentience of the egg – to ruin the harmony of the Inn. However, he did take some liberties from time to time. “Excellent. These are keys to take the test to join the Inn. Once you pass the test, you’re officially a member of the Inn. However, considering the urgency of the situation, I am going to exercise my privilege and grant you six months of probationary-worker status since we can’t afford to waste time right now. If you have anything you need to do, I suggest you quickly do it, because we have work to get to.”

Shireen was taken aback by Lex’s urgency.

“So quickly? What’s wrong? Are we being invaded?” she asked, instantly referring to the Inn as ‘we’ without realizing it.

“Haha, not at all!” Lex exclaimed as he began to give out orders in his mind to various workers. “It’s just that the Inn is brand new, and we still have a lot of things we need to do. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it, and with time, you’ll learn to love it. Things are always either really peaceful, or really happening at the Inn. Now come on if you have nothing to do, I’ll introduce you to our resident Deity and blacksmith. We have very little time, and a lot of work left to

do.”

The angels did not know how to feel about Lex’s urgency, but since they were already considered probationary workers now, they took their task with the seriousness of an army command.

Instantly, the twelve angels who had been confining themselves to their village were ready to step out, and face the world once more.
