Chapter 1942 A short while later…
Lex had spent many years studying, furthering his understanding of the universe, whether it related to the mundane world of mortals, or the extraordinary world of cultivators. What that meant for Lex, in his given circumstances, was that he knew well how to use various materials to craft anything, from basic to complex items as per his requirements.
Of course, there was the possibility that the harvested materials here in the Arch-Heaven had different properties. Thus, everything required some testing. Fortunately, while he was suppressed, his abilities weren’t entirely restricted. Through the use of severely weakened arrays, and abilities of his own, he not only tested everything he gathered, but processed all of it so that it would be useful.
It took a few hours of work, but he went from having nothing to having a number of working parachutes. Of course, he didn’t truly have nothing, for there were many things in his spatial ring. It was just that Lex preferred to use local materials since they were acclimatised to this place. Also, he didn’t have any parachutes in his ring because he never imagined he’d ever need them.
Once ready, Lex climbed the mountain once more and after donning the parachute jumped off a height he was sure he could survive. The parachute worked just fine, fortunately. If items such as Icarus’ Wings which could be bought from the system shop worked here, he wouldn’t have needed to put in this effort. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Lex conducted a few more tests before eventually venturing towards the edge of the island. In truth, this was his greatest obstacle at the moment. Although called an island, the landmass he was on was massive, and confined to travel with his own two feet, it would take Lex days to reach the edge, which is why instead of running, he began crafting his second item: a paraglider.
Shortly after, he, Lex Williams, kidnapper of realms, ordinary worker of the Midnight Inn, escapee of Sin City, used a paraglider to soar through the air, riding along on the wind currents. It was not his awesome power, nor his high cultivation realm that kept him aloft – instead it was a recently crafted tool made of wood and bark and large leaves, reinforced in many ways.
Despite how incredibly sturdy the glider proved to be, this was actually quite risky because Lex did not know what obstacles Arch-Heaven might produce. However, he had no choice but to take risks.
Thus, after going through what seemed like a number of side quests, Lex reached the boundary of the island, and looked at the base of purple crystal upon which the island sat.
Looking down, Lex felt like he was standing at the edge of the starter village of a video game, and that only after leaving this place would he encounter the true face of this place. Of course, all such thoughts were merely in his mind. The Arch-Heaven surely did not conform to the starting setting of modern video games. Surely not.
Lex conducted a few more tests, dropping various materials onto the crystal to test whether it was harmful or if it had any reactions or not. Seeing that there was no reaction, he conducted another test by barely touching the crystal before retreating… yet nothing happened still.
Once he was sure it was fine, Lex stood on the crystal and dropped some rocks off the edge, making sure they were strapped to the parachutes. After conducting various tests to ensure that nothing unexpected happened to anything leaving the island, he prepared to leave.
Just to sate his curiosity, Lex tried to break off a piece of the purple crystal for himself, but he was unable to do so. Eventually, he gave up, and instead looked down.
If his parachute failed, a drop from this height, in his suppressed state, would surely kill him. But he didn’t think about that. All his tests had confirmed that nothing happened. Sure, the difference between a living and nonliving thing leaving the island might result in a different outcome. It was still a risk he had to take.
Filled with a mix of excitement, anticipation, and the slightest bit of anxiety that his famous ‘good luck’ would kick in, he jumped off.
Some time later, Lex would come to learn that the purple crystal he was standing on was a Dao level ingredient of the highest order, rare in both the Arch-Heaven, and the rest of the universe as well. At that time, he would greatly regret not trying harder to grab some. For now, though, he was falling through the air at an increasingly greater speed, putting some distance between himself and the island before deploying his chute.
He was also slightly concerned about the sparkly lights below him, but since they hadn’t done anything to the various rocks that had parachuted down, Lex hoped they wouldn’t do anything to him either. Even so, he was doing his best to fly away from them, yet he would not be able to avoid them completely. Once again, a short while later, Lex would learn that those sparkly lights were a powerful enchantment, the likes of which could not be encountered even if one wished to. Even Dao Lords would wish to bathe in the very lights Lex was actively trying to steer away from.
Despite his best efforts, Lex still ended up going through the lights at the very edge of the stream. The lights were absorbed into his body, yet nothing happened, and he seemed to suffer no consequences, so Lex temporarily put it out of his mind. When he returned to the Inn, he would conduct a scan of his body to make sure nothing fishy had happened.
Now free of everything he was worried about, Lex deployed his chute, greatly decreasing the speed of his descent. At the same time, he took a good look at the terrain beneath him, looking for signs of anything prominent that might give him hints as to his mission.
