Chapter 1507 - 1507: Bulk Transformation
Not even an hour later, Rex was already back meeting Grant.
Surprisingly enough, Grant seemed to be expecting him to come back.
He was sitting on a particular spot on the east side of the ruin, a small sitting place that viewed the tower in the distance. Once Rex found Grant, he wasted no time to ask the question in his mind, “Grant, tell me one thing. What exactly is the Forsaken Tower?”
Grant sighed as he knew that this question was coming.
It was the question that the previous teams asked him too, and he’d give Rex the answer he always gave.
“I don’t know…” He answered dejectedly. “As far as I know—at some point in the past, my ancestors built the Forsaken Tower. It has been there and connected to the Mahkam Ruin since I wasn’t even born yet, but I truly don’t know what it was for.”
Rex was troubled by this.
Knowing the purpose of the tower would help him anticipate unpredictable variables better.
He came here expecting Grant to know something, anything, but he didn’t.
Since he doesn’t know, the people certainly wouldn’t know anything either, which was bad news.
System, can you scan and deduce what the tower was for?
<Yes, but the user must scan the exact foundation that controls the tower. Be it an array or an ability,>
It can’t be done by scanning it from the outside?
<Negative. The user must at least find the foundation first. Only then could its purpose be deciphered.>
“Do you not have anything at all?” Rex asked—he was desperate for some clues.
Judging from how the sudden quest—now evolved into a chain sudden quest, he could tell taking down the Forsaken Tower wouldn’t be a walk in the park. If he really wanted to win and complete this without many casualties, he needed to know everything that could help him.
“I have only this…” Grant took out his necklace and showed it to Rex.
It was an old necklace—the pendant was already corroded almost completely.
But that didn’t matter, Rex immediately scanned it with the System.
<Scanning…>
<Notice: It is some sort of key for an unknown mechanism tied to the Mahkam Ruin.>
“A key…?” Rex frowned, but he quickly shook his head. “It’s not going to help.”
Since it was tied to the Mahkam Ruin—this wouldn’t help him in deciphering what the Forsaken Ruin was for. Additionally, since Grant didn’t know anything about the ruin, the tower, and the key, he must not know where the key even goes.
Rex turned away, leaning against the stone wall with his hand in contemplation.
In any case, the tower must hold something that lured the Voidal Monsters to remain there. Since it was originally built by Grant’s ancestors, it didn’t belong to the Voidal Monsters—from the start. There had to be something within the tower that drew them in, perhaps a long-dead Obelisk of Life? A Life Gem?
Throughout his time in the Spirit Realm, he knew Voidal Monsters were attracted to one thing.
Life Energy.
So whatever is inside must contain a lot of life energy.
Even the scout mentioned earlier that there were considerable traces of life energy inside the tower.
Rex was hopeful that this might be the case since if it was, the task would be a lot easier.
He could take that source and throw it outside the tower if that was really the case.
I’ll have to see what Crimoria and Viora found.
Not even excusing himself, Rex walked away and headed for the border where the others were waiting.
Grant glanced at where he had left before looking down at his necklace, rubbing the pendant with his thumb.
“Dhamar, we decided to try again, to hope again,” He mumbled, pinching the pendant hard as this was the only memorial of his dead, dear friend. “I refused to believe the ruin has no path forward. That man, Rex, has the same spirit as you. Perhaps with him, we might really be able to take down the tower.”
Moments later, Rex had already regrouped with the others.
Despite only being a few hundred-strong, the morale was still moderately high.
Seeing the air of absolute certainty around Rex helped them to believe that they could really win.
Rex was now standing in front of exactly ten Voidal Knights.
All were captured by the heirs, and each one of them varied in appearance.
Some looked like animals, while some looked monstrous, more like the monster from the Chaos Realm. Just looking at them left a bitter taste in Rex’s mouth—as he recalled that abomination.
That thing that imprisoned Edward, but he swallowed the bitterness and cut his hand.
“Force their mouth open,” Rex instructed coldly.
Upon hearing this, the few soldiers who were pinning these heavily wounded, Voidal Knights paused and exchanged a look, making sure that they were hearing it correctly. And they did, Rex really did tell them to force these monsters’ mouths to open.
“Rex!” Linthia hurriedly approached. “Are you going to turn them? Are you really, really sure?”
“Is it really, really okay?” She continued. “Is there no other choice?”
Having these Voidal Knights—experience the blessing of becoming a Silverstar Pack member, Linthia wasn’t really on board with the idea. Many across the Clarentium Empire or even throughout the entire Mortal Realm wanted to have this blessing.
So to think Rex would give it to these lowly monsters, it doesn’t sit right for Linthia.
On the other hand, Viora raised an eyebrow questioningly.
‘Turn them…?’ She repeated in her head with a frown. ‘What did she mean by turn them?’
Rex paused—he knew the risks of turning these Voidal Monsters into a Werewolf.
Most of them were probably going to turn out similar to Kraken, something that shouldn’t be a Werewolf of any kind. Not to mention, unlike Kraken, who viewed him as a parent, these Voidal Monsters have an immense amount of killing intent towards Rex.
It wouldn’t be surprising that these Voidal Knights are going to go berserk and attack him once turned.
But he didn’t care
All this time, I was playing it safe. Now, let’s really test if I’m really an Alpha.
“It’s only until we defeat the tower,” Rex answered firmly. “Once it was done, I’ll get rid of them.”
Hearing this, Linthia could only accept it as Rex seemed to have already made up his mind.
Despite his hesitation, Rex decided to go through with it.
He squeezed his hand and poured blood into the Voidal Knights’ mouth before the soldiers forced them to gulp it down, following his command. Rex did it to every single one of them. Additionally, he kept on pouring his blood—only stopping once the notification warning him of the blood limit appeared.
All of them have Immortal Spirit rank power, but Rex needed them to be stronger.
As strongly as they could to tackle the tower.
On the side, the others watched in silence—curious as to what he was doing.
Linthia did a good job telling the others to turn away, especially the no-name soldiers.
For her and perhaps everyone in the Clarentium Empire, this process was sacred.
It was the process of a new Silverstar Pack member being born.
Most of the soldiers, other than the key people, turned away out of respect for Rex.
But soon enough, they flinched and were startled by gnarly sounds coming from behind—It was akin to the sound of bones being broken—and flesh being torn. Even the painful wails from the Voidal Knights, which they were accustomed to, sounded different.
Moreover, their screeches made the soldiers feel bad—the raw pain could be felt through their voice.
All of them wondered what was inside Rex’s blood to make these monsters wail like that.
But none of them dared to turn around.
Once the blood took effect in them, the branded rune on their bodies glowed.
Rex already purchased ten runes from the Shop, the Berserker Rune that would increase their physical prowess past their limit in exchange for degrading their minds. It was a rough rune—reducing a creature of some intelligence to nothing but an animal.
Regardless, the trade-off was acceptable.
Each one of them will have a physical strength that was a minor rank higher than their previous selves.
It was a risk Rex was willing to take, and now it was up to him to control them.
Roar!!
Soon, the Voidal Knights swelled in size and transformed in front of the others’ eyes.
Everyone was shocked as the transformation was grotesque and bloody, the Voidal Knights were turned into something else entirely, something more like a man and wolf hybrid. Viora was also surprised, but the reason she was surprised was different compared to the others.
‘He even has the same power as the Saintess…’ Viora pondered in awe.
All Priestesses of Purity like her were a product of the Saintess’ power.
Not only did they turn into something else, but they also inherited a fraction of the Saintess’ power.
It seemed Rex also had the power to transform others.
And for some unknown reason, the sight of this power plastered a fanatic smile across Viora’s lips.
Oblivious to what Viora was thinking, Rex took a step back and waited for the transformation to finish.
His eyes were glued onto the transforming Voidal Knights—meticulously searching for any difference between these ten’s transformation and the other, normal transformation. Until finally, the notification he was waiting for came.
<Congratulations for expanding the Silverstar Pack further!>
<All ten additional Voidal Knights have been registered as Outer Pack members!>
<Bulk Transformation achievement has been completed!>
<5x Silverstar Howl and 1 million gold!>
Rex closed his eyes for a second and basked in the sensation of power.
Almost all the skills he had gained were currently deactivated—he lacked the gold required to convert them all into the Spirit Realm. However, the effect that came from the System directly was still present. By transforming these ten Voidal Knights into Werewolves, he effectively expanded his pack, and with each new member, his strength grew.
Ten additional members meant a 50% increase in overall stats, and that’s a lot.
From the onlookers’ point of view, Rex’s aura rose out of nowhere, like he could do that at a whim.
He was getting stronger despite doing nothing.
Once the sensation receded, Rex opened his eyes again and looked down to his hand.
“Shame that I can only do this,” He shook his head. “Had it been in the Mortal Realm, we would’ve been a lot stronger fighting together with the Master Hunter Pack passive skill. But then again, I suppose I could supplement that with the Silverstar Howl.”
Rex lifted his gaze and inspected the ten, now-fully transformed, Voidal Knights.
From checking their stats, he found that all of them turned into the same race as Kraken.
All of them are an Ecliptic Devil Werewolf.
It seemed all Voidal Monsters would turn into this race if Rex tried to turn them.
Since he wasn’t going to keep them for long, he named them from one to ten depending on their power.
One is the strongest, and he’s also the only flying Voidal Knight among them.
Appearance-wise, One possessed a humanoid frame draped in dark blue feathers. His claws were razor-sharp and his legs earlier than ended with talons, now turned into hind legs and ended with claws. Two powerful, shadowy wings sprouted from his back, and where an eagle’s head once perched, now rested a skull twisted into a wolf-like shape.
However, it still bore the deadly curve of a raptor’s beak.
Now, who’s going to be the first one?
As soon as he thought of that, Four unleashed a guttural roar that shook the air hard.
He was once a monkey, but now, he is a Werewolf with very muscular arms and short legs.
Not only did the transformation turn him into a Werewolf, but it also healed all the grievous wounds that were inflicted upon him earlier by the heirs. Now, Four was back to full power, better, he was now brimming with power that he didn’t have before.
“Don’t attack anyone, I’m warning you,” Rex instructed nonchalantly.
Of course, Four didn’t heed Rex’s words at all.
Instead, it raised its arm, intending to slap Rex away and attack April, the one who captured him earlier.
Just as he swung his massive arm to hit Rex, he hit nothing but air.
In the blink of an eye, Rex appeared before Four, his hand latching onto Four’s face before slamming him into the ground with bone-shaking force. Not stopping at that, Rex unleashed a relentless barrage of punches, swinging wildly without pulling back.
