Chapter 1697: Worthy of Respect
Chapter 1697: Worthy of Respect
Rex’s sudden departure shocked them greatly.
It brooded this united intention in the hearts of the Silverstar Pack to show him their worth, to give Rex a pleasant surprise when he came back as their gratitude for being given this new life, and being a part of his future.
All of them wanted to prove themselves.
Rex has always been vying to be the strongest.
His parents are avenged now, and he found it in his heart to not forgive, but tolerate the Humans for the time being, thanks to Giana, and that might change Rex’s path slightly. But all of them knew that Rex had the capacity to be ruthless, even to those he held in his regard.
Leaving Rosie behind is the epitome of his cold-hearted ruthlessness.
Anyone who lagged behind will be abandoned.
It was the simple truth that all had come to terms with by now.
Rex might not be the same as back then, but that doesn’t give any assurance to the others.
And that pushed the others to keep up.
But more than that, all of them wanted to convince themselves that they were worthy of this power. Rex was simply confronting enemies that overshadowed them greatly, enemies that far surpassed their imaginations.
Most couldn’t provide meaningful help.
Not to mention, there’s Calidora.
None of them spoke aloud, but Calidora’s presence snapped them to reality.
It was hard to swallow. It was hard to admit. But Calidora got into their family with her own personal strength. She doesn’t rely on her family’s power. All she does is look at the current situation and make moves that she alone could make.
And now, even when she was a part of the Silverstar Pack, though indirectly, she never asked for power. She never relied on the power Rex could give, nor had she ever been someone who needed saving by him.
Regardless of how cheap and immoral her actions were, she got what she wanted.
She got it all with her own strength.
And that… that was a huge blow to their egos.
Adhara promised to negate one more problem from interrupting Evelyn’s plan by coming here.
She’s going to stall Sven, the supposed bastard son of the Werewolf Origin.
A feared being that sat equal to the royals, or even higher.
But she couldn’t help herself, ’I need to get stronger. I’m the Female Alpha, so I need to get way stronger.’
Swish!
Violet flames flickered within Adhara’s eyes as she looked at the monstrous Sven ahead.
Above his head burned the number eight—formed entirely of flames, and she alone could see it.
’I have been focusing solely on cracking the sequence for days, and there’s still eight more…?’ Adhara panted heavily—her body was already sore from pushing herself, and her inside was a mess—as blood trickled down the corner of her lips. ’Even Calidora’s spell is comprised of only five sequences.’
A couple of days ago, when she stalked Sven, she had the impulse to use the Break of Sequence ability.
Since she could copy Calidora’s spell, she reckoned that she could do the same to Sven.
One skill from Sven should be more than enough to elevate her power to a higher degree.
A skill that came from ancient times should be extremely powerful, especially when it comes from Sven.
Just as expected, Sven has one.
From the eye in her mind, she noticed Sven was constantly regulating his moonlight energy to maintain a skill that she didn’t know. It seemed to be the skill responsible for making Sven’s furs as hard as armor, and also resistant to any energy-based attack.
Against Sven, the only effective attack is a physical attack.
Regardless, Adhara wanted that skill.
However, to her surprise, the skill was composed of twenty sequences to replicate.
It was incredibly complex when Calidora’s teleportation spell was derived only from five sequences.
But that only made Adhara even more excited at the prospect of copying Sven’s skill.
For several days, Adhara played cat and mouse with Sven, with her being the mouse and Sven the cat. She couldn’t break the sequences down initially since Evelyn borrowed her strength for a moment, but after that ordeal, she had been focusing on breaking the sequences.
Now, despite her brutal effort, there are still eight sequences left to break.
Swoosh!
Adhara’s eyes widened as she leaped away in time.
In a sudden burst of speed, Sven roared and slammed onto the ground where she had stood seconds ago.
Crack!
Everything collapsed inward and shattered.
It was Adhara’s first time seeing the ground rippled like water before erupting outward—carving a huge crater that collapsed the area inward. Even though Adhara had dodged the blow, sharp stings prickled her body. ’He’s getting faster, and his strength… the shockwave alone could hurt me?’
Adhara somersaulted and landed on her feet.
But at the same time, Sven was already upon her.
Swoosh!
Sharp claws raked through the air violently as Adhara phased through the attack.
An overbearing growl shook the ground.
Adhara looked over her shoulder with gritted teeth and found Sven was glaring at her as he stabbed the claws to stop his momentum. And when he came to a halt, his body blurred, and the ground underneath cracked beneath his power.
On his spot earlier, the dimension warped almost like its presence was distorting reality.
Panic settled in.
Frantically, Adhara looked around to search for Sven, but all she saw was the distortion he had left behind.
She could smell his scent with her acute nose.
But every time she snapped her head to look, she was always a second too late.
Swoosh!
Adhara sensed a slash coming and phased herself again.
Growl!
Expecting her to do that, Sven unleashed a quick growl that created a soundwave that stung her brain.
And at that moment, she realized her body manifested again.
She was forced to manifest from having her focus disturbed.
Slash!
Blood gushed out from her chest as the claws managed to rake across her torso and threw her backward, stumbling a couple of steps. Before she could recover, another attack came, but this time, Adhara was quick enough to raise her arms.
Bam!
Despite blocking the attack, the force rippled through her entire body.
She tasted blood, but she swallowed it back down and held on, ’I’m the first one whom Rex turned into a Werewolf, the first one—who he accepted to help him, and yet everyone around me is catching up to me fast.’
Growl!
Bam!
“Huarghk!” Adhara spat out blood as claws penetrated through her abdomen fiercely.
Sven pierced through her defense and landed a vital blow before disappearing again.
He circled Adhara like she was his prey, wearing her down with primal precision and instincts.
Adhara fell to one knee and gasped for breath, coughing out mouthfuls of blood.
’I’m the only one Rex can talk to and be vulnerable with, I know that already. But that’s not enough. He needed more than comfort… he needed real help,’ Adhara snapped her gaze up when she sensed an attack coming, forcing her to raise her arms in defense. ’Someone who could truly grow with him.’
BAM!
Another slash raked her arms, and Sven didn’t stop there.
In retaliation, Adhara flared her aura—creating a pure silvery shockwave that brushed against Sven.
Her Anti-Werewolf bloodline was on full display.
Even so, her eyes widened when her aura—potent enough to burn a Werewolf from the inside out like molten silver—merely brushed off Sven’s armored fur. His eyes, too, remained intact, untouched by the power that should have made them burst like any ordinary Werewolf’s.
Instead, the blood vessels broke, making Sven look more menacing than before.
Her aura barely has an effect on him.
Grab!
Sven’s massive hand grabbed Adhara by her shoulder as he leaned forward with an open maw.
Brutally, he bit Adhara’s entire left arm, forcing her to scream in pain.
He then threw his face away, ripping the arm entirely before throwing her away like a ragdoll.
Just the taste of her flesh alone burned his mouth.
It seared with a scorching hiss of steam, but Sven didn’t care.
Instead, this only gladdened him.
Never has he ever tasted meat like Adhara’s, and this new sensation was welcomed.
Adhara let out a shrill cry of agony, her voice breaking under the weight of the excruciating pain.
But still, she forced herself to rise.
Her forehead pressed against the cold earth first, then her trembling arm followed, pushing her upright inch by inch. The shredded limb was knitting itself back together, but agonizingly slow—as the toll of pure exhaustion weighed down on her shoulders.
’Evelyn and Gistella wanted to conquer the Scarlet Banes Kingdom for Rex, a surprise that’ll certainly be well-accepted.’
’Kyran took it upon himself to guard the empire, to keep the pack and everything around it safe.’
’Everyone has chosen their own way to prove themselves, and so am I…’
Her breath shuddered, and she breathed through her mouth.
Exhaustion and excruciating pain were overwhelming her.
Not too far away from her, Sven stood towering.
His eyes were fixated on Adhara, and his entire body was silhouetted by the rumbling lava behind.
At this moment, he looked like a dominating shadow of death.
An entity that would scare even the hardest warrior around.
’Rex chose me to become the Female Alpha—for a reason,’ Adhara climbed to her feet again, slow and agonizing. Her body was shaking violently, muscles screaming for her to stop, and her heart pounding in her ears loudly, but she eventually managed it. ’Because he saw the potential in me to become stronger, to stand by his side.’
Upon blinking, Adhara’s hazy eyes saw Sven’s form transforming, contorting into a figure.
Someone that she recognized instantly—Rex.
Rex stood with his arms by his side, back straight like he could bear the entire world, and eyes looking down at her like a God looking at an ant. His presence alone made her knees weak, but she refused to kneel, refused to be a burden.
She refused to live within Rex’s shadow.
’So, believe in yourself like he believed in you.’
Adhara’s eyes burned with flames as he met Rex’s dominating gaze head-on.
She stared at him and accepted that she was unworthy.
She was still far behind.
But she wouldn’t give up. Never.
’All of my powers…’
Adhara stomped the ground to firmed—her footing, gaze boring into Sven’s eyes with no sign of giving up or fear. She flared her claws with readiness and clenched them with the kind of readiness a warrior has in a battle to the death.
’All of my instincts and senses…’
Her vision tunneled, focused on every twitch and small movement Sven was making.
It was the kind of awareness a predator would have when encountering prey.
’All my bundled-up intentions!’
Crack!
Sven raised his brows when the heat coming from Adhara climbed higher, stronger, to the point that the ground underneath her buckled and the air surrounding her form turned hazy as if her emotions alone were hot enough to burn the air.
For the first time since he awakened, he could feel his instincts being stimulated.
That the creature before him was not a prey, but a predator, exactly like he had been ever since he was born.
And for once, the corner of Sven’s lips tugged into a small smirk.
Most Werewolves would’ve collapsed by now—days of relentless battle had slowed their regeneration to a crawl—barely enough to mend a limb within a minute. Yet Adhara still stood, unyielding, defiance burning where strength should have failed.
Such a show of determination brought a warm sensation through Sven’s chest.
Not relief or excitement, but something closer to respect.
“In this moment… I’ll pour everything into this fight!”
Crack!
Adhara unleashed a roar and lunged forward with a flaming body, activating her Gladiator Form.
She was determined to prove herself.
Likewise, Sven responded with the same and galloped forward like a beast.
Responding with the same fervor and heat is the only way someone respects another predator.
And as the two collided, a devastating shockwave exploded—rending everything in sight.
BOOM!
