Lady Ravyn wanted to answer, but she couldn’t.

She was looking at Rex, who was sitting alone inside the pavilion.

Even though he looked normal, Lady Ravyn could feel it—the person sitting there wasn’t anything less than a monster. His face was dashing, his clothes were regal and clean, his form was that of an ordinary person, but he was undoubtedly a monster.

Just the expression he was wearing alone, icy cold, was scaring her.

Lady Ravyn lowered her gaze, unable to maintain eye contact.

“It’s so late in the night, Lady Ravyn,” Rex continued, smiling as he tilted his head a little. “Even inside the bubble, even inside your own territory, don’t you know that the night is where more danger lurks? It’s unwise to wander around this late.”

’Is he threatening me? How did he know my name? Did he anticipate this?’

A lot of questions appeared in Lady Ravyn’s mind.

She came out of nowhere without anyone knowing other than the group, but Rex didn’t seem to be even mildly surprised by her sudden visit. In fact, he seemed prepared and collected—almost like he already knew that she was coming.

Gritting her teeth, she braced herself and approached.

Lady Ravyn stopped before the table and bowed politely.

“I… I apologize for disturbing you this late in the night,” She said with a shaky voice. “But it’ll be rude of me, as the host, not to properly greet you. I know it’s inappropriate to visit you this late, but I heard the princess isn’t staying for long.”

“It’s fine, I’m happy that you came.” Rex raised a hand and gestured. “Please, sit.”

Hesitantly, Lady Ravyn sat down and offered a polite smile.

“Did you come alone?” Rex suddenly asked.

He was pouring a drink into his own cup; his eyes focused on the water from the kettle.

Not expecting the question, Lady Ravyn paused for a second, trying to see whether Rex already knew that she wasn’t alone or not. But his face gave nothing away, “Yes… My brothers and sisters found it too impolite to visit you tonight, so I came alone.”

“I see…” Rex nodded. “Then I must say, you really are daring.”

“Are you one of her people?”

“I’m sorry?”

“I’m asking, are you one of the people who looked up to her? Princess Davina.”

“Naturally,” Lady Ravyn nodded as she raised her cup—when she saw Rex heading over to pour her a drink. “Everyone, noblewomen in particular, looked up to Princess Davina. She’s our role model. Being able to reach the Divine Spirit rank at such a young age is incredible. She’s destined to stand at the top of the world.”

“Then you must be disappointed to hear her engagement,” Rex replied as he sat back down.

Once again, the question sent Lady Ravyn’s mind reeling.

For some reason, every time Rex asked something, it was almost like he was subtly hinting at her that he knew exactly—what she was doing by coming here. And due to that, she needed to really think about her answers.

“As long as it’s the princess’ choice, then I’m happy for her.” Lady Ravyn answered.

It was the best answer she could think of, with a subtle hint of her boundary.

She’s going to accept him as a fiancé, but that’s if Princess Davina chose him for real, not pressured.

“Of course, it’s her choice. Before coming here, she even told me about Cardoc Mirza, and how people who don’t like her being engaged might try to take me out using the excuse of my origin,” Rex sighed, almost as if he was dreading Princess Davina’s overconcern. “She wanted to place guards near me, and even countermeasures in case of an attack, but I refused them all.”

“I like my peace,” Rex glanced to the sides with a smile.

“But I do understand why she was concerned since I’m not at one hundred percent right now,” He raised his left arm, showing Lady Ravyn that it was still severed, and along his arms were scratches that also refused to be healed. “I’m still recovering from the mission, but who’s stupid enough to attack me inside this bubble?”

Lady Ravyn blinked as she listened to what Rex had to say.

And then, she sucked in a cold breath.

’He… Did he tell me everything that I wanted to know?’ She thought in surprise.

Just like the plan, she would be coming here to check whether Rex’s strength was as expected, whether there was any trap, and whether he was really wounded. She thought it was going to be hard to probe the information from him.

Who would’ve thought he decided to make everything clear on her own?

Lady Ravyn’s eyes widened slightly.

She didn’t dare glance to the side lest Rex would know what was going on, but she could feel that the others were encroaching nearby. All of them were suppressing their auras and only exposing themselves to Lady Ravyn.

All of them are waiting for her signal to attack.

“Of course, Lord Rex… Only a fool would attack you. But do—”

“Then are you admitting that you’re a fool?”

“Huh…?”

Lady Ravyn blinked her eyes a couple of times as she stared at Rex for a good moment.

It was then her mind clicked.

Rex had already realized what she came here to do, along with the approaching group.

“I’m sure you knew that I’m the person who made sure the mission succeeded,” Rex sipped on his drink and then placed it down on the table—with a light thud. “And even knowing that fact, you still viewed me lowly because I’m from the Mortal Realm? I didn’t expect much, but this…?”

Rex’s crimson eyes glowed as he stared at the woman across from him.

His gaze was neutral, but there was a hint of pity in it.

“I must say, Lady Ravyn…” Rex leaned back on his chair. “You’re quite a disappointment.”

“You lowly insect!”

Brak!!

Lady Ravyn flipped the table and immediately summoned her Soul Artifact, a gleaming sword of light.

Not even hesitating at all, wanting to do nothing more than to kill this arrogant man who thinks he’s on par with Princess Davina, she pounced forward. As the table covered Rex’s vision, she swung down hard, aiming to split the table and him into two.

Clang!

Both of her eyes widened when her Soul Artifact was caught between Rex’s fingers.

She put her strength into that swing, but it was stopped easily.

“My power doesn’t need questioning, and there are no traps and guards around me because I don’t need them,” Rex said as his fangs elongated, and his eyes glistened with malice. “I thought you sought highly of Princess Davina, yet you think her chosen fiancé is weak?”

“Attack him, now!!” Lady Ravyn shouted as five figures appeared out of nowhere.

All of them appeared above him and already drew their weapons.

Rex was surrounded from all sides, but before any of their weapons could touch him, he disappeared.

“Where did he go?!”

“How can he disappear like that? I’ve paid close attention to his life energy, but there were no waves!”

“I’m not in the mood to fight…”

Rex’s voice echoed, stunning the entire group.

Hearing this, Lady Ravyn, along with the others, turned to look behind them.

Standing tall with his back against them was Rex; he was looking over his shoulder at them.

“I’m currently in the process of letting my body heal, so any fighting is not favorable, but…” Rex turned around to face them again, baring his fangs as he activated a portion of his Werewolf form to make him look more menacing. “If I’m being attacked, I will retaliate.”

“Don’t listen to him, attack! For the princess!” Lady Ravyn instructed again.

Swiftly, two assassins charged at Rex.

One was holding chakrams while the other wore a vambrace that pulsed power into her body.

As the two pounced, Rex’s body blurred again.

In the blink of an eye, the sound of something shattering echoed across the pavilion.

Rex destroyed the vambrace with a slap and caught the chakram mid-swing with his bare hand.

“Kahhk!”

Almost instantly, the assassin who had her chakram destroyed coughed a mouthful of blood and fell to her knees—as that vambrace was her Soul Artifact. Having it destroyed would mean being crippled for at least a month or maybe more.

On the side, the other assassin looked at Rex as if she were looking at a monster.

And with a squeeze, he crushed the chakram too.

Just like that, the other assassin helplessly fell back to the ground.

Rex defeated these two assassins easily while still fixing his gaze on Lady Ravyn.

It should’ve been nothing more than a foolish show to intimidate, as Rex should focus on the fight, no matter how easy it was, but this stunt made Lady Ravyn’s blood run cold. Being stared at by Rex like this made her feel weaker by the second.

Like she was being stared at by a beast that she couldn’t possibly defeat.

Rex then grabbed one assassin by her nape and threw her to the wall, while he kicked the other one.

He showed no mercy to either of them.

“Ravyn, this is bad…” Isabella whispered as she took a step back. “He didn’t even use his power—and he defeated both of them so easily. I don’t think he’s a Master Immortal Spirit anymore; he had already become an Eternal Spirit. Let’s run!”

Even so, Lady Ravyn stayed rooted.

She was unwilling to run.

Ignoring Lady Ravyn’s determination, Isabella turned around to leap off the pavilion.

It was the same for the remaining assassins, as they had no chance to defeat Rex, even in his state.

But as they made the leap, their bodies slammed against something hard.

All three of them fell to the floor, eyes widened as they stared at the invisible barrier that blocked them from leaving. Isabella, in particular, realized instantly that they were really out of their leagues, “Law… He has the power of law. Not a minor one, too…”

“None of you can leave without my permission,” Rex whispered, voice low and cold. “You came to me uninvited—so you won’t depart by your own will. Don’t worry, I promised your precious idol I wouldn’t be too rough, so I’ll only break a few bones. After this, make sure you thank her properly…”

Swish!

Rex blitzed past Lady Ravyn and went straight to the other assassins.

He overpowered them.

Break their bones.

Showed no mercy.

And then threw them to the side after he was done, leaving them whimpering and wailing in pain.

Rex then turned around, fixating on Lady Ravyn, who remained rooted in her spot throughout this ordeal.

“You came here to kill me because of what—I don’t deserve Princess Davina?” Rex asked with a scoff, finding her motive incredulously shallow. “Did you even ask her about this? Or did you only go—solely by your guts?”

“Is that really how her followers should act?” Rex asked, raising a brow.

Hearing this, Lady Ravyn bit her lower lip.

She still didn’t want to believe that someone from the Mortal Realm was Princess Davina’s fated one.

But in case she was acting too emotionally, she wanted to be convinced.

“Then prove it to me,” Lady Ravyn said, pivoting her body around to face Rex. “Convince me that I’m the one who’s at the wrong. Show me a glimpse of your full power, and I’ll take all the blame for this attempt. I’ll even accept any punishment you deem fit.”

Rex tilted his head.

He could see it in Lady Ravyn’s eyes that she wanted to be wrong.

Displaying clearly that she was in the wrong would help her mind be at ease.

Of course, Rex didn’t need to do it.

But I guess I promised not to be so rough on them.

Slowly, Rex raised his hand as he summoned the Red Dawn of Kaiser again.

Lady Ravyn’s eyes sparkled at the sight of the reddish power that oozed and swirled around Rex’s hand, and soon, what emerged from it was something that made her suck in a cold breath. It was a beautiful and domineering sphere.

One that was beyond anything she could ever imagine.

“An Original Echo…”
