Chapter 1905: I, Enoch, Was Born
Enoch on his throne unexpectedly sighed as if he was tired, “I understand you will not believe me, that everything I say to you would be viewed through the lens of distrust, and you would be foolish not to, but I understand that if I want trust, I will have to give you more, else you will never cooperate in the ways I intend. So…” he clapped his hand loudly, “Tell me what you believe to be my origins? More than anything, I see that question burning in your heart, and I am here to put that answer to rest. And ye, knowing the truth of my origins, would serve me better than you think, because it would enlighten you on the true structure of existence; perhaps, it would be enough for you to change sides.”
Rowan was quiet, and instead of immediately replying, he lay his head back on his wooden throne and closed his eyes, allowing the seventeenth level of the Nameless Techniques that had been brewing inside his consciousness to erupt, slowly filling his body and mind with strength as he rapidly moved towards the completion of this technique.
If he was going to be matching wits with a being like Enoch, then Rowan could not do so with a blurry consciousness, and Enoch also closed his eyes and waited for Rowan’s reply, and so eighty thousand years went by in silence. For the two here, this amount of time could be as brief as the blink of an eye.
Within this time period, Rowan had not completed the current level of the Nameless techniques, but he had pushed through twenty percent, giving his mind and body the strength they desperately needed. At this level, operating the techniques became nearly effortless, and like a perpetual motion machine, they would continue running in the background while he could focus on the main challenge before him, Enoch.
As Rowan opened his eyes, so also did Enoch, and Rowan began to answer the question that was directed to him all these years ago,
“You are right, Enoch, one of the most significant questions in my mind is about your origins. Unlike the Primordials, you don’t seem to fit in the equation, and if not for my overly analytic nature, your presence would have easily slipped past my radar. I am sure that many Primordial beings throughout their life did not know about you, and yet, you seemed to be deeply tied to the fate of all existence, and you are the only wielder of End. All of these traits combined, but the multiple I undoubtedly do not know about make it almost impossible for me to predict your origins, because I am lacking many crucial information about you.”
Enoch smiled, “That is not the entire truth. I know there is one option you have considered above all else, someone like you, even in indecision, would rather pick a path than remain without any answer. I am curious to know what you think I am.”
Raising his hand, Rowan began to point out the two most likely options that Enoch could be, “You are either a Primordial or a Reality, but certain traits that I observed from you mean that it is not likely. If the Primordials are born from your flesh, but were never meant to be regarded as Primordials, simply storehouses for power, it means your foundation is as great as existence itself. So, no matter how insane it sounds to me at this point, I believe that you are the mind of Limbo, this infinite space where everything floats.”
Enoch froze, and for a while, he did not move an inch. Then he shook his head, “That is a perfect answer, and it shows the depths of your mind that you were able to come up with it, but you are not entirely correct, nor are you wrong either. I have a connection with Limbo, but it is not one where I am its mind… Tell me, Rowan, what do you know about creation?”
“There are many ways to answer that question,” Rowan responded.
“Answer it like a Creator who had seen what existence has to offer. Tell me your answer from your unique perspective. You started life in many of your iterations as a mortal, yes, then use that and walk upwards, maybe you may discover something you have missed.”
Rowan cocked his head to the side. The thought practice stated by Enoch was interesting, and he saw no reason not to follow along with it.
“Well, in comparison to my entire lifespan, I have never been a mortal for an extended period of time, and I know that for us mortals, creation was not something we understood; our minds were too small and the reaches of our senses too fragile, but we had something in abundance, and that was our imagination. Trapped in a small planet inside the endless vastness of the universe, we dreamed of gods with limitless life who could see all that creation had to offer, and then as a god, the universe was no longer enough when we know there are many universes outside our own with rules that were different from everything we know and recognize, this pushes us to the path of the higher dimension, and then the mysteries only grows deeper.”
Rowan paused, as the memories of his life from the moment he stepped outside his universe and saw the path to the higher dimension, and his journey up to this moment,
“We discover the dimensions of Space, Time, Memory, Fate, Destiny, and then for the few who could reach for the peak, they would find Origin… but we would discover Limbo, and know that there were still more, perhaps reaching the peak was just the beginning, the next step is to go to the depths, to dig out the foundations that governed everything… to find End.”
Enoch eyes were closed throughout Rowan’s speech as if he was seeing the sights being described by Rowan, and at their present level with the control over the higher dimensions, this was not far from the truth, and so when Enoch began to speak, the intents behind his words were so monumental and overwhelming that Rowan nearly collapsed, but he would rather die than lose the opportuinity to know the truth that no one else would be able to tell him,
“Before Limbo, there was life…. The Firsts existed, but they were called Luminous.”
Rowan felt his heart begin to race, and the invisible flame in his chest began to rotate slowly. He had to place more of his consciousness power into his body to ensure they were fully contained.
“They were born from the first photon that ever dared to exist, and they never died. Time was a still pond to them; nothing rippled it. Their cities were lattices of pure Lumina. The closest understanding of Lumina is to think of it as Light, the brightest light that could ever exist. This light folded into crystal, into towers, into rivers that flowed upward. Every dawn was identical to the one before it. Every thought had already been thought a trillion times. Perfection had calcified into prison.
I, Enoch, was born in the heart of the Eternal Spire during the 999,999,999,999,999,999th identical sunrise.”
