Chapter 811: The Grand Opening Celebration Week 7
The man was suspicious, but only to Damian’s senses. He could stop him, but that wouldn’t be fair. Especially when the guy was an outsider, the emperor would be salty if he made a biased decision against his countryman.
Not that the guy had broken any rules or anything by now. He was an imposter, about that Damian was sure. But forcing someone to show their status just because he was winning wouldn’t be good for the image of Sanctum.
“Keep an eye on him, watch his every action – inform me if he does anything suspicious or out of the ordinary at all,” Damian ordered.
“Yes, Lord Keeper.” The team of agents replied.
Damian turned around and left the hidden path that was placed into the colosseum for the secure entry and exit of the VIP guests. The tournament was still ongoing, with the first rankers fighting tooth and nail to win the prizes or secure their entry in the dungeon for tomorrow. Only the top twenty were going to be allowed to enter.
Tomorrow was the demonstration of how dungeon entry and things would work. It will also be the first time in the world for the outside world to see what happens inside the dungeon.
This one was a brain teaser, but Damian successfully created it.
A runic device to capture light that only Mindseer could operate with her light illusions and projection skill.
In a simple method, how it worked: to record a video, Damian had to capture the light. After a lot of experiments with different types of crystals obtained from the dungeons, the best one had turned out to be the light mana stones themselves.
He had to use modified thin air blades mixed with liquid mana full of light element to slice the yellow mana stones into thin slices of film, without blowing them up, so that the Mindseer could push her projection directly into them.
These slices could record three minutes each. Damian had created a projector-like Sacrium box that could keep cutting the mana stones into thin slices, place them in a position Mindseer could record things into, and then store them in a spatial storage every three minutes.
The replacement of the slices took a few seconds, so there would be cuts in the footage when displayed by Mindseer through her light projection.
It wasn’t perfect; it couldn’t be edited, it needed liquid mana, and the small machine was very delicate. Damian had put many supporting spells, but the main method of recording had to be improved for any significant change in quality. The quality of the video itself was only as good as the mana stones used; they had picked the best ones that cost a lot, still, it was like watching a 720p video on a theater screen.
Plus, it had no sound. Just video. And Mindseer would have to accompany every team that entered the dungeon to record.
Still, after all that, it was one of the best things they had made. Finally, they had a method to see inside the dungeon and record the footage. Damian really wanted to make a runic machine that could record without Mindseer’s help, but for now, it was simply not possible.
Maybe if they had a dedicated spell for that. That could be one of the first spells Vidalia’s team could research. He would have to talk with her.
By the time he returned to the VIP section, only Einar, Sam, Torvin, Land-breaker, and Ilvanya had remained. From the time each match was taking, the final match would only be played after 9-10 pm. They would also have to give the contestants some time to rest before doing the last five matches.
Damian took his seat; the fact that he could not sense that manaless imposter was a first for him, making him feel slightly uncomfortable. He could sense the four guys following behind him, so at least he wasn’t totally blind.
“What did you mean earlier by worlds beyond our sky?” Ilvanya asked as another match started between a spellsword and a mage.
Damian looked towards her, “What?”
“Don’t act so surprised now. The Faerunian boy’s story has not gone unnoticed by the world. In his story, he specifically mentioned travelling from one world to another, both of which had different skies. And today you mentioned your aim to reach worlds beyond our sky.” Ilvanya said.
Damian sighed. “What do you think of the night sky?” He asked back.
Explaining the concept of planets and the solar system to a person was not as simple as one might expect.
“It’s filled with distant stars.” Ilvanya replied, “Are you suggesting all those are different worlds?”
“That can’t be..” Sam commented from the side.
“No one knows what they are for sure..” Land-breaker added.
“Worlds above us?” Damian heard Torvin murmur to himself from the side.
“Worlds don’t shine at night; they are not a source of light.” Ilvanya stated.
“Yes,” Damian agreed. “But there is something else that is. Always giving us light.”
“Sun?” Torvin guessed.
Damian nodded, smiling at the guy.
“Our world, which I call Earth-7, is a sphere. Land-breaker can confirm. And if you fly high enough, you can see it for yourself. It rotates on its axes while also circling around the Sun. Each rotation on its axes is one day complete. Half of which is day and half a night when we are facing the other side, being a sphere. A complete circle around the Sun is one year.”
Land-breaker nodded.
“Each sun has several of these spherical worlds like ours circling around it. I have no idea how many of our neighbouring planets there are in our solar system. Each spherical world is called a planet, and the system of the Sun and the planets rotating around it combined is called a solar system.”
“I know that word; I have seen the status use it,” Land-breaker confirmed.
“I have read something similar from my ancestors’ records as well,” Ilvanya confirmed.
