Chapter 814: The Grand Opening Celebration Week 10

Evrin launched the black-fire birds’ spell seconds after the four intruders showed up. A couple of three-meter birds of fire flew straight towards the four; one targeting the human among them, and another went for the massive gorilla beastmen.

Before the birds were even halfway through, a bunny girl turned her running into a giant jump using the side wall and launched herself straight towards Evrin without losing even a little of her momentum.

Evrin stepped back, defending herself against the bunny girl’s short sword using her dagger. The strength packed into such a thin girl almost forced Evrin to step back.

The third beastman, a grey wolf-man, pulled out two short swords and was rushing straight towards Evrin. If she did not move, her long life would just last for a minute. But the Bunny-girl also knew that.

While trying to push the short sword against Evrin’s dagger with her full strength, the bunny girl’s left hand was slowly charging up with a dark pink aura. A beastmen pugilist was nothing new, but that did not make fighting them any easier.

She didn’t have to do this. The sacrium bracelet on her wrist could be activated at any second, and it would open a waygate straight to Drona. She could easily get away, but that was not what Evrin wanted to do.

’I am a sanctum head. If I can’t even protect the Sanctum building, how could I protect the whole Sanctuary?’

It was childish, she knew. Her existence wasn’t entirely based on her strength, but strength was a big part of it. Unlike the other Sanctum heads, she was not overwhelmingly strong. Neither was she ever called talented. Her natural age was above sixty; Damian, Sam, and others were not even fully thirty yet and had reached transcendent rank.

She had long since stopped comparing herself to them. But there was still something called the pride of being a member of the high table.

Evrin activated her second spell, covering half the hallway into a spiky death trap. Dark wooden spikes coming out of the floor caught the wolf-man, suddenly off guard. His speed had become his biggest enemy, earning him a giant dark spike coming straight through his left leg, going so far up to reach his thigh.

The screams of the injured beastmen filled the hallways as the big gorilla-man and human spellsword started actively moving and jumping with all their strength to avoid the spikes coming their way. The fire birds were still right behind them, though, despite the spellsword’s great efforts to use water and wind spells.

Evrin gestured for the fire-birds to switch the targets. The dark spikes were still wood. Burning the hallway wasn’t a great idea, but with the gorilla man’s big physique and the spellsword’s lack of water spells, it should buy her a little time.

Before Evrin could turn back after signaling the fire-birds, the powerful punch from the pugilist bunny girl connected to her side, doing some serious relocation of her internal organs.

Evrin slammed into the metal wall. Her dagger had slipped from her hand when the punch landed. Blood dripping out of the corners of her mouth. With blurred vision, she could see the annoyingly fast bunny girl following right behind her.

Evrin did not hurry at all and simply pulled out a pouch hanging from her waist, hidden inside her clothes. It was full of her liquid mana. Using three mana threads, she connected the liquid mana to her sacrium bracelet in less than three seconds and powered the wormhole spell at exactly the power she needed.

The bunny girl, running at her full strength, did not expect anything to stop her assault other than Evrin’s weak hands, so taking a few steps, she jumped with her right leg stretched towards the fallen figure of Evrin to deliver a devastating flying kick.

“Take this bitch! Sap-licker!” The bunny girl shouted.

But a wormhole opened exactly beneath her, not a small one either, the end point of which was at the far end of the long hallway.

The small figure of the bunny girl had her speed enhanced by her beastman special physique and her pugilist aura. The kick held a lot of power considering her second-ranker status. All of which became the instruments of her own doom as she crashed into a solid Blazur metal wall from the other end of the wormhole.

The impact was so forceful that it bent the metal wall slightly. But that was the only damage to the wall. The bunny girl, on the other hand, had broken her leg completely with bones sticking out.

Her blood-curdling screams added to the screams of the wolf-man.

Seeing their ally’s miserable status, the gorilla-man stopped caring about the fire, filled with rage, and charged straight towards Evrin. Bits of fire had caught onto his clothes, but the red of rage in his eyes was more intense than those red flames.

“Zhinshi!” He screamed. “This is your last day, Rotborn!”

Evrin had figured out why she was being attacked. The slurs were famous among the rebel beastmen gangs, actively causing mayhem all around the mainland. Eldoris Nobles had been facing this problem for years now. It wasn’t her first time facing some assassins who believed in the grand purpose of Shadow Reaver.

They were exactly the reason why life as a beastman was not an easy one, in both Eldoris and Sanctuary. In the sanctuary, however, things were changing since Damian changed the internal political system, and the burden of power in all sanctuary regions had shifted to capable shoulders.

Evrin pulled out a runic crown and a small hand-held runic weapon Damian had given her. It was supposed to work like the hand cannons the guy had made in Pigmen war. But this one was much more compact and could be held in a single hand without any effort.

It was just a limited runic item Damian had made and then deemed too dangerous for the army’s use. Evrin had convinced him to at least give it to her for safety reasons. It was called ’A Runic Gun’.

Evrin raised her hand, the barrel of the weapon filled with runic engravings glowed with blue light. The giant gorilla man was just not stopping at all.

Evrin sighed and pulled the trigger.

A flash of light filled the hallway, a sharp sound unapologetically mixing in with the screams of beastmen. The blue laser was much more intense and powerful than the hand-cannons. That bastard had outdone himself once again.

Evrin shot five times, one after another. Three shots to the gorilla-man’s legs, incapacitating him in seconds, and two to the screaming human spellsword that was burning in the fire uncontrollably after being ganged up on by two of her firebirds.

Seconds later, a waygate connected opened beside her, Einar and Sam rushing out of it to find Evrin’s bloody figure sitting down with her back against the hallway wall.
