Chapter 1156: 202: Stay in the Abyss?
Chapter 1156: Chapter 202: Stay in the Abyss?
School.
On the spacious school playground, many children were playing around, while an elder was cleaning.
This elder had a relatively short stature and a somewhat stooped posture, appearing quite old, as he silently went about his tasks.
At this moment, a white-clad man approached, and the elder slightly raised his head, smiling and nodding at the young man.
“Elder, are you new here?” the white-clad man asked with a smile.
“Been here a few days,” the elder replied.
The white-clad man nodded: “A lot of newcomers lately. You’re not young, take care of your health.”
“I know, I know,” the elder nodded, as the white-clad youth walked away. The elder glanced at his retreating figure before continuing with his cleaning.
Meanwhile, outside the school, a young man approached. When he saw the elder cleaning, he paused momentarily, but his gaze quickly shifted away, though his heart remained unsettled.
The young man was Xu Mo. After Montis threatened him, he did not come here immediately but waited a few days.
More forces had arrived in this area with the protection of the Mystic God Temple, reducing the danger significantly. He wouldn’t risk his life for a stranger.
Coming here was largely driven by his desire to uncover certain mysteries.
Xu Mo entered the familiar classroom, where a class was in session. He quietly sat at the back without making a sound.
Montis was there too, sitting in front of Xu Mo; he turned his head to glance at Xu Mo.
It was his first time seeing Xu Mo, but he instantly recognized him as the one controlling Moluo.
However, Montis didn’t rush things; he continued listening and even taking notes. This seemed ironic, but it demonstrated the authority of the mysterious white-clad man. Montis generally detested studying, yet he complied with a word from the white-clad man.
After the class, many students curiously eyed Xu Mo.
“This one looks better,” one child remarked about Xu Mo. Many newcomers were fierce-looking, but Xu Mo appeared the best.
“Indeed,” a nearby girl, resting her chin on her hand, said while inspecting Xu Mo’s face, her behavior somewhat amusing.
“What’s your name?” a boy directly asked.
“Xu Mo,” Xu Mo replied with a smile.
“Are you with them? Why do you look different?” The boy asked while comparing Xu Mo to Montis and others.
Xu Mo chuckled and shook his head.
“Shava.” Xu Mo looked towards a girl observing him from not far away. Shava was examining him, as Xu Mo wore the same Battle Armor from that day without the helmet, revealing his face.
Shava found him familiar yet dared not confirm.
“Brother, you are…” Shava timidly addressed Xu Mo.
“What? You don’t recognize me? I’m friends with Uncle Wu Lai and Asaka,” Xu Mo warmly said. Now that he was exposed, there was nothing to hide; the truth was evident to all.
Shava’s face lit up with a smile upon hearing Xu Mo’s words and she approached him: “Why haven’t Uncle and Aunt Asaka come?”
“They’re busy with something,” Xu Mo gently patted Shava’s head, feeling relieved seeing Shava well.
It seemed Montis only made threats without real intentions to harm Shava.
“Go play now,” Xu Mo smiled, and Shava nodded before leaving with the other children.
“I didn’t expect you to actually come,” Montis commented, somewhat surprised, acknowledging Xu Mo wasn’t cowardly.
“Now that you’ve met the real me, any instructions?” Xu Mo asked.
Montis turned, fixing his eyes on Xu Mo, his gaze revealing a trace of murderous intent. Xu Mo felt Montis’s genuine killing intent. Despite their interactions, it was under Moluo’s guise.
They were inherently adversaries; Xu Mo was an outsider, Montis part of the Abyss Corps, and Xu Mo killed Montis’s subordinates while deceiving him. It was natural for Montis to want to kill him.
Yet Montis didn’t act; he stared at Xu Mo for a moment before rising to leave.
“Stay here,” Montis coldly commanded, as if ordering.
Xu Mo frowned, puzzled by Montis’s intent; no explanation, no action, why leave him here?
Xu Mo found himself inexplicably staying at the school, only now as himself instead of Moluo, unable to discern Montis’s intention.
Soon enough, Xu Mo grew familiar with the students, having known them before, making it easy to blend in, including with the teaching staff.
One day, after class, Xu Mo approached the middle-aged teacher.
“Sir,” Xu Mo called.
“Xu Mo,” the middle-aged teacher answered, asking, “What can I do for you?”
“Sir, are you with the Abyss People?” Xu Mo asked, probing now that he was present in truth with no reservations.
“No,” the middle-aged teacher shook his head.
Xu Mo was somewhat surprised by the answer; the other party straightforwardly told him no.
“As far as I know, getting to the Abyss isn’t easy, so it seems you’re not an ordinary person,” Xu Mo said.
“And you?” the other party retorted.
“Neither am I,” Xu Mo replied.
“In that case, you’re not ordinary either?” The middle-aged man said, smiling.
“Since you’re not one of the Abyss People, why are you teaching in the Abyss? The Abyss Corps has always wanted to invade the outside world, and it seems you don’t object?” Xu Mo said.
“The environment of the Abyss is harsh, and they want to change their destiny, which isn’t something my will can decide. Whether I oppose it or not, it’s of no real significance,” the middle-aged man said with a smile. “Moreover, I can’t deprive the Abyss of their yearning for light just because of my thoughts. The children here might never see ‘light’ in their lifetime.”
“So you teach them order, hoping they’ll be self-restrained if they ever go out?” Xu Mo asked.
“Do you think there’s still order in the various Star Domains of the current Universe?” The middle-aged man asked.
Xu Mo thought of the wars between the Republic and the Empire, and the chaos everywhere; order was already on the verge of collapse.
In contrast, the Abyss seemed more united; at least under the control of the Abyss Corps, there wouldn’t be any wars or large-scale deaths of ordinary people.
“I’m merely telling them that without order, even if they go out, they can’t get far, and naturally, they can’t change the Abyss’s destiny,” the middle-aged man said.
“It’s just that, with your strength alone, it might still be somewhat insufficient, and relying solely on this school might not change anything,” Xu Mo said.
“Don’t underestimate the power of time,” the middle-aged man said. “As long as there’s enlightenment, time will show a snowball effect—the larger it rolls, the bigger it gets. The development of human civilization wasn’t a continuously stable process but an explosive development at certain stages, reaching a peak, then stagnating, weakening, destroying, and starting anew, repeating endlessly.”
Xu Mo was somewhat thoughtful, becoming more suspicious of the other party’s identity.
Could it really be Gaia?
At this moment, Xu Mo wanted to use spiritual power to probe around but restrained the thought. If it wasn’t Gaia, this would be pointless; if it was Gaia, this would mean offending Gaia.
“What are you talking about?”
A voice came, followed by a white-clothed man walking toward them.
“Just chatting casually,” the teacher replied with a smile.
The white-clothed man nodded slightly and extended his hand to Xu Mo: “Lin Shou.”
Xu Mo looked at the outstretched hand and then reached out to shake it, saying, “Xu Mo.”
Even at such a close distance, he still couldn’t sense any fluctuations of energy aura; the white-clothed man seemed like an ordinary person, gentle and graceful, quite different from an ‘Abyss’ leader. Just by looking at his appearance and temperament, one wouldn’t associate him with the Abyss King.
But who else besides the Abyss King could have the twelve War Generals at his command?
“How long have you been in the Abyss?” Lin Shou asked Xu Mo.
Xu Mo was taken aback, then replied, “For some time now.”
“From the Mystic God Temple in the O’Brian Republic?” Lin Shou asked again.
“…” Xu Mo felt as though he had no secrets in front of the other party.
“Yes,” Xu Mo replied.
“I’ve heard a bit; it’s a Cultivation Holy Land in the O’Brian Republic.” The white-clothed man nodded slightly. “Now that the Mystic God Temple is here, it seems all the Universe factions needed have arrived.”
“What do you think of the Abyss?” Lin Shou asked Xu Mo, his attitude always pleasant, and smiling. Xu Mo felt no threat, but he understood that before this person, his life could be at risk at any moment.
“It’s somewhat different from what I imagined,” Xu Mo said.
“How is it different?” Lin Shou asked with a smile.
“Previously, from the data, the Abyss seemed full of violence and slaughter. The Abyss Corps was established by exiled prisoners from the Empire; I thought they were all brutal and murderous individuals.” Xu Mo looked at the white-clothed man and asked.
“That’s not inaccurate,” Lin Shou replied. “Without slaughter and violence, how could the Abyss Corps be established, ruling this Star Domain of the Abyss? How could they establish order and walk out of the Abyss?”
“You were raised in an era of civilization; you’re still a bit too kind. Do you know that in such times, kindness comes at the cost of life?”
Xu Mo knew Lin Shou was referring to Wu Lai and Asaka.
Some things indeed shouldn’t be done. But, of course, Wu Lai, Asaka, and the others didn’t know this was the lair of the Abyss and only thought it was a regular school.
Seeing Xu Mo silent, Lin Shou continued, “However, the Abyss also needs different types of people. Why don’t you stay here in the future? Those guys still lack education.”
“…”
Xu Mo’s gaze was peculiar; Lin Shou wanted him to stay in the Abyss?
Moreover, the other’s tone didn’t seem like a joke, nor like he was seeking his opinion.
It sounded more like a command.
So, would the other party forcibly keep him here?
“Sir, I think having him as your assistant would be quite good,” Lin Shou said to the middle-aged teacher, disregarding Xu Mo’s own opinion.
