Chapter 1641 - 1634: Marriage Proposal
Chapter 1641 -1634: Marriage Proposal
Even though Su Yingxue had fallen and injured herself, her heart felt sweet. “I’m fine. Rest early tonight. Just leave the medicine for me and go.”
Zhilan replied with a “Yes,” then stepped out and closed the door for Su Yingxue.
On one foot, Su Yingxue hopped over to the soft couch by the window. Leaning against the windowsill, she gazed out at the night sky, imagining how wonderful it would be if Chu Yihan suddenly descended from the heavens.
After all, he had come several times before.
“Hoo~”
A gentle breeze swept through, and a purple-gold python robe fell right in front of her, blocking her view of the sky perfectly.
Su Yingxue’s mouth opened into a perfect “O.” “Ninth Prince!?”
He really came!
Chu Yihan covered her mouth, leapt into the room, and closed the window behind him.
“If you shout any louder, the entire Marquis’s Manor will know that I’m here,” Chu Yihan said, his face cold, his gaze landing on her foot.
She was reclining on the soft couch in her nightwear, her delicate feet exposed to the air. In an instant, he caught sight of her fair, jade-like feet.
One of them was swollen and red.
It rather reminded one of a certain food—roasted pig trotters.
“Did Your Highness feel uneasy about leaving me alone and came to check on me? My injury really isn’t too serious!”
Su Yingxue pressed her hands against her chest, her eyes brimming with sweetness.
“Of course, I know it’s not serious. With your medical expertise, isn’t it something you can treat?” Chu Yihan stood across from her, his words harsh but his actions considerate.
Su Yingxue pouted. “A healer can’t treat herself, can she? And I really do have an illness that I can’t cure. In fact, it’s been getting worse.”
Chu Yihan suddenly grew serious. “What illness?”
“Lovesickness!” Su Yingxue scooted closer and reached for his hand. “Only Your Highness’s remedy can ease it a bit.”
Chu Yihan’s eyes turned cold, and he immediately tried to push her hand away.
But Su Yingxue grasped his hand firmly, pressing it to her cheek as she softly laughed, “Your hand is so warm, Your Highness.”
Warmer than however many blankets she could pile on at night.
In an instant, Chu Yihan found himself defenseless against her.
He had never experienced how utterly disarming a young lady’s coyness could be.
Considering Su Yingxue’s injury, Chu Yihan sat with her for a while, and when she made the rather brazen request to be carried back to her bed, he didn’t refuse.
“Chu Yihan, with you by my side, I feel truly at ease. All the confusion and helplessness of these past days—has completely vanished.”
Su Yingxue wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning close to his ear, speaking softly.
“These days, you’ve felt lost too.” Chu Yihan frowned slightly.
It was the same feeling he had buried deep in his heart.
Everyone said the two of them were gravely injured and had both lost their memories.
But their shared amnesia was far too coincidental, and everything around them…
Felt far too unfamiliar.
“Have you ever felt as though everything around you—people, events—seems just a little off?” Chu Yihan lightly patted her back, his brows furrowed as he asked.
“Yes!”
Su Yingxue abruptly sat up straight, clutching his hand tightly. “Do you feel that way too, Your Highness? For example, only you feel warm to me. Everyone else I come into contact with—I can’t sense their warmth, but they themselves don’t seem to notice!”
“Yes!”
A sudden surge of strong emotion welled up in Chu Yihan’s heart.
Both he and Su Yingxue were the same!
Only the people around them were different…
No!
Perhaps, it was the other way around. Only the two of them were different, while everyone else was exactly the same.
“Do you recall anything about the past they’ve spoken of—the history between the two of us?” Chu Yihan immediately asked.
Su Yingxue bit her lip. “I don’t remember… but Zhilan and Mother have both told me; it’s like I can remember and yet I can’t!”
“No! Those are merely things they’ve told you, aren’t they? They don’t actually exist in your memories, right?” Chu Yihan gripped her hand tightly.
In that moment, both their hearts raced wildly.
“Yes! But I can’t find any breakthrough. Clearly, nothing feels right! Clearly, I don’t remember these things! Yet events keep happening, without stopping!”
Su Yingxue poured out her thoughts to him without pause.
In that instant, they both felt an incredible resonance with one another.
Chu Yihan felt the same.
He couldn’t find a breakthrough either.
“No, now you and I are the breakthrough.”
Chu Yihan pulled her into his arms, his chin brushing against her cheek. “Don’t be afraid. Your Highness will come each day to keep you company and… treat your lovesickness.”
He felt slightly embarrassed saying it aloud, but he couldn’t deny the feelings he had developed for her.
Her vibrant presence uplifted him, her emotions swayed his own.
And he found himself wanting to see her again, over and over.
The strange sensation within his heart—there was indeed a reason for it.
Su Yingxue nestled into his embrace, rubbing against his chest like a kitten, her voice soft and delicate, “Alright.”
Chu Yihan sat by her bedside, keeping watch until dawn before leaving.
Su Yingxue initially wanted to exaggerate the severity of her foot injury so he’d worry over her a few more days, but now, it seemed unnecessary!
Early in the morning, Zhilan entered and saw Su Yingxue sitting on the bed, hugging the blanket, beaming.
She hurried over to Su Yingxue, bowed deeply, and said, “Congratulations, Miss. Such joyous news! Miss will ascend to the honored position of Crown Princess Consort. Congratulations!”
She assumed Su Yingxue’s happiness was due to accepting Chu Chengye’s proposal.
But when Su Yingxue heard her words, it was as if she had been struck by lightning. “What did you say? Ascend to the honored position of Crown Princess Consort!?”
She was so shocked that she suddenly stood up, a sharp pain shooting through her ankle, causing her to cry out, “What Crown Princess Consort! What does this position have to do with me?”
“Miss… didn’t you accept the Seventh Prince’s proposal?” Zhilan said, quickly correcting herself. “Now it’s proper to refer to him as the Crown Prince! The Crown Prince asked the emperor for a marriage decree. The emperor conferred him the title of Crown Prince and decreed you as his Crown Princess Consort. The envoy already announced the decree. When they heard Miss was injured, Marquis accepted the decree on your behalf. The entire Great Cheng Dynasty now knows, Miss, you’re to become the Crown Princess Consort!”
Becoming Crown Princess Consort was merely the first step. When Chu Chengye ascended the throne, Su Yingxue would already be the rightful empress!
What an exalted position that would be!
“How is this possible! When did I agree to his proposal? How could you… accept the decree for me!” Su Yingxue’s eyes turned red, her entire body trembling uncontrollably.
She had been happy for merely one night; how had everything changed so drastically?
“Prepare my makeup! I must see the emperor. I will not be the Crown Princess Consort! I don’t like Chu Chengye!”
Su Yingxue grabbed onto Zhilan, urging her to help her dress and apply makeup.
Zhilan, flustered, assisted her while expressing her confusion, “You likely won’t see the Crown Prince today. He’s attending the investiture ceremony. But the Crown Prince mentioned yesterday, before entering the palace, that Miss agreed in person! There are even witnesses from the stables!”
“What agreement? I was distracted!” Su Yingxue felt immeasurable regret. Yesterday, she had been too focused on watching Chu Yihan and had completely missed what Chengye had been saying!
It turned out he had been proposing to her!
