The Villain's Story

Chapter 708: [708] Unique skills.(2)

“There were none, as far as we know.”

’What?’

My thoughts were scattered when I heard those words, I was wandering in the midst of belief and disbelief. On one hand, I had just heard that the usage of Lapsus had no drawbacks, none at all.

A skill as unbelievable as that, and one could use it as many times as he wanted. That was the unbelievable part.

But then, there was something that made me believe it, too. The user was Aranus, of course he would have something as overpowered as that. It was just normal when one took him into account.

’… So why did he not win? How did he lose with that?’

How did Aranus still lose with a skill like that? The fact that he lost made it seem plausible that the skill would have a severe drawback… Well, he didn’t really lose, But I think there was something else in the play.

After all, if it did have a drawback, then Ariel and the rest would know about it. There was no I would believe that they would not find a weakness in that skill throughout the many iterations. It was simply unbelievable.

So, there was no drawback on using the skill. It was the user, the user was the flaw of the skill. I found it hard to believe that Aranus, even under the control of the abyss, would use a skill like that so… freely.

’He definitely resisted the use of it…’

As far-fetched as it sounded, He really wasn’t the type to cause…universal genocide willingly. There was a reason he failed again and again. Although the intentions of the abyss are still unknown as to why it did what it did.

There was a reason it failed so many times, and that reason was Aranus, the very tool it was using. I… know him, I guess. I’m confident that he was the sole reason Lapsus was not used to its full potential. Not only that, but I am sure.

The very drawback of the skill is Aranus.

“It was him, he is the drawback of Lapsus.”

I muttered, Ariel clearly heard me, but she remained silent for a bit, contemplating.

I both heard and felt the sigh she released and struggled to stay grounded, as her words rang in my ears after.

“Perhaps…”

I couldn’t feel whatever she was thinking now, as if I was blocked off. Perhaps she didn’t want me to know her thoughts, or what expression she was having.

Clearing the dust on my clothes, I opened a portal and bade farewell to her. Even though the connection between us is blocked off, I can feel her mood has soured and anger is returning.

“Go.”

And she just confirmed it with her words. I stepped into the portal and bade her farewell.\\

“Bye.”

“Don’t forget what I said.”

“Sure.”

So I have to go inside with all of them? I can’t even begin to imagine how we are going to defeat that thing. The fragment is no joke, and I’m certain I haven’t even uncovered half of what that giant can do.

I stepped into the portal, only to come face to face with an odd sight.

**********

Sabrina woke up, and screamed. She was not the only one, as Olivia and Edward had done the same. Alexander and Kazikato seemed dazed.

The last thing Sabrina remembered was a flood of lightning… She had been so wrong, she had thought the sac on his back was a weakness, but it was simply a trap.

The moment her attack managed to pierce it, the lightning did not run rampant inside Kizmal’s body like she had intended, like she had created her spell to do. It had instead backfired on her.

She saw it explode, and was covered in lightning, liquid lightning that…engulfed her. It happened so quickly, she was not able to erect a strong defensive spell. Even the runes on her body were useless against that storm.

She had…died.

’… I died.’

There was no doubt in her mind, her body had been immolated, eviscerated. Her eyes were wide open, and she was shaking. Discover stories with NovelFire.Côm

Everyone had died, and they had died in an instant. Kazikato had finally run out of luck, and he was caught by Kizmal’s iron grip. He had been torn in half as a beam of eviscerating light erased whatever trace of him was left.

Olivia had been crushed, it was a slow but quick death. The electricity around Kizmal’s hands had taken her before the force of the giant could. With no one to pick him up, Edward had no choice but to fall.

He had made a landing, but broke his feet in the process. And there was no way for him to run from the gigantic foot that would be his end.

Alexander had made it to the face, but he had done it at a very unfortunate time. Abalak had finally managed to wound Kizmal’s eye severely, and the blood that was released all fell onto Alexander, immolating him in an instant.

The rest had died fairly quick ’deaths’, but he had suffered. His mind was still blank, and his breaths were inconsistent. Only a moment earlier had he been burning alive.

Kazikato was stupefied. While he was clearly more in control than the rest, even he was shaking, and confused.

“Blargh!”

Olivia began to vomit, whatever was inside of her stomach was released, Sabrina, Edward, Alex and Kazikato followed, the realization had hit them. Maxwell, Alice, and Emma were all shocked. While Azmakul continued looking at the blue sea, his back towards everyone.

They had rushed to help, but it was of no use. Everyone still remembered their deaths vividly, and they resisted any foreign touch out of instinct.

“What did you do?”

Maxwell turned around, a frown on his face as he asked. Azmakul replied.

“Nothing.”

It had taken them an hour to finally calm down, and only then did they realize what had happened.
