Chapter 1088: Whispering Pearl City
While Vaan’s subscribers and fans were complaining on online forums, Vaan arrived at the outskirts of Whispering Pearl City, one of the major commercial regions in the Merman Domain.
Vaan did not know about the restriction on his Pomposity channel, but he wouldn’t care anyway.
After all, he didn’t pin any hope on his Pomposity channel to earn CP. Pomposity was certainly a great platform for earning CP, but he had never doubted that underhanded means could be used to restrict his CP-earning ability through it.
Even if no one was viewing his live-stream, his Pompos was constantly recording his activities, leaving a record. That alone was enough protection to ward off most low-level troublemakers.
After entering Whispering Pearl City, Vaan took the opportunity to observe the bustling streets and the goods sold by street vendors. He only had five words to describe the scene: pearls, pearls, and more pearls.
The city’s name was self-explanatory.
The majority of Whispering Pearl City’s commerce revolved around pearls. However, people would be sorely mistaken if they believed Whispering Pearl City’s pearls were just mere trinkets and accessories that looked nice to wear.
In fact, every pearl sold in Whispering Pearl City possessed at least one utility or function.
Finding a pearl that was purely decorative without a single useful utility or function was impossible. It would need to be custom-ordered. But even then, the manufacturer would question why someone would want something so useless and worthless.
Whispering Pearl City’s pearls came with various utilities and functions.
For example, the Tideguard Pearl could ward off curses, the Pearl of Purity could cleanse toxins and poisons from one’s body, or the Moonlit Pearl, which glowed at night, could keep nightmares away and improve one’s sleep in general.
The higher their quality, the stronger their effect.
There were also weather-controlling pearls, such as the Stormcaller Pearl, which could summon storms, waves, and high tides when cast into the sea, or defensive-type pearls like the Bubble Pearl and the Turtleguard Pearl. One generated a bubble of breathable air to protect the user while the other conjure a spiritual turtle shell to block physical and magical attacks.
There were even communication-type pearls, such as the Whispering Pearl, which allowed the holder to speak to other sea creatures.
While these items didn’t seem to hold much valuable in the Myriad Sea God Palace, they were invaluable outside of it, especially in low-tier Star Kingdoms, where such items were considered very magical.
’Memory Pearls? These are good for storing memories, visions, or even souls. Oh? Soulcall Pearls? They can call a lost soul to return to its body? Good stuff,’ Vaan thought while browsing the street wares.
Strictly speaking, the Soulcall Pearl wasn’t a pearl of resurrection.
After all, resurrection was the act of bringing something back to life after it experienced death. The Soulcall Pearl was only useful for bringing back a soul that had been separated from its physical body.
There were many ways to separate the soul from the physical body without bringing death to either. Many Divine Beings could separate and reconnect their soul and body freely without consequences.
On the other hand, mortals wouldn’t be able to achieve this.
In fact, if their mortal souls weren’t particularly stronger than normal, then in the unfortunate event that their mortal soul and body were separated, the body would enter a brain-dead-like state while the soul would wander aimlessly.
Death would eventually come if the mortal body and soul were separated for too long.
As such, the Soulcall Pearl would be invaluable to mortals who have suffered such mishaps, and no other experts were present to help them.
Any pearl Vaan casually picked from the street stalls would be considered divine and miraculous in mortal realms. However, even if the value of these pearls were greatly inflated in the mortal realms, Vaan doubted that few Divine Beings would be willing to make the trip to trade. ꞦA𐌽Ố𝔟Ěṥ
After all, many disciples were struggling to improve themselves in the Myriad Sea God Palace. How could they spend their precious CP to trade the pearls for a bunch of inferior goods in a faraway land that would likely not aid their cultivation or goals?
It simply wasn’t worth the effort or the trip.
It was one thing if one could trade rubbish for treasure, and another thing to trade treasure for rubbish. No one in their right mind would choose the latter.
While Vaan was browsing the pearl collection in the street market, he discovered that none of the pearls exceeded Rank 6 quality. However, he didn’t find this surprising, considering he was in the lowest-level commercial district.
’Supposedly, if one had enough CP, they could even purchase a Rank 11 Divine Damnation Pearl capable of smiting anyone below True Divinity...’ Vaan recalled the information from a brochure he picked up earlier.
It was quite scary to imagine that such destructive power could be captured and stored in small bead-sized pearls.
However, these kinds of offensive pearls belonged to the category of single-use consumables. Once they were thrown out and activated, they would be gone. There was no retrieving for secondary or third usage.
Even so, it wouldn’t stop many disciples from considering the Divine Damnation Pearl as a trump card if they could obtain it. Many mermen and mermaid disciples without hopes of achieving True Divinity even considered it their ultimate goal to pursue.
Meanwhile, Vaan didn’t find Divine Damnation Pearls particularly attractive.
After all, while the destructive power of Divine Damnation Pearls was impressive, they were also far too dangerous to use. If it was mishandled or if the holder was unskilled, they could perish with it.
While making his way down the incomparably long bustling street market, a daring mermaid with fair complexion and long golden hair suddenly hooked her arms around Vaan’s left arm, pressing it against her cushy melon and pulling him aside.
Since her friendly smile expressed the absence of malice, Vaan wasn’t particularly guarded and enjoyed the ’free service’ that came onto him unexpectedly.
"Excuse me, Young Master. Do you have a moment to chat inside our store? We would like to propose a business opportunity," the golden-haired mermaid disciple expressed hopefully, sneaking a peek at the Pompos floating a short distance behind Vaan.
Vaan blinked, grasping some understanding of the situation.
Unexpectedly, before he could search for some opportunities in Whispering Pearl City, one came to him instead.
