Chapter 575: Two Towers
Chapter 575: Two Towers
Dominic considered the options for the new Mage Sect, and then decided that the far side of river, closer to the area where the hunters homes were, would still be the best option for the new Sect.
But he still had some questions before they could settle in.
“First things first. I need to know the name of your sect, your specialty, and what nations might have you on a wanted or inadmissible list. I know you said potions and healing are the specialty, but that can be a fairly broad category.” Dominic explained.
The mages laughed. “Well, we’re not allowed in Dagos, and we’re not popular in Shersdonia, given the relationship between Trolls and the Undead. But we’re not formally banned from anywhere but Dagos.
Among the Mage Clans, we’ve actually got a pretty good reputation. It’s just that we didn’t have a great territory for what we do.
But if we’re here, and we have access to portal arrays and high-speed airships, we should be able to reach our old customers while having a higher output capacity for our potions.”
Prince Fahad nodded, “Might I know your Sect Name?”
“We distributed goods as the South Prescom Conglomerate, but we are technically the Golden Sand Dervish Sect.”
Prince Fahad checked a paper from his storage item, and then nodded. “Alright, your Sect is cleared. As you said, we don’t have any of you registered as wanted criminals, other than a few who had altercations with Dagos aligned Nobles, due to nonhuman lineage.”
“That’s good enough verification for me. If your home nation isn’t trying to run you off, you’re welcome to settle here. Did you need help constructing a new tower, or did you have the talents among you?
I know, it might be a silly question, but I have to ask.” Dominic added.
“We should be good. As long as we get the right spot, there won’t be any troubles getting our group settled in. We’ve got plenty of construction skills and experience, as you can’t stay in the same spot too long in the desert.
So, we’ve built and renovated many shelters over the years.
Plus, we have the trolls. With Trollish magic, most things are possible. We should have the basics of the tower up by the end of the day, and then we will decorate the interior before we start working on the surrounding fields.
Most of it won’t be ready to start planting until the end of the wet season, but we can stockpile food crops until then.”
Dominic smiled. “I love when we get practical people. Alright, my Dave will show you all to the spot. You know the one, right?”
Dave nodded. “Yep. Across the river, the broken house past the airship Dwarves.”
Prince Fahad nodded. Dave might be lacking in many areas when it came to mental abilities, but his sense of direction and memory for landmarks was perfect.
“Off you go, then. I will come visit once you are settled in. Try to avoid the staging area for the other refugees, or there might be trouble about you getting an assignment while they’re still waiting to find out who has space for them.” Dominic mentioned quietly.
“Will you be staging all the mage towers that come here near the city?” One of the Elders asked.
Dominic shook his head. “No. I’m thinking that four is enough near the city. One on each side. If we happen to get more, I will suggest suitable placings among the Barons.
But that brings me to another matter. The Duskblade Sect runs a mage academy for the local students. If you wish to do the same, or offer other tutelage, let me know.
I will approve of it if the plan is good.”
The Elder waved one of the Trollish women over, a lanky sort with long lower tusks and pale blue skin.
“The Duke says that it might be possible to start a healer training academy here. When we’re settled in, this is the man to go find in order to arrange for the school to be built and students enrolled.”
The troll nodded. “That sounds good, boss. We’ve got all the Larry Trolls we need to teach kids how to heal properly. If we can find human kids with enough magic, we can get a whole hospital set up for the farmers.”
Dominic nodded. “That’s a noble goal. Farmers often get injured, and there is usually a shortage of healers in any city, but even worse in the farm areas.”
The Trollish woman smiled at him. “I expected you to mention that they make the food, so we need to look after them.”
“That’s just a given. Larry would never forgive you if you ran out of food in the pantry. You’ll have to keep an eye on the boys, though. There are a lot of goats and sheep in the area, and they’ll never get anything done if you let them play with goats all day.”
The woman sighed. “It’s a never-ending battle. They get sad without goats, they get distracted with goats, and you can’t teach goats not to try to headbutt people inside the clinic.”
“Well, I’m sure that you’ll work something out. But I’m looking forward to hearing your proposal for the healer’s academy. We’ve got a whole school for mages, and we’ve got a few Daves helping teach about agriculture at the school as well.
But there are plenty of new kids who will need teaching, and trolls are likely better at teaching farming magic than mages are.”
If the trolls weren’t better at teaching nature magic it would be extremely shocking.
“Got it, Dragon Duke. I will talk to the mages and the ladies and work out a plan to take all the students who aren’t going to be mages. Do they teach how to make devices at the other place?”
“They do. They also have a few Techno Witches with them. Just in case they get a special case or two.”
“Got it. Healers and farmers will be ours. No problems.”
