Chapter 1233: In a new light
Chapter 1233: In a new light
“How are the orders going?” Lin Fan asked Duke Rosewood when he saw him.
Duke Rosewood looked tired, but at the same time…
“It’s amazing how many orders are coming in.” He said in an excited voice.
It was clear that even though he was tired from fulfilling all the orders that he received, Duke Rosewood was happy that he was being treated in a completely new light now.
In the past, people had thought that he was nothing more than a strange person that messed around with magic items.
But now that they saw the power that his magic items possessed, they treated him with respect. Or at least they did it to his face since they knew that they couldn’t offend Duke Rosewood or else they wouldn’t be able to get these magic item suits from him.
Though in private…there was no telling what they did.
Still, that didn’t matter since Duke Rosewood was happy about what happened.
As long as he was happy, then that was all that mattered for Lin Fan.
After all, he needed to be happy so that he would continue doing all of these things for Lin Fan. He was the main researcher for continued development on the Iron Legion, so Lin Fan needed him to have the motivation to continue working.
There were still many different things that he wanted to improve on when it came to the Iron Legion.
To make these improvements happen, Lin Fan needed the help of Duke Rosewood.
It wasn’t that he didn’t know anything about the magic tools, it was just that he didn’t have the same knowledge and expertise that Duke Rosewood had.
After asking about these small matters, Lin Fan moved onto the main topic by asking, “How far have you gotten with those things I left with you last time?”
The moment that he heard this, Duke Rosewood’s eyes immediately lit up.
In the end, he was a magic item otaku to the end and when it came to what he was obsessed over, it was hard for him to extract himself.
Without any hesitation, he led Lin Fan to his lab.
Even though as they passed through Duke Rosewood’s territory, they encountered many nobles that seemed to have come here just to pay a visit to him.
If this was before, it was unlikely that any of them would have gone out of their way to come visit Duke Rosewood. After all, when Lin Fan came to visit Duke Rosewood before, this place was practically abandoned.
Even though he was a duke, it really seemed like he was in the middle of nowhere with how dull his territory was.
But now…
Some of the ones that were more bold couldn’t help coming forward to say a few things to Duke Rosewood. It was just that when they tried to talk to him, Duke Rosewood immediately refused to discuss anything with them.
“I have a VIP guest, so I’m afraid that I don’t have the time to meet with you today.”
The same bold ones couldn’t help narrowing their eyes when they heard this.
They were annoyed that Duke Rosewood was treating them like this, but since they wanted something from him, it wasn’t as if they could do anything to him. Instead, the only one that they could take their frustrations out on was Lin Fan.
So that was why they looked at him as if they couldn’t believe that he would be considered more important than them.
Lin Fan naturally didn’t care about how they looked at him since he wasn’t an established noble of the Laver Empire. In the first place, he wasn’t even looking for their respect.
The only thing that he had over them was a shared benefit and he would use that to bring them to his side.
So it wasn’t as if it mattered how they looked at him.
But it didn’t seem like Duke Rosewood was happy seeing them act this way.
The moment that he saw them looking at Lin Fan like this, he added, “He’s also a major investment in the Iron Legion. If it wasn’t for his initial investment, I wouldn’t have been able to develop them.”
At this, they couldn’t help slightly knitting their brows.
For Duke Rosewood to emphasize that Lin Fan was a major investor, that just went to show how much he had put down to fund this project. At the same time, they knew that it wouldn’t be a small amount since even someone like Duke Rosewood was calling him a major investor.
Duke Rosewood was one of the dukes of the Laver Empire, so it wasn’t as if he was that poor.
For him to call it a major investment, it was clear that it was a very large amount that even a duke couldn’t afford.
This changed the way that everyone perceived Lin Fan.
They already knew that he was rich, but now they couldn’t help thinking that he was very rich to be able to afford something like this.
But this wasn’t the only thing that Duke Rosewood had to say.
What he added afterwards was enough to shock them all.
“Not to mention that it was because of his suggestions that I was able to implement many of the features of the Iron Legion. It could be said that half of the credit for developing the Iron Legion belongs to him.”
There was no reason for Duke Rosewood to lie about something like this since there was nothing to gain from sharing the credit like this.
But since he shared the credit, that meant that the impact that Lin Fan had on this Iron Legion project was much bigger than they thought. This meant that he was also a major part of the development and had just as many rights to decide who the Iron Legion was sold to.
The nobles that had kept silent couldn’t help feeling relieved that they had held themselves back.
If they hadn’t, then they would have suffered the same fate as these ones that had questioned Lin Fan.
The ones that questioned Lin Fan were naturally filled with regret.
They had come here to get Iron Legion suits to defend their territory or even to claim more territory with, but if they’ve offended the one that controls them…
After a certain point, there was even a trace of fear that appeared in their eyes.
After all, if the other nobles were to get the Iron Legion suits before them…then it was likely that their territories would be in danger. It wasn’t as if everything was peaceful between the nobles of the Laver Empire.
Even if they were all nobles of the Laver Empire, there were still grudges that happened between nobles. Especially since most nobles were filled with ambition to make their territory larger or have a higher title.
Doing something like that required taking out the ones that stood in one’s way.
Namely, the other nobles that had those territory and those titles.
While it was forbidden for the nobles to directly fight with each other over territory and titles, there were plenty of ways that they would be able to fight if they really wanted to.
When the laws of the Laver Empire were written, there were already clauses regarding this.
It was impossible to completely control one’s subordinates, so one had to think of a way to control their ambition. That was what Haku did by creating these clauses in the laws of the Laver Empire.
So for those nobles that had ambitions, the Iron Legion suits really were the best way for them to claim what they wanted.
The problem was whether they would be able to get them or not.
It really seemed like the nobles that had made a mistake wanted to apologize, but Duke Rosewood actually shut them down. Instead of giving them a chance, he quickly parted them aside and started heading towards the lab.
It was as if he couldn’t wait a single second longer as he wanted to reach the lab as soon as possible just so he could test the things that Lin Fan had brought.
Lin Fan couldn’t help shaking his head with a faint smile when he saw him like this, but he didn’t say anything as he just silently followed behind Duke Rosewood.
While he could have said something to the nobles that were filled with regret, he chose not to say anything.
After all, he really didn’t care how they felt about him.
With the power that the Iron Legion suits demonstrated, it was hard for them to ignore.
They should know that if they didn’t have these suits on their side, they would be disadvantaged in the future. The future would leave them behind if they didn’t adapt to the changes that came.
So he would have something over them that would allow him to control them.
With that, everything else was unnecessary.
When they walked into the lab, Duke Rosewood said, “To treat my saviour in this manner.”
Lin Fan couldn’t help being surprised when he heard this.
He never thought that Duke Rosewood would see him like this, but it did put him in a new light.
It seemed that perhaps Duke Rosewood would be more useful than he thought.
He only thought that Duke Rosewood would be a collaborator and nothing more, but the loyalty that he demonstrated…
Well, it wasn’t a bad thing if Duke Rosewood was a part of their inner circle since he was a talent that Lin Fan wanted.
He certainly didn’t want to hand him over to anyone else.
