Chapter 1535: Chapter 528: Aberrant Spider Swarm (Part 2)

“Be careful!”

The spider webs were quite unique, exceedingly sticky. Brighton warriors caught by them struggled as if stuck by powerful glue, their movement greatly hindered.

The oily green venom was even more corrosive, akin to sulfuric acid. Even with the strong constitution of Brighton people, their skin reddened, blistered, and began to fester instantly upon contact.

“These webs and venom are the most troublesome,” Anna grumbled.

But she wasn’t too worried. As expected, once the leading Brighton youth—Anna’s brother Antaruka—turned red and grew larger, the battle neared its end.

“Indeed, possessing giant bloodline, albeit faint, can still determine the outcome of a small skirmish,” Rein assessed Antaruka’s capabilities at a glance.

“Huh? This faint aura seems to be…”

Rein squinted slightly, his expression thoughtful.

As a late-stage Dawn Wizard, Rein’s senses were exceptionally keen. He noticed that after the black-striped spiders died, besides the stinking blood and innards, there was a faint and familiar aura.

The aura was so weak that Rein hardly noticed at first, but as more mutated spiders perished, he took note.

“It’s almost identical to the aura when Staven was last here,” he mused.

After a moment’s thought, Rein was certain of it.

“Are these mutated spiders not very strong, or is there a stronger individual among them?” Rein questioned.

“Yes, sir. The strength of these mutated spiders is varied; some individuals are quite strong,” said a Brighton elder who approached.

“However, the most troublesome aspect is their rapid reproduction. They drag prey corpses into subterranean nests to lay eggs, and soon after, more spiders emerge.”

“There should be mutated spider nests nearby.”

“Oh? Can you take me to see them?” Rein pondered aloud.

“Of course,” replied the elder amiably, perhaps also curious about Rein’s abilities.

“I want to go too! I’ve never seen a mutated spider nest!” Anna exclaimed excitedly.

“Sister!”

Antaruka swiftly approached, covered in blood and grime, wielding a battle axe.

“Brother, with you and the elder here, I’ll be safe, right?” Anna pleaded, shaking her brother’s hand eagerly.

“Alright, but you must stay by my side and not wander off,” he relented with a headshake.

Rein smiled slightly at the scene, reminded of his sister, Anna.

Just then, a giant eagle circled in the northwestern sky, seemingly pointing the way.

“Over there!”

Soon, Rein, the Brighton elder, Antaruka, and several others reached the fringe of a patch of ocher land.

The area was roughly a few hundred square meters. The original mountainous meadow had long withered, replaced by yellowish-brown dead grass. What stood out most was the multitude of fist-sized holes, densely scattered like scars on the earth.

Meanwhile, groups of tiny gray spiders intermittently crawled out of one hole, only to quickly disappear into another, flowing ceaselessly.

“Indeed, it’s related to Nayu Break Back,” Rein silently concluded.

Here, the aura became slightly denser, yet remained nearly imperceptible to anyone below the level of a Dawn Wizard.

“This was originally Isodre school’s territory. Even if ordinary school wizards are unaware of the secrets behind the mutated spider swarm, Stuart, a Dawn Wizard with the ’Shield of Rock’ title, shouldn’t be ignorant of reports from his subordinates!”

“Why then, does he allow the Tutkash school’s actions?”

“Could it be…” Rein narrowed his eyes, having a vague suspicion.

Then a Brighton elder beside him remarked:

“Sir, despite the small appearance of these holes, they are extraordinarily deep, resistant even to boiling water methods. Only high rank earth wizards using earth witchcraft can eradicate the mutated spider swarm here.”

Rein nodded, saying nothing, but resolved internally to take care of the nest since he encountered it.

After all, it was nothing more than a simple task for him.

He stepped forward, bent down, and gently placed his palm on the ground.

Seeing Rein’s action, the elder and others, including the Brighton elder, watched curiously, wondering what the stranger wizard intended.

Suddenly!

They saw dark silver ripples emanating from the young human wizard’s palm, covering the area extensively, enveloping the whole region.

Next moment!

Piercing sounds erupted as sharp dark silver metallic spikes grew rapidly on the ground and within the holes, resembling a thorny forest!

“Hiss hiss!”

The myriad hole openings emitted the dying screams of mutated spiders, but silence soon followed.

After completing this, Rein rose smiling, observing that every one, including the Brighton elder, seemed immobilized, mouths agape, eyes wide, staring at the scene before them, unable to snap out of it.
