First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2431 - Tacit Understanding

Chapter 2431 – Tacit Understanding

Boom!

Beneath the distant dome of heaven, purple lightning ran rampant, and divine radiance rose, sweeping through the sky like a windstorm.

One terrifying ancient variant species after another shot toward them, one after another.

Crunch!

A purple serpent took to the sky, its mountainous body swathed in churning purple lightning. It bore through the sky as it charged ahead.

Wherever it passed, the sky shattered, and the mountains and rivers were reduced to powder. Its explosive ferocity was like a thunderstorm sweeping across the landscape.

“The Purple Lightning Serpent!” Wen Qingfeng gasped. “It’s one of the mightiest ancient variant species of the Southern Flame Forbidden Zone. It once ate a Nine-Tribulation Master God alive!”

But a moment later, his expression shifted once more.

Because he’d just discovered that there were other equally terrifying ancient variant species following the mountainously huge Purple Lightning Serpent.

A blood-red butterfly beat its wings, its dripping wings covered in sinister eyes.

The Soul Annihilation Butterfly!

It too was among the mightiest lifeforms of the Boundless Battlefield. Wherever it passed, nothing grew, not even an inch of grass. It was so fearsome that even gods paled at the mention of their name.

Then there was a blue lion riding on blood-red clouds. Its body was swathed in resplendent rings of golden flame, and whenever its eyes opened and closed, the sky shattered.

The Goldenflame Blue Lion!

This too was a peak natural variant species, a tyrannical beast not any weaker than the Purple Lightning Serpent and the Spirit Annihilation Butterfly.

That aside, there were swarms of Void Ants, each like a deeply hidden assassin.

There was a thousand-foot withered tree with bald branches laden with bundles of fire, each like a blazing sun.

And there were palm-sized green moths, so numerous that from a distance they looked like green clouds shifting through the air.

From a distance, it was obvious that all of these terrifying creatures were headed their way in a grand procession. As their ferocious auras converged, heaven and earth were thrown into chaos. Wherever they passed, visions of collapse and destruction followed.

“What… what’s going on here?” someone exclaimed in disbelief.

Over the years, each of those supreme variant beasts had occupied its own territory, seldom leading. Thus, unless someone provoked them, they had no need to fear the danger they represented.

Yet now, they’d broken precedent by leaving their territories. Moreover, they’d all done so simultaneously. Together, they were like a grand army charging their way.

Nothing of the sort had ever happened in the Boundless Battlefield before!

“You still don’t understand? The Outsider Celestial Demons are controlling those mighty variant beasts. If they’ve left their territories, it’s naturally to target us,” Luo Yao said gravely.

She looked at Su Yi and said hurriedly, “Daoist Brother, should we change course?”

Su Yi shook his head. “If it’s as I suspect, no matter which direction we try, our enemies will have sealed it off already. They’re… terrified we’ll escape!

“If we do, they’ll lose track of us, and that will put them in a passive position. Escape, and we’ll seize the initiative. It’ll be entirely up to us whether we go into hiding or launch an offensive against them. This is what they mean when they say that attacking is completely different from defending.”

The others instantly understood.

“That means they’re determined to surround us no matter the price,” said Luo Yao. She and the others realized how serious the situation was, too.

“We won’t be able to avoid fierce combat, but all we need to do is head straight for the Thousand Deaths Mountains. We cannot retreat, and we absolutely cannot let ourselves get stuck here,” Su Yi said calmly. “Do you remember our promise to fight side-by-side, everyone?”

The group exchanged glances, their blood heating up and their will to fight catching ablaze.

Back when Li Fuyou had been active in the Boundless Battlefield, he’d set a rule—he and his allies fought side by side, living and dying together. They’d never abandon each other!

“Haha! We’re not afraid to die. Brother Fuyou, even if I die, now that I’ve gotten to fight alongside you, I can die without regrets!” someone threw back his head and laughed.

“Then let’s fight until we’ve overturned heaven and earth!”

“Of course!”

The others shouted their agreement. All of them erupted with monstrous murderous intent.

When Su Yi saw this, he could help but feel a bit touched.

These were his old friends, and each was an unparalleled figure in their own right. Any one of them could have caused an enormous commotion in the God Domain.

When he thought back to the tragedy they’d endured in Dao-Seeking City, it was hard not to feel emotional.

“Let’s go!” said Su Yi, his gaze clear and flashing with cold murderous intent.

He led the way, charging into the throng of natural variant species. His blue robes swayed around him, and his sword intent rose into the firmament.

Boom!

Luo Yao and the others followed him, each emanating boundless divine majesty. The power of the Undying Realm swept forth like a tidal wave or avalanche, terrifying beyond measure.

Practically instantaneously, a grand battle erupted in his narrow pass.

Clang!

Su Yi drew the Sword of Proximity and unleashed the full extent of his No Laws, No Heavens cultivation base against the Purple Lightning Serpent.

When his sword fell, his sword intent was like a burning, chaotic river of stars. Chaos flames churned, his sword intent searing and tyrannical.

The Purple Lightning Serpent’s churning purple thunderstorm broke beneath this slash, scattering into currents of electricity and dissipating.

That tyrannical, explosive sword intent even left a bloody sword wound in the Purple Lightning Serpent’s mountainous body!

It roared in agony, its eyes reddening.

In just one slash, Su Yi had effortlessly injured a supreme natural variant beast. Luo Yao and the others couldn’t help but find this astonishing.

They knew that Su Yi had only just broken through and entered the Undying Realm earlier that day. In other words, he was still just a One-Tribulation Undying Realm Master God.

Who could have imagined that he’d already be strong enough to injure an ancient variant species comparable to a Nine-Tribulation Master God in a single slash? This was unquestionably far too astonishing!

But… When they remembered how Su Yi had defeated all those Demon Emperors in a row while still a Greater God, and how he’d fought on equal footing with a terrifying figure like Demon Emperor Lie Yun, everything suddenly made sense.

His Undying Realm Grand Tribulation had let him realize a transformation akin to rebirth. He was nothing like he’d been before!

“Kill!”

“Kill!”

“Kill!”

Luo Yao and the others’ thoughts raced. All of them attacked in rapid succession, unleashing the mightiest abilities at their disposal. All of them fought ferociously.

Boom!

The entire stretch of heaven and earth was thrown into chaos, utterly devoid of light. Everything shattered, and everything fell apart.

Searing hot sword intent whooshed through the air.

Unstoppable Undying divine radiance fell from the nine heavens, pouring down like rain as it swept out in all directions.

Treasures rumbled and boomed. Beasts roared, and the sounds of combat rose without end. It was like a vision of the apocalypse!

Still, Su Yi and his allies weren’t interested in a massacre. They were focused on breaking through this encirclement.

Thus, they gathered together with Su Yi as their leader, like a sharp ice pick thrust through the enemies’ ranks. They tore open a path of blood, then charged through it!

There was no need for any conversation or communication. All of them cooperated with incomparable tacit understanding.

They might have looked like ten-or-so different people, but they fought as one!

Su Yi was the leader of the pack. They fought wherever he pointed, and he could command them as he might his own fingers.

Luo Yao and the others found their cooperation incomparably satisfying. They felt as if they’d returned to their battles from countless years ago.

Back then, they accompanied Li Fuyou in battle throughout the Boundless Battlefield. No matter how great the danger, so long as Li Fuyou led them, they could cooperate seamlessly!

This kind of tacit understanding was the result of countless battles fought side-by-side. Working together had long since become instinctual.

When Su Yi next went into battle, that familiar mutual understanding resurfaced. His blood heated up, and his will to fight boiled over.

“Kill!” Wen Qingfeng bellowed, his sword intent unstoppably sharp, and his murderous aura filling heaven and earth.

The others fought too, their eyes red with bloodlust as they helped Su Yi charge through the enemy ranks.

They’d spent the past several years trapped in Dao-Seeking City, enduring innumerable tragedies, frustration, and despair. Their hearts had long since filled with accumulated anger and hatred.

Now, they’d finally found a place to vent it all!

“Kill!” Even Luo Yao erupted with murderous intent. When she attacked, chains of the natural order shot through the air, bearing through the sky and cleaving through every beast in her path with unparalleled majesty.

Blood splattered the air.

Severed limbs flew through the sky.

Desperate cries rang out without end.

The boundless army of ancient variant beasts split like cloth beneath a knife, opening a path of blood.

Wherever Su Yi and his allies passed, that path carved in blood expanded.

One supreme natural variant beast died after another. None could block their advance.

It wasn’t that the beasts weren’t strong enough, but that their coordination was far, far inferior to that of Su Yi and his companions.

It was that very coordination that let Su Yi and his companions tear open a path with unstoppable force!

Bang!

Sword qi cleaved the Spirit Annihilation Butterfly’s wings apart.

Immediately after, Luo Yao waved her sleeve, and unstoppably radiant arcs of divine radiance shot forth, damaging those wings covered in strange eyes.

The butterfly shrieked in agony and retreated.

Su Yi and his allies seized the opening to shoot into the distance. They were on the verge of breaking free!

But then, an icy voice suddenly rang out. “Su Yi, none of you can escape!”

The voice went off like a thunderclap, booming throughout the nine heavens and the ten earths.

Su Yi looked over and saw that yet another dense army had appeared in the distance. Their ranks seemed to stretch on in perpetuity, and they swept in like the tide, enveloping the entire stretch of heaven and earth. There was no end to them in sight!

It was a strange and terrifying army. Its ranks were comprised primarily of Deathless Body Demons, as well as countless Undying Divine Corpses and other strange lifeforms!

The strange lifeforms were the most numerous of all. Their forces seemed endlessly vast, and they were crammed into every last inch of space!

Their sheer scale and numbers were enough to make any Master God give in to despair.

And the leader of the group was none other than Demon Emperor Lie Yun!

He stood in midair, the power of his blood and qi rising into the heavens with unparalleled ferocity, the very picture of a monarch presiding over an army of hundreds of millions!

Luo Yao and the others’ hearts sank. They’d yet to break through the swarm of beasts, yet now, an even more terrifying army stood before them. How… How could they possibly break through an encirclement like this!?
