First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2456 - What Is a Competition?

Chapter 2456 – What Is a Competition?

Nothing remained but scorched earth.

A current of destructive power raged on, rumbling and booming without end.

Everything withered and collapsed.

Su Yi stood amidst the light and smoke, coughing violently. The sound wasn’t particularly loud, but it was extraordinarily grating to Di E’s ears.

Su Yi was still alive!!

Di E’s heart shook. Ripples of emotion coursed through him.

He was a Half-Step Eternal, and he’d used the strongest attack at his disposal, yet he’d failed to kill an opponent who’d only just recently entered the Undying Realm.

This completely overturned his perception of reality. He’d never have even imagined such a thing!

“Did you… rely on some external treasure?” Di E asked with a frown.

His eyes flashed like lightning as he gazed intently at Su Yi.

Su Yi’s wounds were severe, and he was covered in blood. In some places, his wounds were so deep that his bones were visible.

It was a shocking sight, but… he still wasn’t dead! His physical body hadn’t even been completely destroyed!

“Would I be in such a wretched state if I’d used external treasures?” Su Yi said hoarsely.

As the light and smoke receded, he gradually came back into view. His wounds were so severe that anyone would have been horrified at the sight of them.

But his back remained upright, and he looked as calm and majestic as ever!

You could kill a man, but there was no grinding away his essence, qi, and spirit!

“You didn’t use any external treasures, yet you still managed to survive…” murmured Di E. He couldn’t help but sigh. “To tell the truth, in my eyes, that’s like a miracle. It’s unbelievable.”

His emotional ripples were obvious; there was no faking that kind of shock.

“Do you think you won, or lost?” asked Su Yi. He wiped the blood from the corner of his lips and let out a deep breath. His eyes were bright, and his gaze was deep and intense.

That’s right. He was injured to the brink of death, but… that didn’t matter now.

Because he was still alive, and he still had the strength to fight!

“I both won and lost,” said Di E, his eyes surging with irrepressible murderous intent. “But so long as I deal with you now, it will ultimately have been my victory!”

“You can’t do it,” said Su Yi. “If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to try it. Let’s see whose hidden cards are stronger.”

Di E frowned. “You cannot defeat me in a clash of the Grand Dao. Are you going to renege on the rules and employ external powers?”

Su Yi snickered. “When did I agree to a pure clash of the Grand Dao?”

Di E instantly fell silent. Su Yi was right; Su Yi had never agreed to any sort of special rules.

“You’re a Half-Step Eternal, yet here you are, fighting someone who only just recently became a Master God. Di E… are you really worthy of speaking of clashes of the Grand Dao?”

In the God Domain, clashes of the Grand Dao had always had two unspoken rules. No external items were allowed, and both combatants had to be at the same level of cultivation!

When there were gaps in their cultivations, the cultivator with the higher cultivation would suppress their cultivation base. Only then would things be fair.

That was a true clash of the Grand Dao!

“Consider yourself lucky that you ran into me,” said Su Yi. “Otherwise, who else would be worthy of dueling you?

“And had I really wanted to use external treasures, I wouldn’t have needed to spend all that time playing with you, right? Given all that, are you sure you want to fight to the death?”

Di E’s expression shifted.

Su Yi took out a jug of wine, but in the end, he resisted the urge to take a sip.

“Right from the start, you were afraid of my hidden cards,” said Su Yi. “That’s why you suggested a one-on-one clash of the Grand Dao. I played along because I wanted to. If I decide I’m no longer interested in playing, you still ought to thank me for giving you the chance to duel me.”

Di E’s expression darkened considerably. “Even using trump cards requires a certain degree of strength, and you’re already an arrow at the end of its flight. I refuse to believe that hidden cards alone will be enough to save your life!”

As soon as his voice rang out, he attacked. His sleeves billowed around him as a wave of dark glyphs gathered in his hand and formed a spear in his grip.

Heaven and earth trembled. Those outside the ruins that were once the Hazy Sea Forbidden Zone could sense a strange and mysterious destructive power.

Startling and strange phenomena appeared in the sky throughout the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent. The Laws were agitated once more!

In other words, whatever attack Di E was about to unleash wasn’t any weaker than the Fall of Darkness!

“Die!” Di E bellowed, gripped his spear, and thrust into the space between him and Su Yi.

Su Yi’s gaze was calm and distant. His heart was clear, entirely untarnished by dust.

And the shocking transformation that had been disrupted earlier resumed. His body, soul, cultivation base, the Sword of the Nine Hells, and the Epoch Spark fused into his foundations in the Grand Dao burned as if tossed into an enormous furnace.

They burned completely, and erupted with the full extent of their power!

Boom!!

Su Yi didn’t retreat. Instead, he advanced, the Sword of Proximity appearing in his grip, clanging and humming and filling both heaven and earth with its radiance.

But just as they were about to clash, Di E retreated explosively!

His black spear had been on the verge of piercing Su Yi, only for him to retreat!

He retreated with incomparable speed and decisiveness, like a startled bird, vanishing in place and reappearing beneath the distant dome of heaven!

This sudden development made Su Yi frowned. He almost couldn’t suppress his power; it had been on the brink of eruption.

“Scared?” Su Yi took a deep breath and jeered.

Beneath the dome of heaven, Di E’s eyes shone like suns and moons. He gazed at Su Yi for a moment before saying, “I heard that when you faced all but certain doom in Dao-Seeking City, you invited your next tribulation and broke into the Undying Realm.

“If I’m not mistaken, you plan to repeat that same trick here. You’re using me as a whetstone to help you break through, aren’t you?”

His voice boomed throughout heaven and earth.

Su Yi’s eyebrows rose in obvious surprise.

Di E took his silence for confirmation. He laughed coldly, “You face death and overcome it, breaking to rebuild. This is the most dangerous way to break through, but to you, this is just another way to overcome adversity, isn’t it?”

Su Yi said calmly, “But the way I see it, you’re just finding excuses to justify your cowardice. So what if I use you to temper my blade? So what if I aim to break through mid-battle? If you were really determined to defeat me, why would you have shrunk back?”

Di E fell silent. It was true; he was confident he could kill Su Yi, but he wasn’t sure he could stop him from breaking through.

More importantly, he was cautious of Su Yi’s hidden cards!

In the past, he wouldn’t have been so cautious.

However, it had been just a month since the Five Witherings Gourd was damaged. Di E had suffered a severe backlash.

It was then that the little girl warned him that Su Yi’s hidden cards weren’t limited to his past life’s avatar of will; he also had a mysterious Dao Sword at least as strong as an Eternal treasure!

A hidden card like that was enough to make even Di E suffer a major setback. How could he not be cautious?

“You needn’t try to provoke me. I absolutely won’t give you a chance to break through mid-battle.”

Di E forcefully suppressed his murderous intent and bitterness, then said with cold indifference, “I waited here simply to test your limits personally. I’ve already gotten what I wanted!”

With that, he waved his sleeve through the air. That black spear vanished without a trace, and even his terrifying divine majesty withdrew. He now seemed utterly calm and composed, but when he looked around, his gaze was every bit as proud and contemptuous as before.

Su Yi’s brow furrowed. He hadn’t anticipated that Di E would lower his weapon at this critical juncture!

“Time changes all things, including people. Your so-called ‘testing my limits’ is nothing but a joke,” said Su Yi. He too was suppressing the bitterness in his heart. He calmed himself, then said flatly, “If I break through, how will you know how strong I’ve become without testing me again?

“And if you don’t go all out, how will you know just how many cards I have up my sleeves?”

Di E didn’t deny it. On the contrary, he inclined his head. “You’re right, but no matter how your strength changes, it’ll still originate from your origins in the Grand Dao. I’ll be satisfied so long as I grasp the mysteries and power of your Dao.”

He’d sensed the wonders of Su Yi’s power of reincarnation during their battle, and he’d confirmed the might of Su Yi’s Grand Dao.

He wouldn’t need to rely on mere experience to estimate Su Yi’s strength any longer!

Su Yi just said, “oh” and left it at that. His Divine Dao was unprecedented, and his Grand Dao was unique and unparalleled.

A single battle might have been enough for Di E to pick up a few hints, but his understanding was sure to be superficial. He couldn’t possibly have grasped the true mysteries of Su Yi’s Grand Dao!

That was why Su Yi disdained to say any more on the matter, and what gave him the confidence to turn up his nose at Di E.

A moment later, Su Yi’s brow furrowed. He’d just realized that something was amiss.

“Are you deliberately stalling for time?”
