First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2457 - Flies

Chapter 2457 – Flies

Stalling for time?

Di E didn’t deny it. He just stood there with his hands behind his back and gazed into the distance. “Our battle caused enough of a disturbance to alert the entire Spirit Firmament Divine Continent. If I’m not mistaken, numerous experts are already headed our way.”

Di E fixed his calm gaze on Su Yi once more. “How do you think they’ll react when they see the famous ‘greatest and most legendary sword cultivator’ in the God Domain in such dire straits?”

Was this a threat? Not really. Di E was simply describing something inevitable.

Di E had stopped fighting, but he obviously wasn’t willing to just let things end here. He wanted to keep Su Yi from leaving so that the experts rushing here would target him!

Su Yi sighed. “Don’t you think what you’re doing is awfully petty?”

Di E said calmly, “This isn’t a fair clash of the Grand Dao, so why shouldn’t I use every means at my disposal?”

Su Yi took a step through the air, drawing closer to Di E. “Flies rush over when they catch a whiff of blood. It really is endlessly irritating, but flies are ultimately just flies. They’re no threat to speak of.”

“It’s enough that they are troublesome,” said Di E as he watched Su Yi approach. He said calmly, “Besides, those who come running at the smell of blood might me small fries, but they also might be sharks large and powerful enough to take a bite out of you.”

Su Yi said nothing, but as he walked, his energy gathered, rumbling within him.

He was obviously injured to the point that he might well topple at a moment’s notice, and he was obviously covered in bleeding wounds, but he didn’t care in the slightest.

On the contrary, his momentum was growing all the stronger!

Di E’s eyes narrowed, but then, he suddenly laughed. “I have no desire to tangle with you any further.”

With that, black light flowed around him, and he silently vanished without a trace.

However, his voice still echoed throughout the devastated landscape. “But I’ll be watching you from the shadows!”

Su Yi’s brow furrowed. He understood what Di E was trying to do.

Di E was still watching him, which meant he’d have no chance to rest or treat his wounds, nor could he possibly flee.

As the disturbance drew more and more experts over, he’d find himself surrounded by enemies. No matter where he fled, those flies and ravening wolves would follow him hungrily.

After all, there was no hiding his injuries, and if he showed any sign of breaking, Di E would emerge from hiding and attack without hesitation!

However… Su Yi wasn’t at all concerned.

He put the Sword of Proximity away, took out a jug of wine, and continued into the distance.

The flies appeared far faster than Su Yi would have guessed. Within moments, dazzling streaks of light shot through the heavens and rushed toward him.

“Who is that?”

“That looks like Su Yi!”

“Why… Why is he in such bad condition?”

The experts stopped in the distance and watched Su Yi exit the Hazy Sea Forbidden Zone.

His battered frame was covered in blood, and he walked alone. To these newly arrived experts, he looked utterly wretched and forlorn.

The crowd watched in bewilderment, their hearts shaking.

Su Yi! He was a legendary sword cultivator, a transcendent figure! Who wouldn’t have recognized him?

Su Yi had spent the past year or so fighting in the Boundless Battlefield. There’d been practically no rumors surrounding him that entire time.

This had provoked widespread discussion.

But no one would have guessed that he’d appear here in the Hazy Sea Forbidden Zone, or that he’d be so badly injured!

“Don’t tell me that the grand battle that destroyed the entire region earlier was Su Yi’s work?” someone murmured.

“That’s entirely possible!”

“Doesn’t that mean that Su Yi… is now at his most vulnerable?”

The way these new arrivals looked at Su Yi shifted subtly.

This was a legendary figure, the common enemy of every god and Buddha beneath the heavens, and he was on his last legs. Who had injured him so badly?

If they seized this opportunity to attack him, might they get lucky and manage to seize the Epoch Spark and power of reincarnation?

But although they felt the temptation, no one dared to try anything.

A man’s reputation was like a tree’s shadow; it didn’t arise without reason.

Su Yi’s reputation was just too dazzling and extraordinary. No one could keep track of how many Master Gods had died at his hands since his return to the God Domain.

Even if he’d been in far worse condition, and far more vulnerable, ordinary people wouldn’t dare to provoke him!

Su Yi noticed these new arrivals, but he couldn’t be bothered to spare them so much as a glance. He just continued on his way.

His gait was neither fast nor slow. He was just walking; it didn’t even qualify as shifting through space.

The experts saw all of this, and their minds raced once more. Don’t tell me he’s too injured to fly properly? If not, why not leave immediately?

After all, if they had any strength to spare, who’d reveal their incomparably severe injuries to the public like this?

The atmosphere was stifled and oppressive.

None of the gathered experts dared to act recklessly., but as Su Yi walked into the distance, they followed, albeit from a distance. None dared to draw near.

Like maggots sticking to rotting bones.

Just as Su Yi predicted, the smell of blood had attracted flies that just wouldn’t go away!

A tiger in the plains was bullied by dogs.

Although Su Yi’s situation wasn’t as bad as that, seeing all the “flies” following him made him feel a bit strange. Even those pathetic little flies too weak to take a single hit dare to follow me. It’s obvious how dire my injuries must look to them.

Su Yi shook his head, disregarded them, and continued on his way.

Along the way, more and more experts were drawn toward the disturbance. Some came alone, while others came in groups.

Without exception, they reacted just as the first group had. None dared attack, but all of their minds raced. Wherever Su Yi went, they trailed after him from afar.

That aside, they each sent word to their respective factions, explaining Su Yi’s current situation in detail.

The news spread rapidly across the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent through various channels. Soon, everyone knew that Su Yi had caused those strange phenomena beneath the dome of heaven!

They knew he was badly injured, too, practically on the brink of death.

And once you plucked a phoenix’s feathers, it was inferior to even a chicken!

When word spread, it provoked a massive uproar. Countless factions took action.

Even the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent’s top factions dispatched their forces!

Su Yi had anticipated all of this, and he paid it no heed. He just continued on his way.

A vast crowd followed him from a distance, and as time passed, it grew larger and larger. It was soon quite a spectacle.

They were cautious on account of Su Yi’s reputation, so none of them dared to attack recklessly. They were all as cautious as could be.

But as more and more people showed up, everyone felt the pressure of a larger pool of competitors, and the experts tailing Su Yi started to get agitated.

There was just one fatty lamb, but the hunters were rapidly increasing in number. The competition was sure to be fierce. Who wouldn’t have been anxious?

Suddenly, a shout boomed throughout heaven and earth, and a tall, grand figure dressed in long purple robes appeared out of nowhere. He emanated the characteristic power of a Greater God. “Please wait, Your Excellency Su!”

“Zhang Xinglie!”

This new arrival was instantly recognized. He was a heretical cultivator of the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, and he made his home in the inhospitable wilderness.

“Your Excellency Su, I’m willing to guide you safely out of here!” Zhang Xinglie clasped his fist and said solemnly.

The crowd trailing after Su Yi stirred.

“Those who offer unsolicited kindness harbor ill intentions. Demon Lord Zhang must have ulterior motives for offering his aid!” someone said with a cold laugh.

“Pipe down. Let’s just see how things develop,” said someone else.

The situation was far too complicated, and there was far too much competition. There were an enormous amount of factions involved, and that was still just what was visible on the surface.

There was no knowing how many more people were targeting Su Yi from the shadows.

Given the circumstances, those without reason to be confident wouldn’t dare to get involved.

Su Yi glanced at Zhang Xinglie. “If you want to help me, go kill those irritating flies. Prove your sincerity, and I actually wouldn’t mind giving you a chance to serve as my dog. If you can’t or won’t do it, then scram.”

He wasn’t the least bit polite.

Zhang Xinglie’s face reddened, and the veins bulged on his forehead.

The group following Su Yi from a distance wanted to laugh, but when they heard Su Yi refer to them as “flies”, their expressions darkened. He was insulting all of them, too!

“I came here out of admiration for your reputation, hoping to help you resolve your difficulties and soothe your worries, only for you to turn around and treat me like this! I’m deeply disappointed!” Zhang Xinglie gnashed his teeth, his eyes flashing with fury. “Your Excellency Su, given your situation, aren’t you worried…”

Boom!

A streak of sword qi exploded in midair.

Zhang Xinglie, a Greater God of the Heretical Path, shattered into pieces before countless astonished gazes, his body crumbling into ash.

A single slash, and a Greater God had perished!

This bloody spectacle shook everyone present. Everyone tailing Su Yi from a distance looked stricken. Many of them felt chills course down their spines, and they celebrated that they hadn’t recklessly taken action earlier.

Some of them even felt that their strength was insufficient, and they felt the urge to give up. They were seriously questioning whether they wanted to linger in these turbid waters any longer.

But it was then that Su Yi broke into violent, hacking coughs. His face paled, and he staggered on his feet. Blood gushed from the corners of his lips.

Everyone’s hearts stirred. Is Su Yi about to hit his limit? Otherwise, how could he become so weak after killing a Greater God?

He obviously isn’t acting, either. There’s no hiding the severity of his injuries!

“Your Excellency Su, are you alright? This old man has a bottle of divine recovery medicine. Please, accept it!”

An old man in a feather coat flew in from distant skies. He had an otherworldly air about him, and he looked at Su Yi with deep concern as he passed him a bottle of pills.

Yao God Yu Mu!

Many of the onlookers recognized him. He was a famed yao god of the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, as well as an Undying Realm Master God!

They said that he’d long since overcome his fifth Dao-Refining Tribulation!

As the pill bottle flew toward Su Yi, Su Yi stretched out and snapped his fingers.

Bang!

The pill bottle exploded in midair.

The moment it did, monstrous, blood-red, baleful light erupted from the bottle, like a cloud of blood-red light. It instantly enveloped the entire stretch of heaven and earth around Su Yi!
