First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2537 - Knocking, Crossing, and Entering

Chapter 2537 – Knocking, Crossing, and Entering

Su Yi continued drinking, entirely unperturbed.

Right from the start, he could tell that Xun Wuyuan and his cohort couldn’t possibly have hurt Wan Zitian so badly without help. After all, Wan Zitian had already touched the threshold of Destiny. Even if he couldn’t defeat Xun Wuyuan and company, he should have at least been able to flee.

All of this implied that the ones who’d helped defeat Wan Zitian had, at the very least, touched the threshold of Destiny too!

Off in the distance, Xun Wuyuan remained silent, his expression bleak. He’d obviously calmed down, and he didn’t act recklessly.

Time slipped by. About ten minutes later, Su Yi’s brow furrowed. He could tell that something wasn’t right here.

He looked at the distant Xun Wuyuan and asked, “You contacted your allies earlier, but you didn’t call for reinforcements, did you?”

“I didn’t,” Xun Wuyuan said expressionlessly. “Do you think… I’d be stupid enough to call them here to risk themselves?”

Su Yi put away his jug of wine. “What did you tell them, then?”

Xun Wuyuan snorted coldly and didn’t answer.

“You don’t have to tell me. I’ll just visit the Ravening Wolf Daoist Court’s spacetime forbidden zone and ask,” said Su Yi. He took a step forward and appeared just ninety feet from Xun Wuyuan. “Care to come with me?”

Xun Wuyuan’s eyes flashed with cold light, and he attacked suddenly.

A streak of black light flashed past, so quick that it seemed unbelievable. It crossed that ninety feet of distance in an instant, exploding right in front of Su Yi.

Boom!!

Flowing black light exploded, collapsing heaven and earth. The resulting destructive power broke through the formations covering the surrounding ocean.

Practically simultaneously, Xun Wuyuan shot beyond the formations.

This entire series of events happened in a flash.

Is Su Yi alright? Luo Qingdi and the others looked stricken. Xun Wuyuan had looked like a beast in a cage. Who could have imagined that he still had such a killer weapon up his sleeves?

The entire area had been eradicated by that strange black light. No one could see anything clearly.

Xun Wuyuan shot ahead at top speed, inwardly gleeful. Fortunately, I prepared a streak of Hidden Darkness Profound Lightning. Power like that is enough to destroy even a Half-Step Eternal! Even if Su Yi survives, he’ll at least lose a layer of skin!

Experts of his level naturally had no shortage of life-saving trump cards.

Hidden Darkness Profound Lightning was just one of them.

Earlier, he’d chosen to let Su Yi trap him to feign weakness. He planned to wait until Su Yi got complacent, then catch him off guard.

And there was no doubt in his mind that he’d succeeded!

Unfortunately, he dared not turn back to confirm this, as he naturally had no way of knowing how severe Su Yi’s injuries were.

Clang!

Suddenly, the clear, impassioned hum of a sword resounded throughout heaven and earth like the call of a phoenix.

It seemed as distant as the horizon, yet simultaneously mere inches away.

Xun Wuyuan’s hair stood on end. He suddenly flashed through the air.

Boom!

A swath of sword qi flashed into being, like a windstorm connecting heaven and earth. It sent Xun Wuyuan flying ruthlessly backward.

Before he could even steady himself on his feet, a large hand descended from the heavens, bringing with it enough force to suppress all things and restrict all Daos. It swiftly trapped Xun Wuyuan in place.

He fought back with all his might, struggling desperately to break free, but that large hand seemed like an unbreakable prison. His struggles were to no avail.

On the contrary, he was suppressed to the point that he felt he might explode. His skin tore, and throughout his body, countless bones and tendons snapped!

It was then that he saw Su Yi. His blue robes swayed around him, unmarred by even a speck of dust. He wasn’t injured in the slightest!

“You… aren’t hurt?” Xun Wuyuan’s eyes bulged in disbelief.

“You always have to be on guard for your enemies’ death throes. How could I not have been prepared for this?” said Su Yi. As he spoke, he closed his hand, restricting Xun Wuyuan fully and pulling him toward him.

Like a captured prey animal.

“But… But how did you catch up to me?” Xun Wuyuan obviously couldn’t accept this. The escape technique he’d used was incomparably mystical. It could instantly bore through time and space, free and unfettered. Even enemies of the same level could forget about catching up to him.

“I’m capable of paltry tricks like condensing space so that the ends of the earth are close at hand. My sword qi is unimpeded by distance,” Su Yi said casually. “Are you willing to accept your loss now?”

Xun Wuyuan slumped, then sighed. “The rumors are totally unreliable! If I’d known you were this strong, I would never have…”

His voice trailed off, but his regret and bitterness were readily apparent.

It wasn’t that he hadn’t prepared to take Su Yi down. On the contrary, they’d gathered all available information about his accomplishments over the years.

But even if you’d hit Xun Wuyuan over the head, he’d never have guessed that their intelligence was so unreliable. Su Yi was far, far stronger than the rumors suggested, and far more terrifying!

In truth, it wasn’t just him. Not even Su Yi’s allies knew just how strong he was, let alone the rest of the God Domain.

And the rumors circulating the world were outdated. They reflected the strength that Su Yi had revealed to the world several years ago.

He’d changed completely since then!

His cultivation base had reached the level of No Attachment, No Form, and he’d condensed a Heart Soul. These were powers he’d yet to reveal publicly.

“When you know yourself and your enemy, you’re sure to win. But you don’t understand me, and I know nothing about your Epoch of Sumeru, either.” Su Yi sighed. “To tell the truth, your performance today… has really disappointed me. I severely overestimated you.”

As he spoke, he carried Xun Wuyuan and shot into the distance.

Xun Wuyuan said gravely, “Are you really going to Ravening Wolf Daoist Court’s territory?”

“That’s right.”

“All I can say is, you sure are bold!”

Su Yi chuckled. “Why not take this opportunity to scare me and see if you can make me back down?”

His tone was utterly dismissive.

Xun Wuyuan laughed coldly. “What need is there to scare you? You’ll naturally understand the situation when you get there!”

“Is that so? I’m looking forward to it.”

It looked as if Su Yi were out for a casual stroll, but in truth, he covered ten thousand miles in an instant, almost as if he were teleporting. He looked like a beam of light flowing beneath the dome of heaven; no one could track him with their eyes.

“Just… just how high is your cultivation base, anyway?” Xun Wuyuan asked suddenly.

“I’m a Master God,” Su Yi said casually. “I’m still a bit away from the peak of the Undying Realm.”

Xun Wuyuan obviously didn’t believe it. “The Undying Realm, huh? What Master God could possibly be this strong?”

Su Yi said distractedly, “You’re right. There’s most likely no one else like me in this world. If there is… that just proves that the path I seek isn’t unprecedented or unparalleled after all.”

Xun Wuyuan’s heart shook. Unprecedented and unparalleled! Does such a path through the Undying Realm really exist?

Xun Wuyuan didn’t understand.

“What’s the highest level of expert found in your Epoch of Sumeru?” asked Su Yi.

“Eternals!” Xun Wuyuan said without even pausing to think.

Su Yi was a bit surprised. “Eternals?”

“That’s right,” said Xun Wuyuan. “But they’re a bit different from true Eternals in that they cannot step onto the River of Destiny, and thus, they cannot condense true Eternal foundations in the Grand Dao.”

It seemed that this was no big secret; he didn’t feel the need to hide any of it.

“So I could call them Half-Step Eternals?” Su Yi asked with great interest. .

“No.” Xun Wuyuan shook his head. “They overcame their Eternal tribulations and gleaned enlightenment into the mysteries of Eternity. All they lack is an opportunity to condense true Eternal foundations in the Dao in their vital source.

“It’s only on the River of Destiny that cultivators can sense the Eternal source energies corresponding to their destiny. Thus, it’s only there that they can condense true Eternal foundations!

“In contrast, Half-Step Eternals have yet to face their Eternal Tribulations, let alone condense Eternal foundations.

“Half-Step Eternals have indeed taken a step over the threshold, but their other foot remains outside the doorway. They’re… at most a bit stronger than those who’d just touched the threshold.”

According to Xun Wuyuan, those pursuing the Path of Eternity could be divided into three levels: those who’d knocked on the door, those who’d placed a foot over the threshold, and those who’d crossed the threshold but hadn’t yet condensed true Eternal foundations.

They were known as Those Who’d Knocked on the Door, Those Who’d Crossed the Threshold, and Those Who’d Entered the Chamber.

“Those Who’d Knocked on the Door” referred to Xun Wuyuan, Gu Huaxian, Jiao Mu, and others who’d touched the threshold of Eternity.

“Those Who’d Crossed the Threshold” referred to those like Di E, who’d taken half a step into Eternity.

“Those Who’d Entered the Chamber” referred to those who’d reached Eternity, but hadn’t yet managed to establish Eternal foundations.

True Eternals stood above these three levels.

These were the three stages dividing the Undying Realm and the Path of Eternity!

Prior to this, Su Yi had only understood the first two stages. He’d never heard of “Those Who’d Entered the Chamber” before.

But when he thought about it, it was actually easy to grasp. Ultimately, “Those Who’d Entered the Chamber” had proven their Daos and achieved Eternity without establishing the corresponding foundations. Thus, they were essentially False Eternals.

They were much like the False Gods of the Path of Divinity.

Su Yi pondered briefly. “Those in the Epoch of Sumeru cannot proceed to the River of Destiny?”

Had there been opportunities to enter the River of Destiny, Those Who’d Entered the Chamber wouldn’t exist, as they’d have proceeded to the River of Destiny as soon as they achieved Eternity.

“That’s right,” said Xun Wuyuan, a complicated look on his face. “Only those in epochs of the present day have an opportunity to proceed to the River of Destiny. Those of the past and future cannot.”

He paused, then added, “Were that not the case, why would we have spent so long preparing to enter the present?”

Su Yi understood. Those of alternate spacetimes were all from either the past or the present. When the natural order connecting the past, present, and future collapsed, it threw spacetime into disarray. This gave those of other spacetimes an opportunity to enter the present day.

They’d come here, not just to strive for chances to achieve Eternity, but so that they could proceed to the River of Destiny!

Otherwise, Those Who’d Entered the Chamber could forget about achieving Eternity in their lifetimes!

“Does that mean that the ‘patriarchs’ you mentioned earlier are among ‘Those Who’ve Entered the Chamber?’” Su Yi asked out of nowhere.

Xun Wuyuan said, “That’s right! Five of our founding experts have achieved Eternity, while five have become Half-Step Eternals. Those Who’ve Knocked on the Door… are even more numerous!”

Su Yi’s gaze focused. He was quite surprised. Ravening Wolf Daoist Court is but one of the Epoch of Sumeru’s three top factions, but its foundations are this terrifying?
