First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2577 - Killing and Burning to Enrich Oneself

Chapter 2577 – Killing and Burning to Enrich Oneself

Su Yi took out a jug of wine and had a sip.

More thoughts had occurred to him.

As a Heavenly Sovereign in possession of an Eternal Throne, Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu stood proudly over the entire River of Destiny. What treasure and good fortune hadn’t he seen before?

Why would someone like that be interested in a fragment of the will of the God Domain’s Will of Heaven?

Something wasn’t right here!

Back before the Dark Days of Legend first began, the Laws of the God Domain were fully intact, yet even then, Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu had somehow set his sights on a specific power of Heaven’s Will. He’d even placed his mark on it!

This unquestionably implied that Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu had been hungry for this power for a long, long time now.

Wasn’t it thus entirely possible that other Heavenly Sovereigns had acted similarly? Setting aside Heavenly Sovereigns, it seemed likely that other experts of the River of Destiny had marked fragments too.

Things are getting more and more interesting, thought Su Yi.

The whole situation reminded him of something. Wherever unparalleled medicines grew, it was all but inevitable that ferocious beasts would lurk nearby, protecting the medicine so as to harvest it when it was fully ripe.

The beasts had staked their claims a long time ago!

Su Yi went on to describe the fragment’s mysteries. Everyone present was visibly stunned.

“Just as I thought. The higher level a Fragment of Heaven’s Will one masters, the greater their hope of mastering the power of the God Domain’s chaos source, and by extension, the greater their chances of prevailing in the Battle for Order,” murmured the middle-aged Daoist.

“That’s not all. Acquiring a Fragment of Heaven’s Will lets once seek out and comprehend an epoch civilization’s chaos source. That increases one’s chances of achieving Eternity,” said Zhi Shui. “Simply put, Fragments of Heaven’s Will are inextricably connected to chances at Eternity.”

Something suddenly occurred to Su Yi. “Based on your estimate, when do you think you’ll be able to leave your spacetime forbidden zone and travel without fear of a backlash from the God Domain’s chaos source?”

Zhen Yang pondered briefly. “If the Dark Days of Legend continue to develop at this rate, it’ll be about a year before we can enter the world.”

“A year, huh?” Su Yi murmured.

That was a bit different from what he’d heard from others, but the disparity wasn’t big.

If they were right, it meant that a year from now, False Eternals would emerge from the God Domain’s various spacetime forbidden zones.

These included Zhen Yang, Zhi Shui, and the others from Five LIghtning Temple, as well as Lu Daoyuan of Ravening Wolf Daoist Court.

When False Eternals entered the mix, the Dark Days of Legend were sure to become even more chaotic and turbulent!

“Everyone, might I borrow this place for a while?” asked Su Yi. He planned to take this opportunity to refine all of the Fragments of Heaven’s Will he’d acquired.

The experts of Five Lightning Temple were all too happy to agree.

That very day, Su Yi and the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor took up residence here.

……

The God Domain, the Eastern Victory Divine Continent.

The heart of a desolate, enormous stretch of ocean.

Kaboom!

A fierce battle raged, splitting heaven and earth. Destructive power swept through the sky.

A vicious bird took to the skies, its wings like clouds blotting out the sun. It was locked in fierce combat with a group of Master Gods.

An ethereal woman in white stood in the distance, watching the distant sunset in a daze.

She was dressed like a man, her clothes whiter than snow. Her long hair was casually tied up, revealing a strikingly beautiful face with bright eyes and pearly teeth.

Her beauty was natural, unaffected, and transcendent, with an innate, amorous quality. Even just standing there casually, she was the most beautiful sight heaven and earth had to offer.

The battle raging in the distance didn’t affect her in the slightest.

She just stood there alone, silently gazing at the setting sun, her ethereal figure bathed in its mysterious light.

A while later, she suddenly raised her hand. A beam of light swept out, and the turbulent skies silently stilled.

The combatants on both sides of the fierce battle were frozen in place, like flies in a spiderweb.

The Master Gods were horrified, their souls practically leaving their bodies for sheer panic. Just what kind of existence is this woman? How could she have rendered us too helpless to even fight back?

The woman in white men’s robes walked over, stretched out her hand, and grabbed a Fragment of Heaven’s Will. This was the treasure everyone had been fighting over.

But none of the combatants could have guessed that such a terrifying variable would arise before they’d even determined a victor!

“This Fragment of Heaven’s Will has been marked by an Eternal. Even if one of you acquired it, it would only bring disaster upon you,” said the woman, her voice ethereal.

The Master Gods’ expressions shifted, their hearts suddenly full of irrepressible terror.

The mysterious woman in white had thoroughly intimidated them.

She was obviously close at hand, yet she seemed impossibly far away. None of them could see her features clearly.

Yet even just standing there, she filled the Master Gods’ hearts with helplessness, despair, and dread.

It wasn’t that they were cowards. This was instinctual terror!

“Never mind. Even if I explained, you wouldn’t understand.” The woman shook her head slightly. “Qing Chi, we’re leaving.”

She took a step forward and drifted off.

The ferocious bird swept its gaze across the trapped Master Gods and laughed coldly. “Bear this in mind. You survived today because you’re weak! To my mistress, you’re no different from blades of grass growing by the side of the road. She disdains to even kill you!”

Before its voice had even finished echoing through the air, the vicious bird beat its wings and shot off.

It was only after the woman and bird had vanished into the distance that the Master Gods discovered that the power restricting them had vanished. They’d regained their freedom.

“Who… Who was that woman? Why… was she so terrifying?” someone asked, bewilderment and terror written all over his face. He couldn’t even speak coherently.

“She was just too terrifying. I don’t even need to think to know that, had she wanted us dead, she could have eradicated us all with a snap of her fingers…” said someone else, pale and despondent.

They were Master Gods. What wind and waves hadn’t they seen before?

Yet the battle they’d just experienced had made them feel true despair!

“Tell me, do you think that woman was a true… Eternal?” someone ventured a guess.

The others fell silent.

It was hard to say!

The Dark Days of Legend had arrived. The natural order had collapsed, and the world was in turmoil. All manner of monsters were coming out into the open, one after another.

Things none would have dared even imagine before were now becoming a reality. Given the circumstances, who’d dare to say that Eternals couldn’t possibly appear in the God Domain?

“The God Domain… is becoming more and more dangerous!”

“I finally understand why they call this the Dark Days of Legend. Those once fleeting legends are now entering the real world!”

……

“Mistress, is that Fragment of Heaven’s Will something special?” The vicious bird, Qing Chi, had once again taken on the form of a tall, thin man. He trailed after the woman in white at a respectful distance.

“Mm.” The woman in white was, naturally, Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran, the sole ruler of the God Domain’s Age of Supreme Simplicity!

Her origins were shrouded in mystery, and her background was a riddle. When she and Su Yi conversed in the Ruins of Supreme Simplicity, even he was struck by her mysteriousness.

“A moment, please,” said Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran. She took out the Fragment of Heaven’s Will and inserted her divine sense.

“Impudent!” A bellow boomed throughout her sea of consciousness.

A moment later, she “saw” a figure standing there, a young-looking man in long purple robes.

More than his robes, his glittering golden belt was particularly eye-catching.

But Sovereign Venerate Ling ran could tell at a glance that this purple-robed man with a gold belt was just an imprint of the original’s will.

“Little girl… you actually weren’t affected?” The purple-robed man was obviously stunned, as his bellow had contained supreme Eternal majesty. It should have been able to shatter the soul of anyone beneath the Eternal level.

Yet the woman in white was obviously unharmed.

“Affected by what?” asked Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran.

“…” The man had nothing to say to that.

Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran said casually, “Why not try shouting again?”

The purple-robed man’s eyes flashed; he obviously found this strange. “Don’t tell me you’re from the River of Destiny?”

“I’m not.” Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran shook her head. “I attempted to achieve Eternity three times, but each time, I failed my tribulation. I still have yet to visit the River of Destiny.”

“You failed your Eternal Tribulation three times? How are you still alive?” The man in purple frowned. “Is something like that even possible?”

“Mm,” said Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran, as if it were perfectly obvious. She didn’t seem to find her situation the least bit unusual.

The man in purple gazed intently at her. “I don’t care who you are. I’ll just say this. Don’t entertain any thoughts of seizing this Fragment of Heaven’s Will, for if you do, you’ll bring disaster upon yourself!”

“You cannot kill me,” said Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran.

The man in purple couldn’t help but laugh. “You ought to face the unknown with awe and humility, little girl. Given my status, I have no need to threaten a junior like you.”

“Is that so?” asked Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran. “Are you someone impressive, then?”

The man in purple laughed and said calmly, “Killing and burning are the fastest route to wealth, and the path of cultivation has always been paved in corpses. I hail from the Eternal Heavens Domain. Ask around, and you’ll soon know who I am.”

Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran looked at the glittering golden belt he had around his waist, then said, “If you aren’t willing to tell me, I can’t be bothered to ask any further questions.”

“So you refuse to listen?” the purple-robed man said with a frown.

“Indeed,” said Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran. As she spoke, a clear beam of light appeared within her divine sense.

When it appeared, the purple-robed man’s pupils constricted; he seemed to have realized something. “You…”

Bang!

Before he could say anything, his figure shattered into countless pieces, then dissipated in a rain of light.

Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran acted like she’d done something so ordinary as not to be worth mentioning. She whispered, “You kill and burn just to enrich yourself. It’s obvious that you’re a villain.”
