Chapter 2578 – The Adjudicator of Life, the Qiongqi Mountain Lord, the Record of Divine Bestowal
“For you.” The woman in white didn’t even turn her head to look. She just tossed the Fragment of Heaven’s Will to Qing Chi.
“For me?” Qing Chi was instantly startled—but flattered, too.
“I naturally have means of achieving Eternity, and I don’t need to rely on such items to participate in the Battle for Order. You’ve accompanied me since I was little; it’s only right that I arrange an opportunity for you to achieve Eternity too,” said the woman in white as she continued into the distance.
Qing Chi stood there in a daze, looking at the Fragment of heaven’s Will. Waves of emotion coursed through his heart, and the rims of his eyes reddened as he thought back to his youth, and his years accompanying his mistress as she cultivated.
Still, he would never have guessed that she’d go out of her way to arrange a chance for him to achieve Eternity, or that it would come so quickly!
“Mistress…” Qing Chi caught up to her and was just about to say more.
“I have no desire for gratitude. Just take care of your own cultivation. That’s more than enough for me,” the woman in white said softly.
“Understood!” Qing Chi nodded firmly.
Suddenly, a burst of laughter emanated from over the horizon.
“You gave a supreme Fragment of Heaven’s Will to a subordinate? You sure are generous!”
A figure appeared out of nowhere accompanying this voice, a handsome young man in gray.
“And who might you be?” said Qing Chi, eyes flashing with cold light.
“You’re no match for him. Step aside and watch,” the woman in white said softly.
Qing Chi was surprised, but he nonetheless did as he was told and silently stepped aside.
“I’m quite interested in you,” said the young man in gray, looking the woman in white up and down as if he’d discovered an unparalleled gemstone. “If you’re willing, I’d happily grant you a grand stroke of good fortune and bring you to the River of Destiny to continue your cultivation!”
“I’m not willing,” said the woman in white, “And I”m not interested.”
The young man in gray. “Ah, but that’s because you don’t know who I am and where I came from.”
With that, he flipped his hand, and an ancient tome shrouded in chaos energy floated into the air. “Do you recognize this object?”
Had Su Yi been there, he’d have recognized it at a glance. That was none other than the Book of Legends, a Taboo Treasure!
But the woman in white just glanced at it before saying, “What exactly are you after?”
“This is a treasure considered unparalleled even on the River of Destiny. Come with me, and I’ll give it to you,” said the young man in gray. “How about it? Have you reconsidered?”
Qing Chi’s brow furrowed, and his expression darkened. He was quite ill at ease. This guy sure is brazen! What does he take my mistress for?
A Taboo Treasure, that’s all. He thinks that’s enough to make her leave with him? That’s nothing but the ravings of a madman!
But the woman in white wasn’t the least bit angry. She just said, “If you can help me solve the mysteries of this jade pendant, I actually wouldn’t mind going with you.”
As she spoke, a jade pendant floated into the air. It was black, smooth, translucent, and shaped like a phoenix feather, but a piece was missing from its edge.
Its front surface was carved with a flame totem, while the back was carved with a line of text. However, the text was worn and fragmented to the point of illegibility.
The young man stared at it for a moment. “Is the pendant important to you?”
“Yes.” The woman nodded.
“How about this?” said the young man. “Follow me to the River of Destiny, and I’ll help you search for leads.”
The woman in white was instantly disappointed. She put the pendant away, then said, “Forget it.”
The young man sighed. “Why was this necessary? I’ve always had extremely high standards, you know. You’re the first and only moldable talent I’ve discovered since I came to the God Domain. How could I bear for you to refuse my offer?”
The woman in white said nothing. She just turned to leave.
“Wait!” The young man’s smile faded. “A melon forcefully twisted off the vine might not be sweet, but I’m the type to insist on twisting it anyway. Try to leave, and I won’t be polite any longer.”
He might have sounded like he was kidding around, but the threat was readily apparent.
Qing Chi’s heart shook, and his hair stood on end. He could sense a terrifying, invisible pressure silently emanating from the young man, sealing off the entire stretch of heaven and earth.
“Why not go ahead and try it?” the woman said calmly.
“Alright, I’ll just have to try it, then!” The young man smiled faintly, then vanished into thin air.
The woman in white remained in place, barely moving, but her right hand shot up like a knife.
Boom!
Three hundred thousand feet of sky split open, creating a perfectly straight spatial rift. Turbulent spatial currents surged on both sides of the rift, and an avalanche of saber qi swept outward.
Beyond the three-hundred-thousand-foot rift, the handsome young man was forced back into view.
“Quite powerful for a single saber strike,” exclaimed the young man. ‘Again!”
As soon as his voice rang out, heaven and earth darkened, and a chain of the natural order bore through the sky, descending from the heavens and shooting toward the woman in white.
Dao Light burned like fire on the links of the chains, and dazzling, Eternal radiance rose into the air. It was terrifying beyond measure.
The woman in white furrowed her delicate brow, and a perfectly round, golden jade record floated over her palm.
Weng!
The jade record took to the sky, erupting with endless golden light. Countless mysterious, inscrutable markings rose.
Everything on all sides melted like candle wax!
Those explosively descending chains of the natural order melted before reaching the woman in white.
“The Record of Divine Bestowal!?” The handsome young man in gray was obviously stunned, his eyes flashing with horrifying divine radiance. “Just what kind of relationship do you have with the Qiongqi Mountain Lord of the River of Destiny!?”
A solemn look appeared on the handsome young man’s face. It seemed… he was utterly terrified of the Qiongqi Mountain Lord.
The woman in white disregarded the question and drew her fingertips through the air.
Boom!
The jade record’s eruption golden radiance shifted, whooshing toward the young man in a boundless flood. Wherever it passed, space itself melted!
The handsome young man took a deep breath, then turned to flee, not daring to linger.
He’d been scared off!
The woman in white didn’t pursue him. Instead, he put the jade record away.
She remained calm and detached throughout this exchange, ethereal, yet with an unparalleled, contemptuous majesty.
“Mistress, that guy seems to have realized something,” said Qing Chi.
“No need for concern. I know a certain senior from the River of Destiny, and the ‘Qiongqi Mountain Lord’ is merely one of his subordinates,” the woman said dismissively. “He figured that out, but it doesn’t matter at all.”
With that, she walked off. Qing Chi hurried after her.
……
Once the handsome young man had escaped, he sank into thought. The Record of Divine Bestowal! Don’t tell me that woman was a disciple of the Qiongqi Mountain Lord?
The Qiongqi Mountain Lord was a mysterious old monster of the River of Destiny. He hadn’t been spotted in a long time.
He was also a judge: a judge of fate and fortune, as well as its executioner!
Thus, others of the same generation called the Qiongqi Mountain Lord the “Adjudicator of Life.”
Yet now, a mysterious woman in white controlled the Qiongqi Mountain Lord’s supreme treasure, the Record of Divine Bestowal. How could the young man be anything but shocked?
After a while, he rubbed his face and murmured, “I have no idea how many old-timers from the River of Destiny have set their sights on the God Domain. Now, even the Record of Divine Bestowal has appeared here!
“I’ll have to be more careful going forward. At the very least, I can’t act willfully until opportunities arise in the Central Divine Continent.”
He shook his head, then turned and left.
He’d acquired a supreme Fragment of Heaven’s Will, too. His true body had set its sights on the fragment a long time ago.
With the fragment, he’d be able to enter the ruins of Red Pine Mountain when conditions changed enough to permit it!
In other words, to the young man, the supreme Fragment of Heaven’s Will was a key to the ruins of Central Divine Mountain’s Red Pine Mountain!
……
Atop a windswept river.
Xiao Jian stood with his hands behind his back, holding a yellowing scroll as he looked around and said, “This Fragment of Heaven’s Will belongs to me. Does anyone still object?”
A dozen or so terrifying figures stood nearby, their expressions full of uncertainty. When they looked at Xiao Jian, their eyes filled with deep-seated dread.
“Your strength is unfathomably deep, sir. You’ve convinced us all. Farewell!”
A few quickly turned and left.
“And what about the rest of you?” Xiao Jian looked at those old-timers who remained.
“We… would like to ask you your name,” an old man said in a quavering voice.
“My name…?” Xiao Jian laughed. “They call me ‘Su Yi.’”
Su Yi!? The old-timers were completely stunned. So, he’s Su Yi! No wonder he’s so terrifying!
“Ah, so you’re Sword Venerate Su. If only we’d realized that earlier!” said one of them. “We have only ourselves to blame for our poor eyesight,” someone sighed, now fully convinced of his defeat.
The remaining old-timers quickly turned to leave.
Xiao Jian couldn’t help but find this surprising. Su Yi’s name is seriously this effective in the God Domain?
A moment later, he laughed, shook his head, and set the matter aside, instead turning his attention to the Fragment of Heaven’s Will.
When he inserted his divine sense, a tall man shrouded in black firelight appeared. His skin was as fair and smooth as jade, and his eyes were like twin abysses. He wore a blood-red crown inlaid with lotus-shaped black jade.
“You want to refine this Fragment of Heaven’s Will?” asked the tall, powerfully built man, his voice rumbling like a thunderstorm. His presence was incomparably terrifying, like a lofty, unsurpassed ruler.
“You have a problem?” asked Xiao Jian.
The tall man said expressionlessly, “If you erase my mark, this treasure will naturally be yours. However, if you do…”
Xiao Jian laughed and waved the rest away. “I understand. You’ll consider me your enemy, right?”
The man frowned.
Xiao Jian said casually, “Then I’ll just have to see whether or not you’re worthy of becoming my enemy.”
Then, before the tall man could respond, Xiao Jian got to work.
A streak of sword qi exploded in his sea of consciousness, creating countless criss-crossing cuts.
The tall, powerfully built man instantly split into pieces, his head flying through the air. Xiao Jian took hold of it and whispered, “It seems… you didn’t amount to much, huh…?”
