GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2284: Doing Well Or Not.

Chapter 2284: Doing Well Or Not.

While Commander Isaac was chasing Bushwick, the nobles were fighting a war with the Church of Justice and were winning. This came as a surprise to everyone who heard about this, including the nobles.

The nobles couldn’t believe that they were beating the church of justice in every battle because they didn’t think they had such power.

Any noble with some knowledge about history would say that the power of nobles has fallen to a very low state. Even nobles who are ignorant of history and only know current affairs will remember that it was just recently that their king was taken from the palace and killed by a lamp bearer.

The disrespectful abduction of the king and the subsequent beheading of the king were almost 100 years ago. This might be a long time to mortals, but to godclads, it is just half of the lifespan of an epic godclad and one-fifth the lifespan of a legend.

Ever since that unfortunate event, the new king of the kingdom has been very quiet. He didn’t contradict the lamp bearers in any way and behaved sensibly for many years.

Everyone thought that the nobles in the kingdom of Wessex had accepted their defeat. This thought was confirmed anytime a noble was wanted by the lamp bearers for one crime or the other and the king didn’t speak up to defend the noble.

So very few people thought that the nobles would band together to defend Bushwick, and even fewer people thought that the nobles would win in their fights against the lamp bearers.

Many nobles were surprised when they heard the news of victory and had to confirm through private channels that the news wasn’t propaganda to fool people.

The lamp bearers were also shocked to learn about their defeat. But once someone explained the full situation, the defeat of the lamp bearers became understandable and even reasonable.

According to reports, rabies and a boil plague were spreading quickly through the front line. These two diseases are weak and don’t affect godclads at all.

Rank 1 godclads are completely immune to them. Even humans who are preparing their existence to assimilate rank 1 divine flesh can resist the two diseases to a certain extent.

But the two diseases are fatal to the mortals. Both diseases are deadly in various ways. Rabies has a short incubation time and kills the infected quickly, while the boil plague is slow to kill but spreads through the air, water, and contact.

Rabies kills quickly and violently, while the plague causes the infected to die in a slow, agonizing death as boils take over their bodies and dissolve them slowly into water and pus. Both kinds of death are bad, which is why the Church of Justice decided to help the mortals survive them.

The soldiers of the Church of Justice were dispatched to help the various settlements survive the plague. But while doing this, they encountered earthquakes, beast attacks, and many poisonings. This reduced their numbers and made them weaker.

These calamities also struck the nobles and their army. But the nobles had fewer casualties because they prioritized taking care of themselves. This gave them enough strength to attack the weakened lamp bearers.

All over the country, lamp bearers and mortals were dying in droves. Mortals were lamenting this and praying to their gods while the nobles were celebrating and throwing parties.

If the question of if the country is doing well is asked, the answer will depend on who was asked. Mortals and nobles will have completely different answers.

The lamp bearers know that the situation is very bad for them, but they still have hope that things will turn around. But Legion knows that things could become worse than they already are.

Legion doesn’t mind that things will get worse for the lamp bearers. In fact, they are looking forward to it. This way, the lamp bearers will become weak, and he will be able to steal more bloody hearts from them without much effort.

That aside, they have their own thing that they are dealing with. One of the matters they are dealing with is about their slaves.

They are thinking of getting their slaves to acquire more pathways in preparation for when they will become legendary slavers.

When they reach rank 7 as slave masters, they will gain the ability to use the abilities of their slaves. So the more divine abilities their slaves have, the stronger they will become.

One way to achieve maximum capacity for divine abilities is to increase the maximum number of slaves that they can. They can achieve this to a certain extent, but they will eventually reach their limit.

In order to maximize the number of slaves that they have, it will be best if their slaves have two or more pathways each. This way, they can have access to twice as many pathways as the number of slaves they have.

For the first option, all they need to achieve it is work hard in training. They are already doing that and can’t do more about it. This leaves them with the second option as the only viable option for growth.

They want to stuff as many pathways as possible into their slaves. Two pathways per each slave is good. Three will be even better.

But assimilating the divine flesh of another pathway is even more dangerous than undergoing the advancement to the epic rank. It becomes even more dangerous for epic beings to assimilate the divine flesh of other pathways because there is likely to be a clash of divine abilities in their bodies.

So this endeavor will be dangerous for their slaves. However, not only will this be very dangerous and lead to the death of their slaves, but godclads also have a maximum number of pathways they can have.

There is a hard limit that determines how many pathways each of their slave can have. So no matter how willing they are to put the lives of their slaves at risk for more power, they won’t be able to do anything if their slaves can’t assimilate more than one pathway.
