GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2323: Double Recruitment.

Chapter 2323: Double Recruitment.

Legion-10 continued, “As long as fate weavers don’t kill judges and lamp bearers personally, they will be able to avoid the curse of the Fire of Sin.”

Legion-4 said, “That could work. It would at least explain why they don’t want to expose their identities. But that also means that the five who joined the army and whose identities are known might be stupid for not hiding their identities.”

Legion-2 offered another alternative. “Maybe they are not stupid. Maybe they just don’t care. Like that walker who believes he can always escape or that assassin who is joining the war for revenge.”

Legion-4 insisted, “I still think it is stupid to join that war just because they think they can escape danger or because they want revenge. Walkers are not immortal and can be killed, so it is stupid to join that war. Risking one’s life for revenge is also stupid.”

Legion-12 said, “I can’t argue with that. But maybe what they are doing isn’t so bad. After all, the nobles are going to win this war.”

Legion-8 shook his head and said, “Legion-4 is right. They are stupid. Because we know that the nobles will win doesn’t change that. After all, they don’t know for sure that the nobles will win. So they are risking their lives without the certainty of victory.”

Legion-1 added, “Besides, even we who know that the nobles will surely win are not willing to join that mess. The fact that the nobles will win doesn’t mean that we won’t die during the war.”

Legion-3 sighed and said, “It is a shame that we can’t join this war and take advantage of it in one way or another. It is just too risky.”

While they were lamenting their inability to use the information they have to take advantage of both sides of the war, others were making fun of the people who signed up to join the war.

Unaffiliated godclads, or godclads who are not part of any large organization, religious or otherwise, don’t really have many reasons to risk their lives in a war meant to topple the influence and control of the Church of Justice over the kingdom of Wessex.

This is especially the case in Reinfield City, where the nobles already control everything with an iron fist. If Reinfield were to fall under the control of the Church of Justice, for many godclads, the change in leadership would just be a change from one dictator to another.

If the church of justice gains control of Reinfield City, the main change would be a reduction in the exploitation of mortals. That won’t affect many godclads.

Only godclads in special situations, criminals like Legion who want to be able to do anything, and nobles would be impacted by the Church of Justice’s protection of mortals. So for many godclads, there is just not that much reason to risk their lives in the war.

Even if they hate the church of justice, it isn’t enough for them to be willing to die. It is the nobles that need to do everything in their might to resist the church of justice, as it is their foundation of power that will come under threat when the church of justice gains influence.

Despite the very valid need for nobles to fight off the Church of Justice, the nobles of Reinfield City aren’t willing to risk their lives in the war. So many people found it comical that these same nobles want others to die for them in their war.

It wasn’t just Legion who thought the recruitment was funny. So it came to them as a surprise when the Mind Hunters began to recruit telepaths for the war too.

Legion found out about the recruitment of the Mind Hunters in the Mindscape. They still thought that the recruitment was funny, but they now thought it was absurd because many telepaths were signing up to join the war.

Not only did they think it was absurd, but they also thought the telepaths that signed up were crazy. This was because most of the telepaths who signed up were epic telepaths.

These epic godclads were confident in their prowess because of their possession of the Mental Armament divine ability and their ability to ignore physical power and damage the mind directly.

Thanks to Mental Armament, they thought that they didn’t have much to worry about. So they rushed to sign up for the war.

Legion didn’t think that their behavior was reasonable at all. As Legion-2 said, “Even if you are jobless and bored, there has to be a better way to spend your time than to join a war.”

Legion had always been suspicious of the Mind Hunters organization and the Mindscape. They were also suspicious about the true reason why these telepaths were signing up for the war.

Many telepaths said that the outcome of the war was important to telepaths. They claimed that victory over the Church of Justice would be of help to telepaths in resisting the persecution of the Church of Justice.

Legion will admit that the church of justice is persecuting telepaths. But they don’t see how fighting the church of justice will ease up the persecution. If anything, the church of justice should hate telepaths more.

The best that they can see that the telepaths will get from this war is safety in the kingdom of Wessex after the Church of Justice has been defeated and sent packing.

They don’t believe that telepaths will get anything better than this because the reason telepaths are being persecuted by the Church of Justice is because the god of justice hates the pathway. So as long as the god of justice is alive, the church of justice will continue to persecute telepaths.

Legion was also willing to admit that they were probably biased in their judgement that the temporary safe space in Wessex that a victory in this war will bring is enough reason to justify the sacrifice of so many epic telepaths.
