Chapter 2326: Defeat And More Defeat.
Chapter 2326: Defeat And More Defeat.
Even Commander Isaac didn’t want to kill mortals. The best he could do was jump over the mortals and avoid them. He would bypass the mortals and plunge himself into the ranks of the enemies directly.
This move helped him avoid the moral dilemma of choosing to kill mortals or not. But it separated him from his army and made him lose half of the power he could wield on the battlefield.
Commander Isaac was threatening on his own. But without an army to use Buff and Army Breaker divine abilities on, he wasn’t nearly as threatening as he could be.
He was a knight after all. He wasn’t a warrior or giant and wasn’t meant to fight alone.
As if things weren’t bad enough, someone was killing lamp bearers at the captain level and taking their bloody heart.
Captains are epic godclads. So this hunt for the bloody heart was costing the lamp bearers epic godclads.
These epic godclads weren’t dying in battle. This further reduced the already limited amount of manpower that the judges have in Wessex. It was as if the whole world was going against them.
All of these things worked to tilt the tides of victory in the direction of the nobles. The nobles were slowly and surely grinding away the judges.
If nothing changed, they would succeed in completely destroying the influence of the church of justice in their nation, and every noble will become free to do with their energy springs whatever they deem fit.
While this was going on, Legion finally got their hands on the fishing reel and the spirit gate that they wanted. The two items were not what they expected them to be.
The spirit gate was not circular. It didn’t look like what they thought portals or gates looked like. It was just a large stone pillar.
The stone pillar is not ordinary. This can be determined with just a glance.
There are runes etched onto the surface of the pillar, and the pillar itself is heavier than it looks. But no matter how weird they thought it looked as a gate to the spiritual dimension, the fishing rod was weirder.
The fishing rod was a giant wooden machine. It looked like a trebuchet in size and structure. But unlike a trebuchet, its function was to lift objects from the ground and raise them up, not to throw objects across a large distance.
The fishing rod had a large base that was advised to be secured to the ground and rendered immovable. A large pivotal arm was then attached to this base.
A steel rope was attached along the length of the pivotal arm. This steel rope extended to the hook at the end of the pivot and could be made to increase in length or be shortened by turning the pulley constructed at the base.
So in essence, the fishing rod was indeed a fishing rod. But it was the giant version of what a mortal would use.
This giant version is not to be carried and used by hand. It was to be attached to the ground and used in tandem with the spirit gate.
The size and strength of the fishing rod were such that they could use it to fish for whales. Unfortunately, it was too big for them to set up in their basement. They had to build a large warehouse behind their base to house it.
While their slaves were busy building the warehouse, they went to acquire the bait they would use. They had to be the ones to do this because they were the only ones who could access the Mindscape.
They can use any bait with the fishing rod. But the bait they use will determine what they catch.
The best bait has to be something attractive to a single target. That way, only the target will be hooked.
Once this kind of bait is acquired, one can then try to make it as attractive as possible. This way the allure of the bait will be great, and the target will be hooked as fast as possible.
The allure of a bait is very important, as it will determine the size of the area of its attractiveness. Every target within this area of attractiveness will be able to sense the bait and actively seek it out.
The spiritual dimension is very large. This size makes fishing similar to looking for a needle in a haystack.
This is why the allure is very important. The larger the area of attractiveness of a bait, the higher their chance of encountering and hooking the target.
In the case of Psychic Shriekers, the best bait for them are memory fragments. They would rush to eat memory fragments as soon as they sensed them.
What makes memory fragments so great is that they can be burned to create a wide area of attractiveness. The larger the memory fragment that is burned, the larger the area of attractiveness will be.
But what people complain about is that burning memory fragments consumes them. If there is no psychic shrieker in the area of attractiveness, then the memory fragment would have been burned for nothing.
So it is a matter of burning resources to get what they want. Legion was satisfied with it.
They were even happy that they could burn money to increase the attractiveness of memory fragments because other types of bait are more difficult to increase their attractiveness.
They also thought that it was a better deal to burn money to get what they wanted rather than enter the spiritual dimension themselves and risk their lives or the lives of their slaves for the psychic shriekers.
The only thing that made them feel a little bit disgusted was that the legendary telepaths were charging exorbitant prices for their memory fragments.
What Legion needed for bait were memory fragments containing random memories. Any memory would do, so the food and drink sold in the Mindscape would do plenty.
