Chapter 384: What Did You Do?!
Chapter 384: What Did You Do?!
“Woo!” (I’m back!)
The little wolf rejoiced as it respawned, observing its surroundings. A calm lakeside had replaced the dark underwater mermaid prison.
“Woo!” (What happened, how did we get—?)
“There’s no time. I need your sharp wolf senses. I need you to find her.” Jack summarized everything in a few instants.
“Woo?!” (She’s gone?! Sprigfield is under attack?!)
This was an emergency! The little wolf got to work, sniffing the air, the beach, the water, everything! It didn’t take long for it to sense two familiar smells.
The sweetness of Pumpkins and the briny scent of…
“Woo?!” (Oh no! 0_0)
That’s when the water behind them began bubbling, emitting massive mana that spread in the air. It was the Water Elemental Clone!
“Hehe, did you forget about our deal? I didn’t. Surprise, surprise, I’m here to collect!” Perverse joy filled the being’s eyes.
With Jack’s soul, it would be able to power up greatly and perhaps even manage to contest with the Original. Who knows what crazy possibilities this would open!
“Woo!” (Run, I’ll cover you!)
Moon Moon had barely respawned that it was ready to sacrifice itself for its master again, but the latter simply shook his head as he stepped forth to his death.
“You’re right: a debt is a debt.” He sighed, scratching the little wolf behind the ears. “It seems you’ll have to save her in my stead.”
What?! No! This couldn’t be happening! Sadly, it was. The elemental clone chuckled as he reached a hand, grabbing Jack by the head, and then he began sucking.
— Draining Sound! —
[Danger! Danger! Danger!]
[Elemental is Absorbing Your Soul!]
[You Will Be Unable To Play Infinite If—]
Jack turned off the notifications as he stared right into the clone’s eyes with a smile. Danger? What danger? That’s when the water being suddenly began shaking.
“Y-you, what the hell is this?! What did you do?!”
“Do? Nothing? You’re the one eating my soul right now….” Jack innocently shrugged.
It wasn’t his fault if his soul had a demonic attribute. It wasn’t his fault either if the clone hadn’t realized before. It definitely wasn’t his fault if the latter was vomiting non-stop.
“Y-you bastard! You tricked me! H-how did you poison your goddamn soul?! No matter, I’ll crush your spirit and absorb the raw mana. Then you’ll—” Heavy hurling.
Jack didn’t even bother replying. Such a process was pretty risky against someone that knew how to use the system features to the fullest.
“I’ll devour your— ARGGG!”
“Sure, buddy….”
What happened next almost made the little wolf feel pity for the water elemental. After almost puking its soul out, the water elemental finally stopped the absorption process.
Sadly, its nightmare wasn’t over. Even now, there were still remnants of Jack’s soul in his system, corrupting it from the inside.
“Are you alright? You seem in pretty bad shape.” Jack remarked with fake concern.
“I’m bloody dying over here! ARGGG!” The elemental was twisting on the ground in anguish, regretting ever making a deal with that scheming bastard.
“Hm, perhaps I can help. Want to make a deal?” Jack proposed.
Deal? A fucking deal?! He’d have to be a complete idiot to fall into this trap once again! There was no way that he’d ever— another bout of pain assaulted him.
The suffering was so horrible.
It was unending, it was crazy, it was…all his fault!
“Just kill me already! Then we’ll be done with it!” The elemental spat out.
“Kill? Are you sure you want to die? I mean, a clone would barely give any XP. And here I was going to propose a way for you to become your own person with freedom and all….”
Freedom?! Escape being a clone?! The Brave’s words were sweeter than honey and more tempting than any Mermaid ever could be. Was this even possible?!
“You think I can’t? You do realize that in a few days, I schemed against you, found a legendary treasure, and destroyed Mermaid City, right?” Jack whispered.
?!?
Destroyed Mermaid City?!
Only now did the elemental clone understand why many angry water people had passed by. No freaking wonder. Still, how the hell had he managed that?!
“C-can you really? Why should I trust you?”
“It’s not like I lied earlier. I really let you devour my soul. You’re the one that aborted the process. Besides, what you’ll do for me will also benefit you.”
Trust the man?
Yes —> Naive
No —> Foolish
What kind of dilemma was this?! Jack was akin to a mystery box, impossible to predict and yet full of tempting possibilities.
“Tch— Fine, but only this once. If you try anything, I swear I’ll—”
“Go back to daddy, I mean the original body, to complain?”
That…it felt so wrong said like that! In any case, the elemental could only grit its water mist as it listened to Jack’s plan, the latter quickly leaving under Moon Moon’s guidance.
— Sniff! Sniff! —
“Where the heck is she going?!”
“Woo!” (Super deep in the forest!)
What the heck was Pumpkin Girl doing there? Was she trying to get reinforcements for some reason? Was she heading for the fairy or the elves, perhaps?
’Please be the fairy. Please be the fairy!’ Jack kept wishing, hoping that she hadn’t gone to meet the elves. Who knew what they’d do to her if they learned she was his woman!
But the more they progressed, the weirder his expression became. There was something wrong with the forest itself as if a veil of darkness had fallen upon it.
They finally reached the elven entrance: it was still locked, apparently…
“Woo!” (The trail’s going this way!)
[Discovered Fresh Pumpkin Girl Traces!]
[They Lead Even Deeper In the Forest. Are you Ready?]
Had pumpkin girl reached the entrance only to swerve at the very last minute? Odd, very odd. Her traces were heading into bushes on the side, ones that were covered in shadows.
Jack followed the enthusiastic Moon Moon through the dense vegetation, the herbs so thick that it almost felt like they were trying to grasp him.
Then he froze.
Blood, bones, teeth, and urine.
There was also a body that seemed to be barely breathing, one he recognized instantly…
