MMORPG: Rise of the Peerless Pumpkinmancer

Chapter 393: Re: Timber City!

Chapter 393: Re: Timber City!

“He did what?!”

Rumors about what happened in the forest were already spreading like wildfire, improvised storytellers gleefully sharing it all.

How had a regular outing to get wood turned into 1) Finding legendary elves and 2) starting a war with them?! Many were already having headaches.

Some furious players were already petitioning, calling for Jack’s demise, but others were simply chuckling as they reveled in the tales.

“He waved his hand, and the shadow monsters charged at the—”

“Shadow monsters? Since when are there shadow monsters in the forest?!”

“Tch— Who cares about that! So he drove the elves to hide in their village, and then he….”

Jaws hung lower and lower as the man recounted the events. As the players were all shitting their slips expecting the shadows to turn and try to devour them, Jack had stepped forward.

Not only had he shielded them from the creatures, but he had done so much more. He had grinned at the elves cozily hiding in their barrier, spoken a few words, and created a miracle.

“I’ll forever remember it, the skeletons, raised from the ground as an army. They turned toward the pointy ears, and they—”

“They?!”

“Go on!”

“They …Gulp… they mooned them!”

Mooned? As in, they showed them their ass?! While many perverts would perhaps enjoy such a thing, it wasn’t the case for the prude and proud elves.

“I’ll forever remember their faces tinted red with anger and shame. To have “lower” lifeforms taunt them, and the shadows even join in on the fun….”

“Pfft—!” Stifled laughter erupted from many as their gaze looked for Jack. How the hell had he even thought of something like this?! But they were bound to be unsuccessful.

In fact, the one called the Demon King had already left the ruins of Sprigfield Town. He was traveling incognito amidst many players fleeing what would soon become a D.L. den.

“Woo?” (Why are we leaving already?)

The little wolf couldn’t understand. Didn’t they need to find Pumpkin Girl? Wasn’t she still somewhere in the Elf village?

“I realized something. Remember how the elves said something about an Evil Witch? I think they meant her. But they were so angry, so I don’t think they actually captured her.”

This meant she was probably fine, at least for now. Besides, invading the elf village to find her trail wouldn’t be easy. He’d let D.L. prepare while he focused elsewhere…

“No, for now, we’ll save the world!”

The two of them didn’t take long to reach Timber City.

The first thing they noticed was the refugees. Outside were a bunch of NPCs and players begging to be let in. They looked so pitiful, yet the power of a mob couldn’t be underestimated.

They had clearly seen the utterly destroyed gate on the way there. Many of its guards had even been tied up to long poles, totally naked and left to rot in the sun.

The second thing they noticed was the armed forces. Soldiers patrolled the surroundings as they warily eyed the destitute mob camping outside the city walls.

Third was the heat. It was so bloody painful! Even the sweat that would typically have drenched their bodies would instantly evaporate. Meanwhile, flames continuously erupted from one of the trial towers in the sky.

“Woo!!”

“Woo indeed, my friend. At this rate, the entire place will blow up.”

The two pushed the protesting crowd, all of them begging to enter. The more they pushed, the darker the looks they got from the surrounding people, not that they cared.

“Excuse me. Passing through!”

It didn’t take long for an incident to happen. Just as they were passing next to a lavishly dressed merchant, the latter turned toward them, enraged.

“Bastard! You dare push me?!”

“Sorry, sorry, but gotta enter Timber City, urgent business.”

“Enter the City? Pfft— Those idiots won’t let anyone in! The entire place has been in lockdown ever since the gate leading here was breached.”

“Oh? Is that so? Thanks for the info!” Jack’s radiant smile and gratitude took the man by surprise. He was still frozen as the pet and master duo headed toward the entrance.

Said entrance was wide open, the magical barrier not actually activated, but none dared come close. There were not only stern guards but also a clear circle on the ground filled with arrows and a few corpses.

Archers were at the ready, their expressions sending a clear message —> Come close if you want to turn into a sexy and very dead human porcupine.

— Whoosh! —

As Jack stepped to the very edge of the defense perimeter, many turned excited gazes his way. Another fool that would soon die!

“Halt! Turn back, or we’ll shoot you down!”

“I’m afraid I have official business in this place.” Everyone expected him to follow the clear order and flee, but Jack took a step forward instead.

The air turned heavy. Bows were already aimed at his heart, ready to claim his life the next step he took, yet he didn’t show any sign of retreating, his resolve very clear.

The previously angry merchant couldn’t help but be taken aback. How foolish this youngster was, but perhaps he really had a good reason to be here.

“Wait, wait! Don’t shoot just yet! Kid, come back already. Just wait like the rest of us. There’s no need to risk your life for—” The merchant tried to help.

Risk his life? Jack inwardly chuckled. How would the man react if he knew everything Jack had done to get the items in his inventory?

1. < Legendary Water-Generating Pearl !💧 (Tainted) > (Destroyed Mermaid City)

2. < Legendary Wind-Gathering Pendant !💨 (Disabled) > (Destroyed Tribe-Gather)

No, he was FAR past risking his life! Jack utterly ignored the well-intentioned man, turning toward the guard captain instead.

“Call your superior. Tell them that I’m here to solve their heat problem!”

“Heat problem? You? As if! Who the hell do you think you are?! Let me tell you. Even the Royal Seer couldn’t do anything about this heat!” Raucous laughter echoed all around.

By now, the guards had long considered this newcomer a fool. While Jack had a few dealings with the wealthy merchants of Timber City, he was relatively unknown to most.

What was he to do?

1. Make a scene?

2. Find a way to send a message inside?

3. Bluff using that one letter from back then?

So many possibilities…

Usually, Jack would have probably taken the low-key approach to get things done quickly, but this time, he decided to do things differently.

“Just send a message to the Royal Seer, telling him that—”

“Pfft— Do you think he even has the time to listen to your drivel? He’s an exalted being! Do you think he has time to waste with nobodies that want to meet him!”

Under the crowd’s gaze and the guards, anyone else would have long retreated. After all, it was humiliating, and some were already sending killing intent over.

“Fine, shall we have a bet? I’ll call for him, and he’ll come out for me.” Jack didn’t mind the gazes and even responded with a confident grin.

“Pfft— bet? What bet? Hahaha, nice joke! Sure!” The Captain was laughing his ass off by now. How naive could one be?! But what happened next made him choke.

Jack took a deep breath and…

“Royal Seer! I’m here to fix your mess! Come out of your shell, you uselessly decrepit old dinosaur!” His scream was so loud that it seemed to cover the entire City.

“M-madman!” This was blasphemy! The crowd instantly separated from Jack. They wanted nothing to do with him.

“T-the Royal Seer’s coming!” A soldier came running out of the City.

“About damn time!” Jack nodded, satisfied.
