Chapter 421: Playing Dead!
Chapter 421: Playing Dead!
Gasps echoed all around…
The poor lizards couldn’t stop staring at the raging flames.
More accurately, they couldn’t take their eyes away from the tiny lizard. It wasn’t even a meter high, was about as sturdy as a leaf, and was a malnourished blackish color.
But not of that bloody mattered…
— BURN! BURN! BURN! —
A newborn that knew magic already?!
“Don’t tell me. Their Soul Nectar was THAT potent?”
“No way! Even godlike Soul Nectar wouldn’t be that OP!”
“Yet, the spells were real, so how?! This makes no damn sense!”
At that moment, all eyes turned toward the event’s host. Shaman Tan’Hos, the later so shaken he even blanked for a second, but then he quickly moved forward.
“YOU… what are you?!”
So much power, so much intensity!
A certain Demon King was faced with the brunt of it all. Jack had barely settled into his new body, and he now had another challenge to make! An interrogation on top of it all?!
He was out of mana, quite tired, and under the gaze of countless lizards, Lizzy included, who was getting more worried by the second and with GOOD reason.
After all, this was what they were facing…
< Shaman Overlord Than’Hos! Lv 130! ☠🦎🩸>
This was a crazy lizard that would no doubt get to the bottom of it all. Hiding anything against him? Even Jack didn’t have any confidence! But that’s when he went ALL OUT!
Jack powerfully and very decisively… played DEAD!
Yep, why fight an overpowered opponent?
[Successfully Logged Out!]
[Eternal Unrest State!]
[Warning! Warning—]
“I know, I know. I could die…”
Or rather, the death chances were super high!
As he left his avatar on auto-pilot, Jack perfectly knew the risks. Anything that would happen afterward would rely on a bit of luck, but most importantly Lizzy.
“Don’t let me down, alright.’
He couldn’t help but chuckle as he pictured her anxious face. At that very moment, the poor lizard had to be going through an endless emotional roller coaster.
– The deal they had made
– The ambush from the shamans
– The relief of reaching the eggs
– The shock at picking the worst one
– Then the whole hatching, the goddamn inferno, and him leaving.
….
Poor Lizzy would be questioning the world so much, would be in so much shock, and so focused on the recent developments that she’d be unreadable!
Thoughts of their collusion? All gone! As for the end result, he could only pray at this point. He could only— but that’s when he heard LOTS of knocking in real life.
Jack removed the VR helmet, a smile blossoming on his face. Sitting next to him was a small plushie of a very cute duck character, one with a small sign glued to its wing.
You got this! Quack: Duck them all up!
*PS: I’ve left war rations on the kitchen table!
He quickly rose, hurriedly rushing to the kitchen. Milk, cookies, and yet another duck, one that seemed even cuter. Seeing this, a small chuckle escaped him.
“Thanks, Lilly. I’ll duck them all for sure!” But he had barely declared that the knocking on the door got increasingly intense as if someone was trying to destroy it completely!
“Coming!”
He opened it wide.
W-What was this?! A tall, dark, and very old gentleman greeted him. Gray hair, gray mustache, and steel glowing eyes… ones that seemed VERY unnatural. M-Modder?!
Jack felt his stomach twist, his entire body shivering.
’Won’t you die for me?’
QUACK!
QUACK!
QUACK!
A certain memory instantly resurfaced, one that had ended his previous life. He, who was always so composed, suddenly got ready to fight, his being tensing like a bow.
No, it wasn’t just his body. Even his aura demonically bubbled. Yet, seeing that, the man simply raised a steel eyebrow. “I’d suggest a knife…”
A knife, what? It was only then that Jack came back to his senses. He was subconsciously brandishing a half-eaten chocolate chip cookie like the sharpest dagger.
Scary? The scariest about it, was the addictive mouth-watering aroma that came out of it. As for the man before him? He was giving the most genuinely friendly smile ever.
This guy wasn’t like that bitch from his previous life. No, this guy was different, far different. He had kept an old appearance, and he could feel pain oozing out of him.
That’s when Jack understood, lowering his ’weapon’ as he sighed.
“Sorry about that. I’m just not used to mod—”
Jack never finished his sentence.
The man suddenly changed, going from friendly-looking uncle to extremely scary mafia boss, sending a certain device after Jack instantly: a freaking Silencer?!
Jack felt the air around him twist, and suddenly his vocal cords just refused to work, as all sound left him. And after stealing all sound from him, the man simply gestured inside.
’Bastard, you mute me, and now you want to visit?!’
Yet, the man only gave an apologetic gaze.
Jack sighed once more, gesturing for the newcomer to follow him inside. As he did, the man actually gave a relieved look, only to freeze half an instant later, horror on his face.
A certain youngster, one that should have still been affected by the silencer, had stopped a few steps inside the apartment, giving him a teasing look as he… spoke?!
“You coming, or you’re practicing being a doormat?”
“W-What How?! The Silencer?!”
A few instants later, a certain youngster and modder old man sat at a kitchen table, staring at each other in a weighty atmosphere, almost as heavy as the munching.
Nom! Nom! Nom! Nom!
Even now, Jack was happily eating?! Still, that didn’t prevent him from analyzing the man sitting before him. The silencer he had used?! It was the same as the Old Man’s one!
– He was from the hospital
– He was a modder
– He was here
Why here, of all places? On paper, the Old Man was merely a janitor. Sure, he had his past, which was slightly wilder than most, but that shouldn’t make too much of a difference.
But then there was some suffering in his gaze. What if he was here to tell them bad news about Lilly’s mother? What if her comma had taken a turn for the worse?
No, that shouldn’t be it! She should still be fine… for now. But what if he was here to convince them to give up? He wasn’t like Jack with knowledge of the future.
But while Jack was analyzing him, so was the man analyzing back.
And at this moment, his heart couldn’t fucking stop beating. He, who had long turned most of his body into a machine, was having a horrible time, even his mood regulator blown up!
This kid, he wasn’t normal. No, he was a goddamn freak! Not only did he know about modders, which wasn’t public knowledge, but he could resist the silencer?!
He had read the silencer report himself. There was a tiny flaw in the design, one that could technically be exploited in theory, but practice was something else entirely!
Then there was his initial reaction. Seeing his malfunctioning glowing eyes, he hadn’t just showed fear, but pure and unadulterated hate?!
As for the cookie used as a weapon? It should have been risible, yet why had the kid seemed so terrifying at that moment?! And what kind of memory had he seen to react like that?!
Also, why the hell were there so many duck plushies?! Thus, the staredown continued until eternity! …Or it would have had a certain ’Old Man’ not appeared.
He came home carrying a stack of groceries under his arms like a trooper, already calling out to his adoptive son.
“Jack, I saw your text. A visitor from the hospital, was it?”
But as he saw the man, his eyes bulged crazily.
“D-Director?!!….”
