MMORPG: Rise of the Peerless Pumpkinmancer

Chapter 422: D-Director?!

Chapter 422: D-Director?!

“D-Director?!!….”

The Old Man’s exclamation was akin to thunder in… never mind.

Hearing this, Jack didn’t even raise a brow. He simply kept munching on cookies. So this silver modder guy was actually the director of the Hospital? That explained a tiny bit.

Yet the atmosphere remained utterly strange, a certain director once again inwardly gasping. In those dark eyes, he saw intelligence coupled with so much confidence.

The kid had understood who he was. He just didn’t give a damn, simply awaiting calmly. Seeing this, he addressed the Old Man himself. “Mister Log—”

Groceries were powerfully dropped, cutting him short…

“Hehe, there’s no need for formalities, not between us. What brings you here, director?” The man who had been flustered a second ago was suddenly showing so much strength?!

Why wouldn’t he? He would have bowed deeply had this been back at work, but this was his home. Here, he would bow down to no one— less to the weight of his own debts.

But now that Jack had taken care of this….

“Feel free to speak freely!”

Or so he said, but hidden behind kind eyes and a genuine smile were hard inflections. The man better have a good reason to disturb the peace of his home… and that he did!

At this moment, the director couldn’t help but ponder his next words.

It had all started very recently at a certain hospital…

“Goddamnit, are we saving patients or filing forms?!”

“Hey remember, science is science because of it.”

“Still, do we need 14 pages per patient!”

“Are we healers or novelists?!”

“It’s the damn law…”

In a certain break room, LOTS of doctors couldn’t help but grumble endlessly as they went through dozens of files manually, as they stared at the source of it all resentfully.

On their tablets glowing with so much data…

And because of this goddamn thing, they who were usually easy cruising and relying on AI to fill everything now had to not only fill but sort their own shit?! Talk about preposterous!

Hearing them complain, a certain director passing by couldn’t help but chuckle seeing their state, even gently offering: “Should I get a certain janitor to help with motivation?”

That’s when all complaints died down, the doctors akin to the happiest workers in existence, all gesturing that they were good, fear flashing in their eyes.

A janitor? A very friendly janitor, to boot. Back then all he had done was morally support them, yet before they had realized it, a bunch of them had ended up at the ER!

With that memory still vivid, they all waved in protest:

“T-That, there’s really no need to disturb him!”

“Yep, we got this for sure! It’s his day off!”

“He took a day off?! Good for him!”

“He better be with his family!”

And that’s when all the conversations died down, as they all felt a pinch in their heart. Family, right… his wife was still here in a coma. They all got back to work hurriedly.

In the complete silence, the only sound that could be heard was the typing as the doctors organized the files. But then there was suddenly the craziest scream.

“H-HOLY SHIT?!”

“Hey, language, I know it’s a lot of work, but…”

“NO! You don’t fucking get it! Holy fucking cheeseballs with motherfucking gravy on top. This… how’s this possible?! She got out?! No, it’s a different patient, but…. WAIT WHAT?!”

Out of the fucking blue, a doctor who was usually extremely composed was suddenly swearing like a sailor stranded on an island of utter disbelief.

His bulging eyes couldn’t stop staring at the tablet in his hands.

“Brother, what are you rambling about? What—” a colleague started, only for his eyes to land on the tablet, too: “FUCK ME! Fuck me with whatever you want: just let this be real!”

A few seconds later, more and more doctors approached….

“It can’t be?! Are you sure those readings are recent?!”

“They fucking are! And if not for the update…”

“Fuck, we would have totally missed it!”

“QUICK! Call him, call everyone!”

The shouts were so loud that even the Director already leaving heard them. What was happening with his staff?! But he had barely returned when he saw MADNESS!

He had seen casinos less hectic!

Doctors? They looked like addicts! Their hands trembled, their bodies shook, and they were even drooling in shock as they kept staring at the screen?! He hurriedly checked it too.

And that’s when 60 years of practicing medicine failed him.

The graph before him and the vitals it showed were ones the director was VERY familiar with. Wasn’t this the file of the wife of a certain Janitor? But then he looked at the name.

Lilly O’Neil… Lilly?! Wasn’t this the daughter’s name?! With trembling fingers, he pulled out two data sets. But as the AI quickly processed it, he soon forgot to breathe.

[Lilly O’Neil — Illness UNKNOWN!]

[Olivia O’Neil — Illness UNKNOWN!]

[Illness Comparison — 100% MATCH!]

“When the Hell was that?! Wait, that’s not important right now! Oh god, don’t tell me?!” In the file, there was a clear “Cured” tag. He stared at everyone around with an eagle gaze.

“Who cured her?! Speak up, you’re in for a Nobel prize: or ten! That’s an Unknown AND incurable illness! Wait, that’s right, there should be records of it: let’s check them!”

With the director’s authority accessing camera footage was child play…

A weathered but still vivacious middle-aged man.

A resolute youngster giving a princess carry.

A gorgeously unconscious girl.

Then there was the army of doctors that had escorted them to the lab, only to leave them in the very capable hands of their colleague, one directing countless tests.

At first there had been clear worry on his face. What if what she had was the same ailment as her mother? But it had been WAY too soon to arrive at such a conclusion.

Hopefully, everything would be fine, right? A certain youngster seemed so convinced that he even forced the old man to take a break as he alone stood in the hospital room.

And that’s when IT happened…

All the youngster did was put his hand on her… but what was up with the flash of green and purple light in the room?! What was up with all the cameras shattering?!

More importantly, what was up with the lingering audio?!

“Morning. How was your nap?”

What the actual fuck?! At this moment, the doctors couldn’t help but stare at one another in shock. Had they just witnessed a miracle?! Actually, why hadn’t they known about this?!

But that’s one finally realized…

“Fuck, it was classified as exhaustion?!”

“But what about the tests that came after?!”

“Ah?! Wait, that was Bobby’s case, and he got transferred!”

It wasn’t that there hadn’t been any follow-up: the case had been resolved so quickly it had fallen into bureaucratic cracks! Yet, this changed EVERYTHING!

“I’m leaving!”

The director ran out.

This wasn’t just a potential medical discovery, but potentially a cure for his favorite janitor’s wife?! Running through the entire city like a young punk, the rest was history.

A certain Director couldn’t help but feel stressed as he sat at a regular kitchen table. He had the feeling of having found a door to an entirely unknown world.

He wanted to run tests on Lilly.

He wanted answers from the youngster.

He wanted knowledge so much yet hesitated.

Under Jack’s gaze, he didn’t feel like a director at all. Why did he feel like he was back at the Academy? Also, who the fuck ate ghost peppers with milk and cookies?!

But staling wouldn’t do anything….

“~Mister Director, please speak already. I’m quite busy, you see.” Jack carelessly remarked, the goddamn silencer still activate even now?! Yet, even he couldn’t help but get serious.

The director was already grabbing charts with a name displayed at the very top: <Olivia O’Neil!>, only to drop a bomb on their small family.

“I believe she can be cured….”
