Chapter 463: Found a God?!
Chapter 463: Found a God?!
Waves were suddenly made…
[Ding! Third Legion Wiped Out!]
[Not a Single Third Legion Member Remains!]
[Update: There are 11 Legions Left! Good Luck!]
It was akin to lightning on a clear day! Wasn’t this way too fast? One had to know that the alliances had just been made, and yet there had already been an all-out war?!
But it was even worse for the ones in the know. The alliances? They were all against the 12th Legion, so how the hell had the third Legion fallen when it was still up?!
Yet there was a group that ignored the message entirely…
“C’mon, we have to kill that bastard fast!”
“As soon as we kill it, we rush to base!”
“Its bloodline will let us EVOLVE!”
A group of 12th Legion members were diligently hunting a “super-secret” monster, not minding any possible scouts, just like they had done before!
They were facing a lava-like ox with a mane of fire at the moment. This thing had adapted to the place and, while it was made of flesh and blood, had high fire resistance!
And it was bloody using it as much as possible!
It would jump in the air with its sturdy legs and then… BASH! Head-butt its enemies and ground alike, a small geyser of fire exploding out of the ground.
“Goddamnit! This one’s fiery: get the hell out!”
“Gotta keep running! One hit and it’s over!”
“Great going! Keep exhausting it!”
But what it had in resistance and explosive power, it lacked in brains. It took them a solid 15 minutes, but they eventually managed to kite it till it was dead!
And as the creature lay at their feet, intense relief bubbled inside them! Hell, they barely took a few minutes break before grabbing the carcass to leave, but then—
“Hehe, you guys screwed up big time!”
“This is 6th Legion Territory!”
“Leave it and SCRAM!”
As soon as they saw the enemies “stumbling” upon them, the 12th Legion members cried in despair as they left their loot behind. Well, almost all of them.
Hidden in the monster carcass…
The putrid smell of entrails, the cramped space of a body, the fiery heat coming from the monster’s organs. It was agonizing, and yet a couple of lizards were enduring it!
The chosen 12th Legion members had trouble breathing and barely managed not to puke their guts out, and yet their eyes had never looked so breathtaking.
’Do it for the apples!’
’Do it for the 12th Legion!’
’Do it for the brightest future!’
At this moment, their brains kept replaying the scene they had seen in the Evolution Statues. They wanted power, they wanted freedom, but most importantly apples.
Perking their ears up, they listened attentively. Good thing their enemies were very vocal about their complaints…
“How heavy is this creature?”
“Hey, keep carrying, it’s a power-up!”
“Our base’s altar isn’t too far. Keep going!”
The carcass kept rocking, over and over, until it finally reached its destination. “Right here, leader? Should we really leave it right next to the altar? What if it dirties it?”
That was the signal! As soon as the 12th members heard that, they went! A cut in the creature’s belly, they emerged out of its stomach like flesh-devouring aliens!
WOOSH! They were so fast that the 6th Legion Members saw nothing but fire. They barely had time to gasp that the elite team was attacking!
They powerfully turned to the crystal and— WHAT?!
The crystal wasn’t anywhere near! No, it was all the way in the back, and for an instant, they showed the same incomprehension as their enemies, just in time for laughter to echo.
“Pfft— Did you really expect it to be that easy? Right after an elimination message?” Their leader wasn’t shocked. He was grinning instead.
That’s when they understood. The comment about “should we leave it that close to the altar”… it was the same voice! It had all been a deceitful lie to bait them?!
“Men, capture them! Do not let a single one escape!”
As the leader called, the 12th members ran for their lives! They were trying to go as fast as possible to this god-forsaken place! Seeing this, many rushed to intercept!
Yet, a second later, they instantly turned tail!
Them running away? It was all a fakeout! As soon as the enemies moved a bit, they rushed toward the crystal instead! As long as they could shatter it, it would be their victory!
They were akin to crazed berserkers!
They were akin to unstoppable juggernauts!
They quickly dodged defenders, reached the crystal, and—
Suddenly sank into the ground?! Under their feet, the ground stopped being solid and turned to a sticky, squishy goo that swallowed their legs whole! A mage here?!
With this, they were stopped a meter away from the crystal, despair twisting their features. They were so close, yet so far. But that was only the beginning, their leader approaching.
“I have to admit, that was VERY clever! That’s how the third Legion fell, right? Sucks that you all don’t have any ranged attack, doesn’t it? Oh well.”
He exaggeratedly sighed as he paced before them, giving them a taunting smile. But then he approached full of curiosity, peering into their eyes.
“Still, I’m wondering. For that bluff to work so well, could it be true? About the blood, I mean. Does it really give powers, or was that fake, too?”
Fake? It wasn’t! At that moment, their minds unconsciously went toward the scene of a certain white lizard using his own blood to give them amazing memories.
They even remembered his words as clear as day…
“Any blood works, the magic’s in the altar.”
The 12th members forcefully focused on something else, but their small shock and pause hadn’t escaped the leader who instantly saw through them!
“Oh? How clever to weave truth and lie together like that.”
Under horrified 12th Legion members’ eyes, he ordered his troops to bring the creature to the Altar with an evil grin. “Be careful with it, and test a few droplets first!”
This was so over! Not only was their mission a failure, it was a critical failure. They not only failed to destroy the crystal, but had even caused their enemies to power up?!
They who were valiant beyond belief suddenly teared up.
“We came so close, yet we couldn’t succeed.”
“Scaly, please protect the 12th Legion!”
“I’m sorry, Sir, please forgive us!”
They knew death would come. They would soon be offered slavery or death, and they would obviously choose the second! They had grown to love freedom too much!
With heavy emotions, they watched the result of their failures. The creature’s blood filled the bowl with a soft magical glow ensuing, the same one as back then with Jack!
They knew what was to come…
“Hehe, I can SEE! New memories!”
“This thing’s amazing! With this, we’ll win!”
“Hehe, Let’s see anyone stopping us now! We’ll be unstoppable! We’ll—”
The lizards had barely started drinking from the Altar when it began. Suddenly, the once peaceful blood started bubbling and even boiling with Mana?!
It was as if the Altar itself was rejecting the blood?!
“Men, check what’s wrong with it! NOW!”
“Leader, I can’t approach?! Too much energy!”
“It’s going crazy! What the fuck?! Ask the prisoners!”
The latter stared equally shellshocked. What in the tarnation?! This wasn’t anything like it had been with Jack. It was one thing to ask them, but who were they supposed to ask?!
[Warning! Meddling With the Altar is Madness!]
[No Mortal Can Handle Such Godly Power!]
[You Successfully Fucked UP!]
“….”
That’s when pandemonium happened.
The entire 6th Legion ran left and right in panic, the few 12th Legion members feeling like they were about to lose their minds. No mortal? What about a certain white lizard?!
But before they could even wrap their heads around it, the blood started exploding, Mana erupting crazily out of it! And then… KACHA!
The Altar exploded, rock shards flying all over the place! Time seemed to freeze as one of those shards just happened to fly toward the crystal, embedding itself into it?!
It was just piercing it from side to side?!
1… 2…3… it was still standing?! Had they lucked out?! Could it be that the 6th Legion would live?! Could it be that… KACHA! As if to troll them, it finally shattered.
[The Sixth Legion Have Lost Their Core!]
[Sixth Legion Now Eliminated!]
[You Have 5 Minutes!]
Just like it had happened to the third Legion, the sixth Legion members fell to their knees, their power already leaving them. And they too started begging!
“Please save us. We’ll fight alongside you!”
“Please don’t let us die here, we’ll do—”
“ENOUGH!”
As they were crying their hearts out, a weak yet weirdly powerful voice echoed, one that came from the leader, his eyes glowing like the sun.
“Please tell me one thing before I die…”
At this moment, the same curiosity he had shown before filled his gaze. “Where did you learn to act?” He asked but quickly found himself gasping at their confusion.
The blood thing? It hadn’t been a trick. Or rather, it had been the most elaborate trick ever. Their leader had tricked them! He had known they’d possibly fail!
A trick was hidden inside a trick, and who knows if even more was hidden underneath?! What kind of prescience was this?! The despair at dying was suddenly replaced by awe.
Yet, the awe quickly gave place to something else.
That’s when he bowed, and he truly meant it.
He bowed as deeply as a lizard could:
“Please let me meet him!”
And as if worried that this wouldn’t convey his feelings well, he erupted with a torrent of words. “Enslave me, burn me, eat me, scalp me, boil me, whatever! Just let me meet him!”
That’s when the 12th Legion felt silly for the first time.
All this time, they had done it all for the apples.
Yet, how could they have been so blind?
Apples? They had found a god…
