Chapter 469: Release the Kraken!
Chapter 469: Release the Kraken!
The battlefield roared…
There were so many of them, way too many.
As the 12th Legion holed up in the recently conquered 9th Legion base, they felt like they had entered another world, the fiery red Lizardgeddon long turned blood blue!
The air was heavy, the bloodlust heavier, and the cloud of death towering above them the heaviest. At this moment, anyone sane would have long been begging for their lives.
Sadly, they weren’t sane, not one bit…
“Look at them! Cowards banding together!”
“Trying to intimidate us? Huge waste of time!”
“Invincible army? All I see are dead lizards walking!”
They really were dead lizards walking, no matter what. They were already dead, inwardly, for they didn’t believe in anything. They were merely soldiers wanting to dominate.
THEY were different. They had a dream, they had goals! And every time they glanced in the distance where a certain white lizard still fought, they felt invigorated.
“Men, get ready, they’re coming!”
“Crush all those bastards!”
“You CANNOT die here!”
Along with that shout, the battlefield billowed. A gigantic wave of soldiers rose, one eager to destroy them all! On their faces were evil grins and fiery rocks in their hands.
In the back, a certain 7th leader cackled mysteriously…
“Let’s turn this wall into an inferno, shall we? Good thing we found those in a flaming behemoth’s nest. All it takes is a little pressure, and they’ll go BOOM, hehe!”
He watched his troops charge like a legion of death, quickly grabbing their weapons and throwing them at the top of their arms. For an instant, there was a perplexed silence.
“What? They’re throwing rocks?”
“Are rocks usually that red?”
“FUCK, MOVE!”
A few 12th Legion members didn’t evade in time, the weird red rocks landing right at their feet. So much Mana! Were those flames in them?! What kind of — BOOM!
The explosion reduced many to pieces.
Then it got worse, the inferno following.
The ramparts? It had become a death zone!
All their dreams and hopes and dreams burned along with their mortal flesh. As for the epic clash everyone had been expecting, it seemed like it would finish that quickly!
The 7th Leader cackled once more…
“When faced with unexpected situations, lizards act on instinct. Half will cower in fear, and half will jump off the ramparts, only to be devoured alive! This is already over…”
The evil glint in his eyes was so bright that a few “generals” next to him couldn’t help but shiver in fear. But just as they were getting freaked out by his cackle, he suddenly choked!
Back on the wall, the 12th Legion showed its madness!
Amidst the death, a certain lizard jumped in shock. Fight? Run? Neither was an option! If only there was a way to shoot those things down before they reached them. If only—
That’s when his vision went blank.
The incoming projectiles? They disappeared.
The Legion of Enemies? They disappeared.
The incoming doom? That, too, was gone.
He was suddenly transported to another world, to a scene he had never seen yet still felt familiar. This place was a quiet cabin in the woods, quiet smoke coming out of the fireplace.
Cozy, tranquil, and peaceful. This was a memory, wasn’t it? Yet why was he here? He didn’t know, but it had to be related to the weird black box sitting in a corner, right?
But as he was confused, the thing lit up!
[Ding! Are you Ready To Go Hunting!]
[Tu-du-du… Ultimate Duck Hunt!]
[Prove Your Mastery!]
The black box had now turned into a screen that showed endless weird birds flying all over. What was he supposed to do about that? But then he noticed the weapon.
Sleek, silver, and mighty. For some strange reason, his lizards brain told him ’pick it up and shoot already’ and so he did. With this, he managed to shoot a few on-screen ducks!
The vision was weird. The vision didn’t make any sense. And yet, a lizardman quickly lost himself in the task. He’d complete it and find out why his god had sent him the vision!
Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!
Time lost all meaning as points kept tracking up on the screen. The lizardman wasn’t even good, but he was giving it his all! And just as it seemed to be endless, there was a change.
“Jack! You can’t hole yourself here! Goddammit, Worlds are happening right the fuck now! Are you trying to be disqualified?! Helicopter’s ready, so hurry up before—”
The vision stopped.
The battlefield returned.
The fiery rocks were still flying at them.
And seeing them, he smiled. “Thank you, Great White One, for showing me the way!” He bowed from the bottom of his heart but quickly got up. He had work to do.
“Everyone, time to DUCK HUNT!”
And that’s when it happened. All the ones who had drank from Jack’s blood suddenly had their eyes turn glossy for half a second, only to regain their senses an instant later.
But this time, they were different! The fear and the confusion were already gone. All that was left were lizards convinced they had just received divine enlightenment.
“Duck hunt? Those are like phoenixes!”
“So what? We’re the 12th Legion!”
“Hunt them to extinction!”
As for what happened next….
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! The 12th Legion didn’t hesitate to throw literal pieces of their new base at the projectiles, making them explode in mid-air!
Of course, a single vision didn’t make them elite snipers, but it had removed all their hesitation. They KNEW what to do, and that’s all that mattered!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Even as they did their best, a few explosive rocks still made it through, turning the ramparts into a crazed inferno once more, but somehow, it made it worse?!
Crazed lizards laughed as they moved to the few remaining safe spots, the inferno the perfect backdrop for their madness! They all seemed like they had been possessed!
“Is that all you have?!”
“Keep throwing!”
“Hehehehehe!”
Hearing them cackle, many shivered.
’Can’t you see all that fire?! Can’t you smell your burnt flesh?! Can’t you see all the dead already?! Can’t you see how many we are?! Can’t you see—’ WHOOSH!
The attackers were actually the ones freaking out?! And as they did, their aim wobbled quite a fair bit until it finally happened: a bomb flying way too far!
It mightily lobbed in the air, none bothering to intercept it.
It mightily reached the inner courtyard, exploding.
It mightily woke up a slumbering beast.
“ROOOOARRRRRR!”
That’s when the 12th Legion grins turned utterly demonic, one finding the perfect sentence for the occasion in his “memories”. With a laugh, he gestured toward the main gate.
“Release the Kraken! Or whatever that damn thing is.”
It was time for a rampage…
