MMORPG: Rise of the Peerless Pumpkinmancer

Chapter 470: Gate Breached?!

Chapter 470: Gate Breached?!

The assault raged on…

“Keep pushing! Burn them all!”

“Today, we defeat the 12th Legion!”

“Kill all those bastards! Let this be their grave!”

The Anti-Jack alliance couldn’t have been going stronger. But just as their attack intensified, there was suddenly a change on the battlefield.

First came the earth-shattering sound of steel grinding, and then the gigantic fortress gate actually opened by itself. Seeing this, endless cheers resounded amongst the assailants!

The gate opening could only mean one thing, right?! They were expecting a waving white flag to express their enemies’ capitulation. Except, something else came out.

“SKREEEEEEEEE!”

A creature of nightmare appeared.

It looked like a crossover between a gigantic toad, a troll, and perhaps even a—SLASH! As a claw impaled the nearest soldier, all thoughts of describing the monster evaporated.

And as the creature went on a bloody rampage, panic instantly started spreading; the terrified shouts even louder than the creature.

“Nooo! Help me, I’ll— CHOMP!”

“Go away, foul beast! You won’t— CHOMP!”

“Just run, it can’t eat all of us at— CHOMP!”

It was a nightmare, with all eyes stuck on the scene of the massacre. Or almost, a certain 7th Legion Leader instantly waved a commanding claw.

“Legion one and ten, bait it away! Everyone else, focus on the gate, and I mean EVERYONE!” He shouted the last part so loudly that even the creature almost paused in shock.

He pointed toward the gaping gate…

As long as they could enter right now, they’d win. But he wasn’t the only one thinking that, a bunch of 12th Legion members already turning deathly pale.

“Close it! Close the damn door, or we’re screwed!”

They hurriedly worked the gate’s mechanism as a torrent of enemies rushed at them. The latter were akin to unforgiving rapids ready to shatter their frail bodies.

“Push! Push! Push! Push!” Never had lizards worked a door that fast! In fact, they were so full of adrenaline that they would have given Hulk a run for its money.

The heavy gate slowly closed, and— CRACK?!

Just as it was about to close completely, the lever they had been pushing suddenly snapped in half. And that’s when everything changed for the absolute worst.

“Goddamnit! Screw the lever. Bring that gate down manually if we have to!”

They worked it like it owed them money. They weren’t just grabbing it but were instead bashing the poor gate with all their weight behind it. But that’s when it happened.

Cackling, a few enemies threw themselves under the half-open gate with enough killing intent to terrify a psychopathic dictator. And that’s when the massacre spread inside.

The poor 12th Legion Members faced hell.

They had to leave the gate to defend themselves, but enemies were pouring in by the second. No matter what decision they made, it would be the wrong one.

Even as they fought for their lives, they found themselves begging.

“Oh, Great White One, give us a sign!”

“There’s too many of them!”

“What are we supposed—”

One’s prayer got interrupted by a crazed attacker gleefully swinging a gigantic rock. He couldn’t wait for the fool to be squashed under his attack.

“Hehe, lizards will fly before you’re saved!”

He powerfully— SPLATTER!

Before he could deliver the killing blow, a miracle happened.

Or rather, a foolish lizard on the ramparts had just lost his footing, tumbling to his death and somehow landing perfectly on the attacker and squashing him to death?!

Yet this was no victory.

The “savior” was in horrible shape. His limbs were bent the wrong way, his chest was caved in, and all his orifices were bleeding from the trauma of the fall. It was BAD!

More importantly, it hadn’t changed anything.

One-for-one wouldn’t do anything here.

They were still doomed.

The only thing they had left was despair, the attackers rejoicing knowing that their victory was close! But just as they were savoring it, the 12th Legion went insane.

A certain lizard gasped in shock…

“Ah?! Could it be? Was that a sign from the Great White One? It HAD to be! Twelfth Legion, answer my call. You’re all needed to clean a mess at the gate!”

Needed at the gate? How would they…. Oh god!

That’s when it began. The ramparts trembled, and so did countless hearts as lots of lizards suddenly decided to commit suicide all at once!

“Hehe, I’m coming for you!”

“Two splattered lizards coming right up!”

“Two? Imma get five of them with my body!”

What madness was this?! Flying lizards, for real?! For a beautiful instant, they were soaring akin to majestic suicidal dragons. And seeing this, the attackers simply ran.

Why would they stay there to die when they could just get out of the way? Without even an afterthought, they rushed back outside the gate, knowing the thing was stuck anyway.

Now, they’d just wait for the countless splatters and they’d counterattack! Any second now, the lizards would crash and die. That would be the perfect timing for the assault!

Any second now…

Any second now for sure…?

Any second now and… what?!

Just as they were getting impatient, the 12th Legion Members finally crashed down, except they did it incredibly softly and without even a thud. How was this even possible?!

The attackers outside the gate felt their brains about to melt. Had they all become mages? No, that wasn’t possible unless— but that’s when they noticed their hands.

The suicidal 12th Legion members were carrying banners…

[Fortress of the 9th Legion!]

[Bow Before Our Might!]

[We Are Eternal!]

That’s when they finally understood. They had used the banners from the fortress to glide down from the ramparts and prevent any injuries? And they were now at the perfect spot.

“PUSH! PUSH! PUSH! PUSH! PUSH!” So what if the mechanism was broken? There was enough of them now to forcefully shut it all down with a little help from gravity.

CLANG!

CLANG!

CLANG!

With an echoing clang, the gate shut down.

With this, the fortress was once again secured, and the attackers were left standing on the other side with their jaws agape. What were they supposed to do now?!

The fiery projectiles? They were actually running out. As for taking down the gate? The thing looked so damn sturdy that it was depressing.

At this moment, they found themselves endlessly cursing…

“Curse you, 9th Legion! Couldn’t you bastards die quietly?!”

“No, they had to die AND give them a fortress!”

“And what’s with those fire-proof banners?!”

But they weren’t the only ones cursing. A certain 7th Leader was seriously getting incensed. Another failure. Yet another failure. He had to force himself to regain his confident smile.

“Actually, it’s fine. We really don’t need to take the fortress.”

Besides, the white lizard would soon die…
