MMORPG: Rise of the Peerless Pumpkinmancer

Chapter 471: The Last fireworks...

Chapter 471: The Last fireworks…

Back at the 12th base…

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

Explosion after explosion after explosion.

A certain white lizard was still operating the base’s magical defenses, his Mana running dry. But at this moment, even he couldn’t help but feel like swearing.

Every time he glanced at the System, he saw the same bullshit…

[Lizardgeddon Objective: Conquer!]

[Casualties: Insufficient!]

[Legions: Too Many!]

[Work Hard! ^_^v]

“What do you think I’m doing?!” He snorted, but that didn’t change the situation. Legions needed to be killed, and more lizards had to die overall. Time was running out.

Tik Tok. Tik tok. Tik Tok. With every passing second, the enemies made great progress. Their bloodthirsty selves were now about 40 meters away.

“We’re almost there!”

“He doesn’t have anywhere to run!”

“30 more meters, and we’re shattering that core!”

Seeing their quick progress, Jack finally rose. For an instant, it almost seemed like he was giving up, but then he suddenly released all the Mana he had been controlling.

And that’s when it happened…

[Warning! Chaotic Mana Released!]

[Warning! Control It Or—]

There was no or. It was already too late.

BOOOOOMMMMM!

The 12th base blew up. White lizard, core, altar, and defender alike all disappeared in a world-ending inferno! First, there was the heat, and then the explosion.

It swept the lizardgeddon like a rampaging Titan. It swept it like a leaf blower from hell, sweeping up dust. It blew it as mightily as a hooker on crack!

Jack especially felt it coming…

Even he wouldn’t survive that shit. His HP was already low from the previous fight, and now he had to resist this to boot? Worse, he had to protect his core!

But while he despaired, a couple of unarmed lizardmen on the ground cackled.

“Yes, yes, yes, DIE!”

“Hahahaha, you’re so screwed!”

“This is Scaly’s divine retribution!”

As the wave of fire flew at him, the lizardmen he had previously neutralized cackled evilly. They were so gleeful about his demise that they had forgotten where they were.

But that’s when he gave them a wink…

“Am I screwed? No, We ARE!”

Akin to the greatest of communist despots, Jack suddenly grabbed the hostages and… PILE! PILE! PILE! He started stacking them as if sandbags in the face of a flood!

The poor lizards, many of them limbless, suddenly turned almost as white as he was. No, no, nooooo! Horrified cries escaped them as Jack made a literal wall out of them.

Whether they wanted it or not, they were now a barrier protecting the core! But so what?! A second later, their joyful cackles echoed again.

“It won’t be enough! We’re all dying here!”

“Finally! Scaly, consume this heretic!”

“As long as he DIES too!”

They weren’t wrong, either.

Jack even peacefully closed his eyes as if expecting the end.

This shitty lizard’s body was far too weak. He lacked HP, he lacked Mana, and he even lacked skills. But there was one thing that still remained amidst all that.

The Lizardgeddon quivered.

The entire lizard world trembled.

The effect was sensed by many, their brows rising.

What was this?! What could it be?! Something was happening, but what?! They couldn’t tell, not with the ginormous explosion. It emitted too much light, too much energy, too much everything.

It was the perfect cover.

Everything seemed lost. He had lost everything, or almost. One thing was still the same. His SOUL. He was still Jack MF O! And that’s what he accessed at that moment.

[Warning! Accessing Your Soul Will—]

“It’s fine. I won’t tell if you won’t. Let them all watch. All they’ll see is a burning inferno!” He chuckled, not even bothering to look at the world-ending explosion.

[Ding! Forcefully Accessed Your Skills!]

[Ding! Forcefully Using Necromancy!]

[Ding! ERROR! Missing Mana!]

Even then, it didn’t change a thing. It wouldn’t matter if he was completely tapped out. He was akin to an old man wrung dry by a succubus. And yet he grinned as he chanted:

“I summon you, oh mightiest god of them all!”

“Let the power of BBQ flow through me!”

“Let the head pats carry my soul!”

The nearby wall of lizards almost lost their shit. What kind of silly prayer was this?! They were too confused to even comment about it. But then they truly lost their shit.

A god truly answered the call…

A phantom shadow suddenly erupted from Jack’s scaly body. Actually, no, it didn’t come from his body but from his soul. And it mightily answered his plea.

“WOOOO!”

What kind of poet god was this?!

The world stilled seemingly in awe of that awesome entrance, the ghostly Moon Moon already howling defiantly toward the incoming wave of deathly fire.

“Wooo! Wooo! Wooo!”

It called out twice, the last two laden with clear disdain. This puny fire wave wanted to defeat its mighty master? Didn’t it know that BBQ was their thing?

Would they fear a dumb fire that only knew how to destroy? No way! With one last howl, it focused, lending its strength to its master. That’s when a miracle happened.

[+50 Mana!]

[+50 Mana!]

[+50 Mana!]

Jack felt his body overflow with power. Mana, sweet, powerful, and addictive Mana. But he didn’t have time to dwell on it as he hurriedly raised a claw as he growled: “ARISE!”

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

The corpses he had used as deterrence before? They were even scarier now as they rose one after the other. And with this, countless skeleton lizards all took place, forming a wall.

“Who needs meat shields when you got undead shields? Now, HOLD!”

He braced himself, the captured lizards braced themselves, even the undead ones braced themselves a flash of panic showing in their empty eye-sockets.

At this moment, the only one that didn’t brace himself was Moon Moon. No, he was already disappearing with a wide and ever-so-silly smile on his face.

He had helped its master!

[Ding! Learned New Companion Skill!]

[Switching to Recovery Mode!]

[Cooldown 1 Day!]

It disappeared without a worry in the world. Whatever came next, its master would take care of it. And just like that, the fire wave finally hit them!

A wave that would have normally been way faster and less deadly had amplified and grown a thousand times over because of the way Jack had placed the traps.

It hit the skeletons. They all died, for real, this time.

It hit his shields, and they all turned to charcoal.

It hit him, and he died.

Or that’s what it felt like. The pain made him realize he was actually still alive. By the side, charcoaled lizards gazed at his broken body, trying to convey their last words.

“Necromancer! Necromancer!”

“Betrayer! Traitor!”

“HERETIC!”

They wanted to shout and scream. They wanted to out him for the sham he was. They wanted him to perish. They wanted justice, and yet they would get none.

Corpses everywhere. Enemies and allies alike. Even the great sieging army was left scattered and battered. How many members had they lost? Too damn many!

They’d eventually regroup.

They’d eventually come back.

They’d be too late to hear the dying lizards.

No one would get to know his dark secret. They’d see nothing but fire. Hehe, ironic. As a laugh escaped him, so almost did his soul. Breathing was torture already.

Still, he still had a few minutes before the lizards came for him. Sighing, he found himself staring at the sky, a fiery one that somehow still had stars in there, too.

What if the weird shit back then was true? What if his beloved was truly here somewhere? What if coming here had been a mistake? He didn’t know, but neither did he care.

He’d use those few last minutes he still had preciously. As he dove back into his memories, time seemed to still. Life was good, wasn’t it? He HAD lived.

With a smile, he gazed at the horizon, or tried.

“You guys. Did you see the fireworks?”

They had. He could feel it…
