Chapter 1658: Making Use of What’s Given
“…”
“…How long did it take you to forge all of this again?”
As his eyes widened in disbelief looking at the firearms Valyr had made, Byron took in a deep breath to compose himself as he asked the young man a question.
“You said it took you two weeks to complete the empire’s request?” asked the man for clarification. “You sure you didn’t complete part of it while working on that new firearm you showed me back then?”
“…If I remember, I made around three or four of the firearms that met the requirements while working on the flintlock.” Though the young man had told the truth to Byron in his message, Valyr eventually decided to make up a more believable lie on the spot.
After all, even with all the frustration he felt while forging those 10 firearms for the empire, the fact that it only took him two weeks to make all of those was still an absurd feat.
“Then, making use of the experience I accumulated while making those firearms, I forged the remaining firearms these past couple of weeks,” he continued, only to then shrug his shoulders as if what he did wasn’t a big deal.
“There’s no problem with the firearms, right?”
“…”
“Hello?”
“Ah!” Snapping back from his brief daze as he continued to stare at the ten masterwork-level firearms Valyr made, Byron closed his eyes for a bit to calm his thoughts before proceeding to use his identification skill on the firearms that would be sent to the empire.
’All of them meet the minimum grade,’ muttered the man to himself inwardly as he scanned his gaze over them. ’All of them also meet the minimum number of skills needed to be considered a masterwork weapon.’
Suppressing the immense shock he felt from having so many masterwork-level weapons laid out in front of him, the man eventually stopped his gaze on the firearm that radiated the strongest aura out of all of them.
’Legendary+ grade…’ thought Byron to himself as the screen in his mind reminded him that what he was seeing was indeed real.
’…As expected from the one who invented the arquebus.’
Closing his eyes once more as he closed the screen that popped up in his mind, the man let out a soft exhale before giving Valyr a slight smile. “No problems with the firearms at all. All of them meet the empire’s requirements.”
“Phew.” Hearing those words, the latter let out a wide sigh of relief. “Glad to hear that.”
Whoosh!
Taking out the writ he had obtained from Norggif out of his spatial bracelet, he then gave Byron a slightly questioning look. “I suppose I would need to give you this?”
“No.” Byron shook his head in response. “The writ is for you to keep as proof that you took up the empire’s request. The empire already has a copy of that same writ on their end.”
“So… that means I’m free to do whatever I want, then?” asked Valyr after that, which prompted the man to ponder over the question for a bit.
Eventually, the latter gave a slight nod.
“Pretty much.”
“However, considering that you haven’t fulfilled the additional request the empire asked of you, I have a strong feeling they plan on officially making that their next request from you.”
“I see.” Valyr nodded in understanding, only to then give Byron the 10 firearms he forged for the empire. “Now that I think about it… when will I get the rewards for completing the request?”
“Considering how long it took you, you’d probably have to wait around half a week at most,” replied the latter, stashing the firearms he received into his own spatial storage. “Of course, there’s no need to worry about them reducing your rewards. You have the writ, after all.”
“…And I think that’s all, no?” Making sure that the firearms he placed in his spatial storage were well-kept, Byron briefly glanced at the large pile of firearms to their side as he decided to part ways with Valyr for the meantime.
Though he was curious as to what the latter would do with all of those firearms, the man knew that whatever Valyr did with them was already beyond his scope of responsibility.
…Until the young man in question stopped him, that is.
“There’s still one more thing,” said Valyr in response to Byron’s question, prompting the latter to stop in his tracks.
Pointing at the pile of Epic and Epic+ grade firearms he had forged while working on the empire’s request, he looked at the man in the eyes and asked with a smile, “Remember how I said I planned on selling items through the guild’s channels?”
“Yeah?” Byron faintly nodded, only for his eyes to widen soon after as he put two and two together in his mind. “Wait… don’t tell me…?”
“What do you think?” Letting out a peal of laughter, the young man nodded in confirmation. “Though the quantity doesn’t match the figure I gave you the last time we met, I plan to sell all of these upgraded arquebuses through the guild.”
“…I should probably call them snaplocks to differentiate between the two.”
“How about those?” Feeling a hint of excitement at having the opportunity to handle cutting-edge weaponry, the man took in a deep breath to compose himself, only to then take notice of the large pile of armor sets situated at the far end of the workshop.
“They look like they could all fetch a good price.”
“They’re not for sale.” Valyr shook his head at those words, giving the man a wry smile. “Someone commissioned me to make them. They’re having someone come here and pick it up soon.”
As those words left his mouth, the young man reminded his other self to have someone pick up the armor sets he had forged, to which the latter responded that he would do so as soon as someone was available.
“I see.” Byron nodded at the young man’s words, the slight curiosity and greed he felt towards the armor sets having disappeared without a trace.
“Now that I’ve given it a bit more thought, I highly appreciate the fact that you’re giving the guild the opportunity to sell the latest kind of weaponry.” Shifting his attention back to the large pile of firearms, a thought related to them soon popped up in his mind.
“However, with how much of a difference there is between the arquebus available in the frontlines and the… snaplocks you’ve forged, wouldn’t it be better if you had someone from the Imperial Production Guild take a look at it?” he asked, causing Valyr’s expression to turn pensive for a while.
“Well…” Eventually, the young man came to a conclusion in his mind, prompting him to give Byron a look of slight doubt. “I don’t mind having someone come here to look at it, but…”
“Are you sure you wanna do this?”
