Chapter 2587: Plans for the East II

Adrian was honest when he said that they do not need to shower him or promise him anything. For him, the rebirth of the new Vermillion Bird of the South will be the best thing that they could give him. The revival of the Vermillion Bird of the South will strengthen the special barrier around the eastern continent. He has felt it ever since he arrived and received news that the Azure Dragon of the East and the White Tiger of the West have died.

“The stability of the eastern continent is now very fragile as if a seal that protected it has been lifted. I can feel the voices of the gods of death in my ear now more than ever. Usually, the eastern continent is where I can easily tune out their voices, but I am beginning to start hearing them as whispers. The most ones are the gods of death in the eastern continent as they know I can hear them easily now.” Adrian thought as the special restriction does indeed exist.

Just like what Adrian described, the special restriction in the eastern continent made it impossible for the gods of life and death to commune with the people here. Divine beings that are not divine beasts or natural divine entities are either sealed or cannot descend here. The eastern continent is really a land where the divine gods cannot trespass easily because their faith is towards the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts.

With three out of the four Cardinal Divine Beasts out of commission, the special restrictive barrier around the eastern continent started to become lighter as well. It is still not to a point where divine gods can descend unto the continent, but it is to a point that they could now send divine oracles to beings that live there. Usually, one needs a powerful medium or has chosen a saint to give an oracle but now they can just do it as long as they have a small group of followers.

“Even the God of Dreams Morpheus and Thanatos have told me that visiting the eastern continent is such a hassle for them. The gods of death related to the eastern continent even told me to raise temples here in order for them to do their job properly but now I know the reason why. The barrier that prevented the voices of the gods to reach people have been pushed back due to the power of the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts. They are the cornerstone of the barrier that keeps the influence of divine gods and now there is only one remaining.” Adrian stated as soon as the Shrine Maidens left to take care of the Vermillion Egg.

“You are correct, Mediator Equinox. The Four Cardinal Divine Beasts are the ones that hold be barrier that prevents the fallen divine gods to ascend to divinity. It also holds one secret as well which is why the last of the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts must never die.” Grand Mistress Nu Wa stated as she waved her robes which created bubbles that swallowed them, and they suddenly appeared at the depths of the Dragon Lake Palace.

When the bubbles faded, all of them are inside a room where the depictions of the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts are etched in their respective directions. To the North, a large black tortoise with a snake tail coiling its blacked shell could be seen. To the East, a large serpentine azure dragon with storm clouds and rain is depicted. To the West, a gigantic white tiger that makes the earth tremble and all the minerals rushing out of the ground. To the South, a large fiery crimson bird that is born with flames and also blazing like the sun.

“These carvings are so cool and intricate!” Peridot stated as she has yet to actually see this place of the palace. She thought that she has seen every nook and cranny of this place, but it seems she was wrong.

“It also depicts some of the lives of the ancient people of the eastern continent. It seems that there have been Immortals back then as there are illustrations of beings that could fly with swords.” Levin Cloud stated.

“Those are not ancient immortals. Those are the fallen gods themselves.” Grand Master Fu Xi stated which shocked both Levin Cloud and Peridot because there are numerous depictions of them.

“We are also part of the depiction there because we were the first Divine Immortals of this world after all. It was us that have imparted the knowledge of Transcendence to the mortals.” Grand Mistress Nu Wa stated.

“I see. No wonder they could become Ascendant Immortals easily. I was actually shocked by the number of demigods here in the eastern continent that I thought this place was bugged. It now makes sense why there were thousands of gods in the eastern continent.” Adrian stated.

“The thousands of gods depicted here are just the number that became many, but not all mortals have the talent to ascend to godhood after all. The chance for a mortal becoming a Divine Immortal is a million to one. That small chance is also factored in if that mortal could ascend properly which makes the chance really one in ten million.” Grand Mistress Nu Wa stated.

“From the depiction here, it seems that the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts have been alive back then and living happily with the other gods. How did it suddenly change?” Peridot asked as she only knew that the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts became the new divine beings after the gods fell.

“The large depiction of the Huang Long should be an answer to that.” Adrian stated as he pointed to the large depiction of a yellow dragon at the very center of the room.

“Your insight is correct, Mediator Equinox. The fall of the eastern gods started when the Huang Long, the very center of the eastern continent and its true divine protector, was corrupted.” Grand Master Fu Xi stated as he injected mana into the surroundings and the walls shifted as if they were showing the entire story right before their very eyes.

“Back then, the Huang Long is the true leader of the eastern gods and is even called the Yellow Emperor. The Huang Long is one of the first dragon gods that have been born from the Mother Dragon Goddess Tiamat. The Huang Long is also the real ancestor of the Ryujin as it was its blood that formed the first ancestor of the race. You could say that the Huang Long is our grandfather, and it is also the reason why the Ryujin are the ones keeping the peace of the eastern continent.” Grand Mistress Nu Wa stated.

“If the Huang Long was truly powerful then how come it got corrupted?” Peridot asked.

“The Huang Long was indeed powerful, but it also came with a golden heart. A heart that loves to give trust and respect. One of the gods back then had their wife die due to an attack from a distorted god. The Goddess Izanami was the one that died back then but her divine soul became slightly twisted which made her unable to truly vanish.

The distorted god that did this to the Goddess Izanami made a deal with the God Izanagi. If he were to let the Huang Long drink from the miasmic essence, then the distorted god would erase the taint from the divine soul of the Goddess Izanami which will enable her to revive. One would think that the God Izanagi known for his loyalty to the Huang Long to refuse but he accepted, and he actually succeeded in feeding the yellow emperor.” The Grand Master Fu Xi stated, and Grand Mistress Nu Wa continued.

“The deception of the God Izanagi plundered the Huang Long into despair as it was not poison or miasma that was fed to the latter. The thing that was fed to the Huang Long is the essence of that Distorted God and it slowly corroded the mind of the once peaceful and powerful yellow emperor. The other gods rose in revolt as the actions of the Huang Long differed from the norm and we also questioned it.

The only problem is that we have questioned it a bit too late because the Huang Long has been taken over. Not only did the Huang Long fuse with that distorted god, but the other gods also even sided with the new Huang Long as they were tempted by its offer. The other gods that did not think the same banded together and fought each other.

This is when the event called the Rampage Across the Heavens happened. The gods led by the corrupted Huang Long and the gods led by Sun Wukong fought against one another. It was a brutal fight where numerous gods, divine beings, and divine beasts have died. It was a very turbulent time for the eastern continent as everything was in chaos as it also affected the mortals.” Grand Mistress Nu Wa added.
