Chapter 684: Confronting Purists

Chapter 684: Confronting Purists

Inside a dark and confined room, there were these Vampires whose skin was as pale as chalk, and bodies as thin as sticks.

However, these weren’t normal Vampires.

Unlike the dignified and respectable look that most Vampires were known for, this group of eight were wearing bloodstained and untidied black robes. Their postures were bent and leaning on one leg as if they couldn’t support their own bodies.

And judging from the absent-minded looks on their faces, Michael would have mistaken them for a group of drunk men and women who had just come from a halloween party.

“That’s what happens when Vampires drink human blood,” Guillermo explained. “We lose all our reasoning, succumbing only to our base natural urges as if we’re some kind of rabid animal.”

Guillermo and the Drone stood inside the small recess of the walls, with nothing but dust and cobwebs around them.

They peeked through the cracks of the degraded wooden walls, careful not to expose their location.

Thankfully, the room was filled with old crates and boxes that obscured their faces from the walls.

“Are you sure those spineless suckers are done for?” asked one of the Purist Vampires.

“They’ll be out for a while. There will be no one to stop our plans,” replied a female Vampire.

“But there’s something wrong. I counted them all, but it looks like we were missing one person,” another Vampire interjected.

“Are you sure you didn’t count wrong?”

“I’m sure. There is one Vampire unaccounted for. I’ve searched the entirety of Metropolis, but they were nowhere to be found.”

This was a problem for the Purist Vampires, especially since they knew that only other Vampires could thwart their plans.

However, they were already too deep in it to stop now.

“Whatever. That guy probably fled Metropolis anyway. We’ll stick to our plans.”

Just then, one of the Purist Vampires walked over to the corner of the room and stood in front of a giant rectangular crate with a large blue curtain draped on top of it.

The Vampire removed the giant blanket, revealing the open-top crate inside.

Guillermo almost gasped.

Inside the crate were unconscious people, both humans and Mermen alike, stuffed inside like they were lifeless.

Thankfully though, they were still alive.

“It’s a good harvest of humans,” said one of the Vampires. “But why did you have to get those fishes as well? Why are they even here in the first place?”

“I couldn’t help it. When I ambushed these humans, these mermen accidentally saw everything with their own eyes. I had no choice but to take them with me.”

Their Purist Vampire leader approached the crate and observed the Mermen inside. “Why are they even here in Metropolis? Aren’t their parades still far away from today?”

One of the female Vampires knew the answer to that. “I heard there’s a lot of Mermen going to Metropolis to seek out a place called the ’Nation of Reform’ or something. What are we going to do about them?”

The Purist Vampire leader pursed his lips.

“We kill ’em.”

The other Vampires weren’t exactly on board with the idea, but it was clear that they had no problem with killing the mermen. They were just afraid of the possible repercussions.

“That’s dangerous. We could provoke the Mermen’s wrath if they find out,” said one of the female Vampires.

“It’s alright,” said their leader. “Once we take control of Metropolis, we’ll pin the blame on the humans. If all goes well, they’ll be killing each other while we roam free and drink human blood as much as we can.”

The other Vampires agreed with this decision. They were already salivating at the thought.

“Kill the mermen, don’t suck their blood. We’ll drop their corpses in the streets so there can’t be any evidence that it’s our doing,” commanded their leader.

And with that command, the other five Vampires approached the crate, their mouths curving up in bloodlust.

They raised their hands, with their nails suddenly growing longer and sharper by the second. It wasn’t long before their nails were as sharp as knives, making it easy to decapitate mermen heads.

Just as they were about to thrust their hands into the crate, the walls suddenly burst into an explosion as three distinct Unity beams shot out towards the Vampires at near instantaneous speeds.

Caught off guard, three Vampires were unable to escape fast enough as the [Unity Gun] pierced directly through their Dao Hearts, ripping it in half.

The three Vampires immediately shriveled up, with their skin becoming like raisins.

And as their Dao Hearts reached its limits, their bodies lost all of its integrity and they dispersed into mere dust and ash.

Just like that, three Purist Vampires were killed.

The Vampires immediately turned towards the wall, seeing two people emerging from the splintered woods.

One of them was their own kind, a Vampire, who looked at them with contempt, and the other was a human child with golden hair.

The Purist Leader glared at them. “How did you get inside?!”

They were so sure of their stealth that they completely let their guard down. And because of that, three of them were taken down in an instant.

“I didn’t think you guys were courageous enough to kill your own species,” the Purist Leader praised Guillermo.

Guillermo didn’t answer him. “You will pay for your crimes. The whole of the Vampire race will punish you for this transgression.”

The Purist Vampires laughed. “How can you even call yourselves Vampire if you don’t drink human blood? We as a species have grown so accustomed to drinking an animal substitute that it’s considered normal now.”

“If you had drank human blood like us, then you wouldn’t treat that boy beside you as an ally. You would treat him as a snack!”

Just then, one of the Vampires turned into a shadow and shot towards Michael at speeds that only those at the 4th level Dao could even see.

Michael reached down into his pockets and flicked an iron block into the Vampire.

And just as the Vampire’s sharp nails were about to hit his neck, his hands stopped in place.

The Vampire’s entire body was frozen in time.

Michael then took out his Unity Saber and swung it forwards, cleaving the Vampire in half, and with his remains turning into dust.

The other Vampires were stunned into silence, staring at the seemingly ordinary boy that was able to defeat a Vampire at the 4th level Dao.

They finally realized that this human was no ordinary boy. In fact, he was actually the one who killed the three of them before this!

Now, this boy had turned four Purist Vampires into dust just mere seconds after his arrival.

“You…,” the Purist Vampire said, staring at Michael’s face. “I know you. Your face is all over the human newspapers.

Michael Vanderbilt. The owner of the Reborn company. And a believer of the Iron Maiden.”

Michael’s eyebrow raised. “The Iron Maiden?”

The Purist Leader nodded. “We have scoured the entirety of Metropolis for this plan, and just a few days ago, we stumbled upon this new religion called, the Iron Maiden. And surprisingly enough, these believers were worshipping something called an automobile. It’s not hard to connect the dots.

You must be a believer of this religion as well, since you were so generous enough to donate them your precious automobile.

So… I have just one proposal for you. Join us.”
