Chapter 1035 - 1035: Cultural Shock
“1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.”
Evan counted again, confirming for the third time that he wasn’t imagining things.
He sighed silently, his fingers moving to tap the map legend. A sidebar slid in from the right, revealing a list of the continents and their details.
Alpha.
Beta.
Gamma.
Delta.
Epsilon.
Zeta.
Eta.
Theta.
Iota.
Lambda.
The average continent size was about 215 million km², though the individual sizes varied. From what Evan could see, the Alpha, Beta and Delta Continents he knew from future Aidos were smaller than they once were.
He pulled up the RHS system interface and crosschecked the data.
‘Alpha from the system archive is about 150.1 million km², but according to this map, it’s 162.3. That’s about 7% lost—no, destroyed.’
He looked at the map again and noted that the vast body of water the future Aidosians called the ‘Dread Ocean’ was where the ‘Gamma Continent’ had once been.
This meant the famed ‘Dread Ocean Islands’ were nothing but remnants of the destroyed Gamma Continent.
As for the other islands scattered across future Aidos’ oceans—where the majority of the battles between Level 700s and above during the Aidos-Demon war occurred—Evan quickly discovered that 40% of them were the remains of other destroyed continents.
But what hit Evan the hardest were the differences in the planet’s surface area.
From 5.4 billion to 4.9 billion.
‘That’s almost the entire surface area of Earth V. An entire planet’s worth of surface area, along with the mass and volume that gave it said area… was destroyed?’
He glanced at the small icon in the top left corner of the screen with a moon symbol, tapping it. The display shifted, showing details about the planet’s moon—from its dimensions to the regions, space stations in orbit, and colonies on its surface.
Leaving aside the fact that the current Aidosians had colonies on their moon, Evan could immediately see the stark difference in size between the current moon and the one from the future he was from.
‘Maybe the destroyed parts of the planet collided with the moon and eventually fused with it over time? The force also pushed its orbit further away.’
It seemed to be the most plausible explanation.
After a moment of contemplation, Evan let out a heavy sigh. Time Difference deactivated, and his perception of time returned to normal.
With that, he became aware of the four gazes on him from those around him.
“Dude, you okay?” Arthur asked, his concern obvious after Evan’s long silence.
“I’m fine, just sur—!”
Evan abruptly stopped speaking, his eyes widening as he suddenly realized something.
He had been feeling four gazes on him. But there were only three people standing nearby.
Where the hell was the fourth gaze coming from??
It didn’t take long for him to figure it out. All he had to do was look down at the ground.
“Oh, it’s you, ‘Aidos’.”
Naturally, his presence had not gone unnoticed by the Prime World’s Consciousness.
“Never had a Hero come from the future before?”
Evan asked with a chuckle, shaking his head, and then raised his gaze to meet Beatrix’s incredulous stare.
“What? Never seen someone talk to a planet before?”
Beatrix parted her lips to respond, but couldn’t find the words, so she simply closed them again in silence. Evan laughed, clearly entertained by her reaction, before adding,
“Don’t think too much about it. Just show me that strawberry place already.”
His gaze turned towards the double doors leading out of the room, sensing a few presences right outside.
“Shall we?”
When he said that, Arthur glanced down at the floor and muttered,
“It’s gonna be hard to enjoy sightseeing when someone’s constantly glaring at me…”
Recalling what had happened when they first went to Gozon, Evan quickly understood that ‘Aidos’ was none too pleased about Arthur’s presence on ‘her’ surface, and Arthur was feeling every ounce of that hostility.
“Relax, ‘Aidos’. He won’t be here long.”
Evan said, striding towards the door and opening it to reveal a line of servants standing at attention.
“Beatrix,” he called, turning slightly.
“Coming,” Beatrix replied, then strode up to the servants who bowed and greeted her.
“Hey guys, I’m gonna be here with my friends for a while. No need to assign any escorts or anything like that,” she spoke as though she were informing roommates about a change in dinner plans.
“We’re heading over to the Karrelis Region for a bit. Won’t be long—just until Uncle Jamie’s done with his business, so you guys can head back to your posts.”
The servants bowed in unison, acknowledging her words without protest, before quietly dispersing.
Beatrix then turned back to the group. “Alright, let’s go.”
With that, the four of them exited the building and stepped onto a teleportation platform stationed nearby. In a blink, it transported them straight to the estate gates.
From there, they passed through and finally stepped out into the actual city beyond.
As they entered the open streets, Evan momentarily set aside the differences between the present and future Aidos, focusing more on the cityscape around him, taking in the architecture and magi-technology level.
But Evan’s attention was quickly diverted to something that gave him the greatest culture shock of the day.
He spotted a store clerk stepping out to flip the ‘OPEN’ sign on the door, and as soon as he sensed the energy emanating from them, his eyes widened.
‘That guy’s a Living Legend.’
Looking around, Evan then spotted an elderly woman engaged in conversation with two others, and a quick appraisal revealed that they were all Grandmaster Realm existences. Meaning that these women, who looked to be in their 90s by Earth V standards, were likely over 500 years old.
As the group strolled through the bustling streets, Evan couldn’t help but notice that every adult civilian around them was at least level 400. Some even edged into the 500 range, and he spotted one man, level 600, dressed in a suit, entering an office building with a small crowd following him.
‘It’s like it’s not even the same planet.’
Evan just sighed as Beatrix led the way toward a teleportation hub nearby. As soon as she stepped into the building, five officers appeared in front of them, bowing respectfully to her and Artemisia, before asking for their destination.
This reception naturally drew quite a bit of attention, but Beatrix paid no mind to the curious gazes and simply stated the region they wanted to head to.
In no time, they were guided to a teleportation platform and whisked away in a flash of light, reappearing inside another hub where another set of officers were already waiting just outside the platform.
It was worth noting that they paid nothing for this trip—after all, Beatrix’s mother, Rilene, practically owned every teleportation hub on the planet.
After dismissing the officers, who looked ready to throw themselves into battle if Beatrix so much as hinted at it, the group stepped out of the hub building and into the heart of the city, the scents of fresh flowers and fruits immediately filling their nostrils.
A hovercar was provided for them without the need to even ask, and they quickly hopped in. The streets leading to their destination were lined with open-air markets and colourful boulevards, making for an eye-catching sight.
Eventually, they reached the place Beatrix had mentioned, a large building surrounded by vibrant orchards.
The moment they stepped inside and Evan laid eyes on the mountain of strawberries—rows upon rows of different varieties—he immediately vanished, only to reappear a few meters away with two floating baskets already filled to the brim.
In a flash, he zipped around the store, scooping up at least half the stock from every variety of strawberries he could find. He did grab a few other fruits, but even combined, they barely amounted to half the number of strawberries he was amassing.
Faint whispers followed him as he darted from shelf to shelf.
[…he’s fast…]
[I want strawberries too…]
[He’s taking the good ones!]
One spirit, braver than the rest, called out in a tiny voice from behind a nearby crate.
[…hey! The oranges on the top right shelf—they’re the ones that arrived this morning! Take those!]
Evan heard it and, without a word, reached up, picked an orange from the shelf, and casually tossed it over his shoulder. The spirit caught it mid-air with a delighted squeal and scampered off to join a crowd of other spirits peeking out from behind the shelves, chattering excitedly among themselves.
Evan just shook his head in amusement at their antics, turning his attention back to the fruits he was selecting.
And that was precisely why he missed a particularly suspicious part of their conversation—words that would have sounded alarm bells in his head if he had heard them.
[…it feels too much like her…]
[But she’s stronger!]
[She’s older too…]
[No, he’s older. His soul is older than his body.]
[…w-what?! How can their ages not match?!]
[Don’t ask me.]
[…I think we should tell her.]
[…Yeah, let’s tell her.]
[…She should come and see him for herself!]
Meanwhile, the clerks behind the counters could only watch helplessly, silently begging him not to empty their entire stock with the speed he was darting around the hall, leaving even the other customers stunned into silence.
Beatrix simply chuckled at the sight before leading Arthur toward the built-in restaurant inside the shop, which offered all kinds of food and drinks made with the very fruits Evan was swiping like some hyperactive speedster.
By the time Evan finished loading up his inventory, Arthur and Beatrix had already polished off three different fruit salads and a couple of smoothies.
With that done, Beatrix took the lead again, guiding them through more of the city’s sights, hopping between regions using the teleportation hubs scattered throughout.
Eventually, they found themselves on other continents, visiting a range of iconic spots—from floating cities in the sky to natural wonders. Beatrix played the role of tour guide with a proud smile plastered on her face, while Arthur could only chuckle at her overflowing enthusiasm.
They eventually returned to another part of Epsilon, and, unsurprisingly, Evan made a beeline for the local fruit markets, acting like he had just stepped into paradise as he stuffed bag after bag of fruits into his inventory.
He would have kept going if Beatrix hadn’t practically dragged him out and tossed him into a hovercar, rolling her eyes as she punched in their next destination on the navigation panel.
When they reached their next destination, Evan started muttering about the subtle differences between regions, prompting Beatrix to roll her eyes and ask,
“Don’t you ever get tired? You grabbed so much from the last place already.”
“Tiredness is impossible when it comes to strawberries!” Evan declared proudly, puffing his chest out as he stepped out of the car. “Also, there’s something ab—”
He suddenly cut off mid-sentence.
Without warning, he staggered forward, clutching his head with one palm as his breaths turned heavy and ragged. His body swayed, and for a moment, it looked like he might collapse right there on the side of the street.
