Chapter 1036 - 1036: Garden of Stars, Again.
“Evan?!”
Barely a second after Beatrix’s shocked voice rang out, blood began trickling from the corners of his eyes. Sparks crackled out of his pupils, snaking like electric tendrils across his face.
Arthur, who had been walking ahead alongside Artemisia, immediately snapped his head toward Evan at the sound of Beatrix’s voice. The moment he saw Evan’s condition, he instantly understood what was happening.
“Evan, this is—!”
“I know.”
Evan cut him off, gritting his teeth as he struggled to stay upright, leaning on Beatrix for support. His breathing was shallow, but he managed to glance at Arthur, his voice strained.
“It’s the law of time, isn’t it?”
Arthur gave a silent nod, and Evan let out a dry, humourless chuckle, not the least bit surprised.
“The law of time…?”
Beatrix asked, confusion written all over her face as she looked between the two.
Her puzzlement only deepened when she noticed the Mystic Eye symbol in Evan’s irises momentarily dim, vanishing for a second before reappearing again.
And then, realization struck her like a bolt of lightning.
“Putting it mildly, the law of time isn’t taking too kindly to the fact that there are two ‘Mystic Eyes of Mimicry’ in the same space and time.
To put it bluntly, that fucker is trying to blind me!”
Evan cursed under his breath as he forcefully deactivated his Mystic Eyes, ignoring the small crowd of spirits hovering nearby. They clearly wanted to help but were hesitating, instinctively sensing that Evan was different.
Little known fact, they were the cause of his current predicament.
Evan wiped the blood off his eyelids, but the tendrils of law energy sparked across his eyes again, burning his fingers a bit.
Unique Series Skills like Evan’s ‘Mystic Eyes’ had the potential to grant someone a Unique Authority/Ultimate Skill.
And if a combination of Unique Series Skills could grant such an Authority, it stood to reason that the Skills themselves inherently contained a potent concentration of the Law’s power.
In fact, the concentration of Law energy within them surpassed that of almost any other skill across the Universe.
The reason Evan could mimic skills through his Eyes was simple: the Law of Mimicry itself was responding to the command of the Unique Authority Seed Fragment embedded within his Series Skill—within his Eyes.
In short, his Mystic Eyes carried tremendous ‘value’ on the Universal Scale.
On a scale from 1 to 10, measuring how violently the Law of Time reacted to things from other time periods existing simultaneously with their present counterparts, Evan’s Mystic Eyes would rank a solid 7.5.
For comparison, weapons wielded by High-Tier Deities hovered around 7 to 9, and even replicas of true Cosmic Artifacts fell within that range. Genuine Cosmic Artifacts themselves stood at 9.5 and above.
The higher the number, the harsher the Law of Time’s response.
Lower-valued objects were simply rendered intangible—isolated from the physical third-dimensional space to avoid paradoxes. But anything above a certain threshold, like Evan’s Eyes, the law tried to eliminate.
It wasn’t hard to figure out why the Law was reacting to Evan all of a sudden.
Lifting his head, Evan narrowed his gaze toward the west as he spoke.
“The current ‘Second Hero’ of Aidos… they’re coming from that direction. And they’re closing in fast.”
Evan had been fine up until now, protected by the temporal cloaking provided by both Jamie and the spell that had brought him back in time. But with the current Second Hero drawing too close, the localized temporal laws finally detected the anomaly his presence caused.
As for why this had happened, it was naturally the spirits—drawn to Evan thanks to his Loved by Nature title—who were to blame.
While Evan had been busy picking fruits, the spirits had been whispering among themselves, eventually reaching a decision to inform her about Evan, who gave off a similar feeling to her.
More accurately, what they sensed was Evan’s Hero Authority, which bore a striking resemblance to the current Second Hero’s.
Their innocent chatter and excitement led them to rush off and inform the current Second, prompting her to head in Evan’s direction.
And so, she drew close enough for the localized law of time to detect the anomaly—two ‘Second Heroes’ of Aidos existing in the same time and space—ultimately leading to the current situation.
“We have to leave here.
If you two meet, it wouldn’t just be the law of time we have to deal with!”
Artemisia spoke urgently, turning toward Arthur, ready to ask him to open a Cosmic Gate.
Her father had taught her a few things about the Universe’s System, and even though her understanding was basic, it was enough for her to know that different ‘Matrixes’ oversaw different aspects.
If Evan and the current Second Hero met, the ‘Defence Matrix’ which managed Heroes and Planetary Defence Mechanisms would likely react.
She didn’t know exactly what it would do, but she was sure it wouldn’t be anything good.
However, before she could voice her request, cosmic energy surged around all four of them, warping space in an instant.
Light vanished, and when it returned, they were standing on a completely different continent, right in front of Jamie.
They seemed to have arrived at an outdoor restaurant, where Jamie was seated alone at a table with two empty teacups in front of him.
Whoever he’d been sharing tea with had already left.
Jamie’s gaze immediately locked onto Evan as he raised a hand, channelling ether to heal the small but painful injuries left by the law of time.
“What are the odds that you’d end up in such a situation,” he said with a wry smile.
Evan silently mirrored his expression, though his mouth was hidden behind his mask.
“Welp, we can’t stay here too long.
This little occurrence has rendered my cloaking useless. ‘Aidos’ has detected you,” Jamie said as he stood from his seat, and Evan decided not to mention that ‘Aidos’ had detected him the moment he arrived.
Casually waving his hand, Jamie conjured a cosmic gate, then gestured toward the two girls.
“Uvton’s waiting for you two on the other end. Go stay with him until the three of us come back.”
Jamie would have preferred to take the girls with them to the RVE, but while they were busy exploring the continents, Jamie had been speaking with Artemisia’s father, and the man had specifically asked otherwise. So instead, he was sending them to him.
Still, it was obvious the two were worried about Evan. Even Artemisia’s typically stoic expression had cracked slightly.
The sight made Jamie chuckle softly as he added,
“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.”
His reassurance seemed enough for now. After exchanging one last glance with Evan, the girls finally stepped through the gate.
The instant it closed, Jamie immediately teleported Arthur and Evan away.
They reappeared inside a colossal, icy cavern, standing atop a small cliff. From their elevated position, they could see an enormous bird sleeping at the cavern’s centre, its massive body curled in rest.
Feeling the cold air biting against their skin, Arthur felt the scene below was almost like something straight out of a game—a boss monster quietly waiting for challengers.
As the thought crossed Arthur’s mind, the bird’s eyes suddenly snapped open. Its head rose, gaze locking onto them before it took to the air with a sweep of its wings.
“Oh… there’s a Silverwing in this era too,” Evan muttered at the sight, more intrigued than surprised.
This ‘Silverwing’ looked exactly the same as the one he’d defeated in future Aidos. The only difference was that this one was obviously a Deity Level existence.
Its sharp eyes locked onto Evan, narrowing slightly. But before it could say anything, Jamie casually dangled a pair of keys in the air.
The metallic jingle echoed through the cavern, immediately drawing Silverwing’s attention. Its piercing gaze shifted to the keys, then back to Evan.
Seemingly losing interest, the Silverwing slowly descended to the ground once more. With a low huff, it folded its wings and settled back into sleep.
“You know that guy?” Arthur asked, his eyes still on the Silverwing as it dozed, curiosity clear in his voice.
“Well, my Harbinger of Ice skill had to come from somewhere, didn’t it?”
Evan replied with a shrug, then gestured around them at the vast, frost-covered cavern.
“This place is called the ‘Cavern of the Frozen Harbinger’.”
The name alone made it obvious that Evan’s skill was connected to this place.
“Come on, let’s get moving before the law of time starts acting up again. You know why, don’t you?”
Jamie’s voice rang out as he called to the two boys, while simultaneously using his spatial Authority to isolate the space around Evan.
Naturally, the Silverwing had woken up because it sensed that Evan possessed the same skill, and was curious how and why.
Although the Harbinger of Ice wasn’t tied to his Hero Status like the Mystic Eyes were, Jamie wasn’t about to take any risks—hence the added protection with spatial energy.
With Jamie leading the way, they continued deeper into the vast natural ice cave. Evan drifted into thought, his legs carrying him toward the familiar tear in space waiting at the end of the cave.
Upon arrival, however, the rift looked a bit different from how Evan remembered.
Previously, there had been nothing sealing the tear, but now, it appeared as if someone had attempted to stitch the torn space back together, leaving a jagged, uneven scar behind.
While Evan noted the differences, Jamie approached the tear and pushed the keys into the thin air just before the rift, twisting them as though unlocking an invisible door.
The moment the key turned, the space before them shuddered.
The jagged tear shifted, its edges smoothing out into a swirling vortex of deep purple energy.
Had it not been for the Frozen Cavern’s walls, they would have witnessed the full spectacle of the aurora-coloured tear in space-time hidden within the icy walls.
Without a word, Jamie stepped forward, and the two boys followed closely behind.
Much like their first trip to Gozon, the sight beyond this Dimensional Rift was equally breathtaking—swirling stars scattered across the vast expanse of space.
The awe-inspiring view lasted only a few seconds before they exited the rift and emerged on the other side.
[Welcome to the ‘Regal Void Expanse’ Realm]
Evan dismissed the system message greeting him, looking up to the sky as he spoke,
“This place is as beautiful as ever, huh?”
His words prompted the other two to follow suit, and the sight that greeted them was nothing short of spectacular.
“You’d think you’d get used to it after multiple visits, but it only gets more mesmerizing each time,” he added, his gaze lingering on the twinkling stars.
“Hm? The gravity here is different from Aidos.”
Arthur glanced away from the sky, unimpressed by the view. Evan nodded, offering a precise figure on the gravity discrepancy.
“It’s about 1.5 times stronger, or at least it was the last time I came.”
In front of them lay a vast forest, its towering trees stretching toward the sky. The canopy was dominated by countless birch trees, their crowns allowing beams of sunlight to filter down, nourishing the diverse array of plants growing on the grassy ground below.
To Arthur, this was the kind of place where one could easily get lost.
Jamie, however, seemed to navigate it effortlessly, and Evan… had a map.
Yep, the RHS system interface hovered before Evan’s eyes, marking the correct path to the Garden of Stars.
The forest didn’t appear to harbour any particularly dangerous or powerful creatures. The only real threat seemed to be the risk of getting lost—which was no longer an issue, given that two out of the three knew exactly where they were headed.
After some time, they reached the heart of the forest, breaking free from the dense thicket of birch trees and entering a vast artificial clearing.
Before them stood over a dozen Sequoia trees, towering giants known for their immense height and girth compared to other trees. These ones were so tall, they seemed to brush the clouds.
As the trees came into view, two figures teleported before the trio, a man and a woman dressed in waiter uniforms.
“Welcome to the Garden of the Stars.”
They greeted the group in unison with a polite bow, and Arthur’s eyes sparkled with curiosity at the sight of them.
“Are they homunculi?”
“Close, but they’re Automations.”
