Chapter 809 - 809: Bornesher Fort
Bornesher Fort
Zanclike City
Osaburg Region, Tarse
December 10th
Year 1054
This outpost, typically manned by Osaburg Region soldiers during the tribal skirmishes in Tarse, was now occupied by CelSols.
These CelSols appeared no different from ordinary men, save for the powerful celestial energy coursing through them and the faint essence of fate that gave their skin a subtle golden sheen.
Scanning them with energy would reveal barely detectable cores, absorbing ambient magic power to power their reconstructed bodies. The core locations varied—one might have a core in his head, another in his left foot.
Thus, a uniform strike to take them out was nearly impossible.
Well, that didn’t matter for Evan and Kayla though.
“Ice Nova.”
[Electroflame, Ark Flash.]
***BOOOOMMM!!!!
The two wandered through Bornesher as if on a leisurely picnic, reducing every CelSol they encountered to charred remains.
Evan froze them, while Kayla melted the ice, soaking them in water before unleashing lightning that roasted them alive. Her lightning coursed through their bodies, obliterating their cores in an instant.
Together, they casually strolled through the fort walls, heading straight for the massive banquet hall in the centre.
It didn’t take long for them to reach there, and seated on the three-step dais opposite the door, was their target.
He was clad in navy blue armour, with patterns resembling frozen waves etched into the metal. His short, tousled hair and his piercing eyes matched the dark hue of his armour.
Just his mere presence lowered the ambient temperature, and standing in the same room with him made Evan feel like it was some sort of competition about who could make the surroundings colder.
Kayla, transformed into the cat resting on Evan’s shoulder, shook her body and created a coat of flames on her fur to warm herself.
Both sides stared at each other in silence, and finally, the Celestial spoke.
“Faulin had told me you might be aware of our plans. When I heard this, I laughed and told him not to compare us to those Demonic Hand fools you’ve been fighting.
I was wholly confident that no hint of our plans could leak out, but here you are, standing before me.
It seems I’m the one who needs to be laughed at now.”
Glazard spoke as he thrust his Frost Sword into the ground, releasing a surge of powerful frost energy. However, Evan just created an elemental shield to block it before speaking.
“Well, Hello there, Verglas Celestial.
You really should have listened to your Boss’ warning.”
Evan stepped forward as he spoke, glancing around at the magic circle inscribed on the floor in this banquet hall. Just like the Arcane Celestial was doing, Glazard was here to siphon energy from a Hotspot.
It’s just that he was almost done with this process and if Evan had delayed by another day, then the man would have gone to Kreah.
“Indeed, I should have.”
Getting to his feet, Glazard gripped his sword tightly and took a stance. Kayla jumped off Evan’s shoulder and the boy summoned the Unforged Vale.
‘Mesarthim; Red.’
He infused the blade with vivid red flames alone, focusing his power on its ability to ignore durability and resistances.
Glazard knew Evan was here to kill him, and he wanted to kill Evan as well to avenge the deaths of his fellow Celestials whom the boy had sent Leviah to assassinate.
No extra words were needed between both of them, without further ado, they charged at each other with weapons drawn.
Glazard swung his ice-infused sword, sending a wave of frost towards Evan who countered with a sweep of his flame-imbued blade, creating a burst of steam as the two elements clashed.
The Verglas Celestial burst in through the steam and swung his blade, releasing a blur of icy slashes and stabs.
He rolled to dodge Evan’s counters and summoned ice walls to block the boy’s sword thrusts.
Evan activated Pierce Guard and shattered all the Ice Walls with a thrust of his sword, but Glazard infused celestial energy into his sword and commanded the fragmented ice shards to launch themselves at Evan, each with the force of a bullet.
‘Hmm? His sword?’
The Hero noticed something off, but it didn’t linger in his mind as the piercing power of the ice shards tore through his elemental shield and reached his body. At the last moment, his Imperial Scales manifested and deflected the icicles before they reached his skin.
“Hell Unleashed!”
Evan executed his technique, spinning and swinging his sword in a fiery arc. The searing power of his flames tore through Glazard’s hastily put-up barriers, forcing the Celestial to retreat.
‘Where’s the cat?’
Glazard’s pupils darted around, trying to find Kayla’s figure as he jumped back, and as if responding to his internal question, he heard a voice come from behind him.
[Electroflame!]
A rose of flames bloomed on Glazard’s back and Evan teleported with blink and followed up with a punch from Fracture.
The combo amplified the damage, combining lightning and flames in a dazzling explosion that cracked Glazard’s armour and sent him flying.
However, the Celestial recovered quickly, drawing frost power from his sword to mend his armour before raising the blade and conjuring a torrent of ice spikes around the two.
With ice spikes coming in from all directions, Kayla took action, activating her Laser Ring skill which summoned a runic circle beneath her feet. Five large cubes of golden lightning appeared around her, releasing massive laser beams that rotated, cutting through the ice spikes and clearing a path for Evan.
‘Flame Fan Formation!’
Evan unleashed an AOE technique as he dashed forward, melting the remaining ice and closing the distance to Glazard who met him head-on.
Their swords clashed in a shower of sparks and ice shards, with each force releasing shockwaves that cracked the walls of the banquet hall, sending debris flying.
Kayla closely observed the intense battle, her eyes tracking every movement as she compressed lightning energy into a singular point within her paws.
The instant their speed slowed a bit, Kayla seized the opportunity and activated ‘Ark Flash’. Leaping into the air, she dropped the condensed energy as beams, striking Glazard repeatedly.
“Guk! Blizzard!”
Glazard roared, frustration evident in his voice as he summoned a blizzard to envelop the hall. The temperature plummeted, and frost began to form on every surface.
“Vortex!”
Evan thrust his blade and the mass of swirling flames clashed with Glazard’s Blizard, tearing through the icy storm before using up its power and going off with a massive burst of steam.
The shockwaves sent the two combatants flying against the walls, creating large cracks in them, and at that moment, Kayla sucked a deep breath in and released a torrent of Flames and Lightning from her mouth.
The powerful beam of combined elements struck Glazard head-on, and Evan forced himself off the wall and charged forward, swinging his blade and using Hell Unleashed to engulf Glazard with red flames.
“—!!”
Glazard’s screams were drowned out by the roaring of the flames that consumed him. In his rage, he summoned his celestial energy and condensed a sword of ice which he sent hurtling towards Evan from behind.
Without turning back, Evan used Vindication’s Strike, conjuring a portal of golden energy that released a beam of flames, blasting the giant ice sword to pieces.
The impact created another shockwave, shattering the remaining walls of the banquet hall and revealing the circular hallways surrounding them.
“CRYSTAL SPHERE!!”
Glazard screamed, expanding a sphere of ice from his sword. The powerful blast blew Evan and Kayla away, hurling them towards the other end of the broken hall.
As he got to his feet, Evan wiped the blood dripping down his forehead and looked in the direction of the frosty cloud opposite him with narrowed eyes.
‘That…the last attack came not from him, but his Sword. He did that earlier too.’
Kayla got to her feet and shook the dust off her body. Her eyes glowed and she was about to activate her Pseudo-Authority when Evan held out his hand and stopped her.
“Kayla, Wait.”
[Master…?]
Ignoring the Spirit’s confused gaze, Evan looked at Glazard who emerged from the frosty cloud in front of him and asked.
“You…who are you?”
“…what?”
The Verglas Celestial looked at Evan in confusion, but Evan silently appraised him once more and shook his head.
‘Appraisal is telling me he’s Glazard, but…’
Evan dismissed the Status board in front of him, raising his gaze as he began speaking.
“The future is something that always changes and a lot of things don’t go the way I want them to. It’s usually a 50-50.
But if there is one thing that hardly changes, it’s that the strengths of my enemies at specific points in time are as they were in the game.”
Glazard’s face was a mask of confusion, question marks practically visible above his head. He couldn’t be blamed; Evan had started talking about something completely unrelated to their battle.
Evan noticed Glazard’s bewildered gaze but chose to ignore it, stabbing his sword into the ground.
“Verglas Celestial Glazard. A Fallen Celestial Deity with mastery over the Ice Element and wields a Frost Sword.
The Glazard of Year 1054 is not someone who should be an easy opponent for me as he’s a Level 615 Superior Stage Epic.
But yet, we’re evenly matched even though I’m still fighting in my base state.”
“…”
When Evan said this, Kayla couldn’t help but agree. So far, both sides were indeed matched, but Evan had yet to use his BoD or Limit Break.
“What’s more, ever since I entered this place, my Danger Sense Skill hasn’t given off a single warning.
There’s no way my Danger Sense wouldn’t ring alarms in my head before a Level 615 opponent. The fact that it hasn’t, means your combat power is not a threat to me.
This can only mean one thing—you’re not Glazard.”
Evan made this declaration with absolute confidence, that the person standing before them was not the Verglas Celestial.
“If so, then who are you?”
“…”
The man before them remained silent for a moment, his gaze shifting between Evan and Kayla. Then—
“Pfft…BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”
—He erupted into laughter. His laughter echoed through the hall as he dropped his sword and clutched his stomach, completely unconcerned about Evan attacking him.
“I don’t get half of what you said kid, but you somehow arrived at the correct answer!
Of course, I’m NOT that muscle brain!”
The ‘Glazard’ standing before them casually mocked the real one, barely containing his laughter as he spoke.
“If I’m to guess, he’s probably where that Princess is. She outed many of our spies in the GWE some years ago, and she didn’t even realise it when she did.
That allowed me to understand something…Illusions, don’t work on that girl.”
“?!”
Evan’s expression contorted when he heard that, and if Kayla was in her human form, then her face would have paled rapidly.
‘Fuck! Glazard is where Laurene is?! This is bad…Laurene can’t beat Glazard.’
Though Evan had sent Kuro to accompany her, he doubted their combined strength would be enough to overcome the Verglas Celestial.
By his estimation, he needed his BoD state to defeat Glazard, and neither Kuro nor Laurene had that level of power, even if they combined forces.
As these thoughts raced through his mind, the man before him began to transform.
His dark blue hair morphed into long auburn locks, and his navy-blue armour transformed into indigo mage robes adorned with silver runes. His square jaw and piercing blue eyes shifted to sharp angular features and almond-shaped hazel eyes filled with an amused glint.
Spreading his hands out, he declared.
“Welcome to your Graveyard, Evan Eris. And I am your executioner.”
Evan cursed internally, recognizing the man as someone he was ill-matched against—someone he had intended Laurene to confront instead. He was also a figure Kayla wanted to avoid at all costs.
The Illusion Celestial, Belphont!
