Chapter 808 - 808: To Each, Their Opponent [Bonus!!!]
💃🏽🥳💃🏽
“Now then, let’s get to the last part of this briefing. Where we decide which FCDs we’re going to be facing. As much as I’d like us to stick together, that can’t happen since the FCDs are not in one place.”
When Evan said this, everyone sat up with tense expressions, and even Nadarus who was busy with his newspaper, closed it and turned his attention to the holograms.
“Heavenly Celestial Faulin. He won’t be targeted until we’ve dealt with the others. The FCDs will restore his power first, keeping him at the ritual grounds.
But don’t underestimate him because he’s not taking active action—he’s a man who preserved his dead daughter, the Moon Celestial Aerith’s corpse, for over 1500 years, intending to revive her when he regains his Deity-Level power.
We must crush him in one fell swoop when we move against him, or there’s no telling what he’d do in his desperation.
Sun Celestial Conroe, who would have been a nuisance, died last month. Even with depleted power, he was the strongest, and the reason I waited until now to tackle the FCDs was because I wanted him to die first.
He was cursed to death by the ‘Infernal Devil King’, using an Ultimate Skill.”
Just like Pseudo-Authorities were considered Unique Skills for Lower-Existences, Complete Authorities were similar. They occupied a separate tab on the status board, but that wasn’t important now.
What was important, was that these ‘Authorities’ were the base of Ultimate Skills.
After reaching Level 500, Evan unlocked more entries in the Archive and found out about the true nature of Ultimate Skills.
They were essentially Unique Esoteric Authorities.
Ultimate Seeds—which could be gotten by combining Three Unique Series Skills—were one of the few, and the fastest means to acquire these Unique Authorities.
To Evan’s astonishment, this fusion did not always guarantee the birth of an Ultimate Seed. Success was certain only if the three Unique Series Skills were of the same type or Series.
For example, Eliza’s ‘Child of Life’ and ‘Breath of Life’ were both Life types, so if she obtained a third Life type, an Ultimate Seed was assured. However, if the third skill differed in type, her chances of acquiring an Ultimate Seed would drop by 33%.
An ‘Authority’ was the manifestation of a Deity’s right to enforce their will upon a World Law, inviolable except by higher-ranked Authorities or greater comprehension at the same rank.
Yet, Ultimate Skills or Unique Authorities defied these rankings.
They could violate decrees set by beings with higher-ranked Authorities, regardless of the user’s relative power. Only other Ultimate Skills could resist their effects.
It was such a power that the Infernal Devil King used to curse Conroe.
The curse’s effect was simple. Two words.
Absolute Death.
That was the Infernal Devil King’s Ultimate Skill: Absolute Death Authority.
No matter what means Conroe employed, his life would inevitably slip away, culminating in an unavoidable death. Conroe had reached a level where he attained an infinite lifespan, and even after his Fall, he retained that Eternal Life.
Yet, the Absolute Death Authority annihilated the very concept of ‘Eternal Life’ for Conroe. His prolonged existence, even under the curse, was only because of how strong he was in his prime.
Not even a being with an Authority in the Law of Death could have intervened to save him. Should someone wielding the Authority of Time attempt to rewind to a moment before Conroe was cursed, the curse would tenaciously follow him back through time.
It was that ridiculous of an ability.
On a side note, Evan discovered that the rumoured 90% Damage negation granted by Ultimate Skills was only effective against Lower Existences and attacks not imbued with the powers of Laws.
Coming out of his reverie, Evan moved on to the next FCD on the list and spoke.
“Storm Celestial Brenda. Location: GWE. She isn’t involved in this madness but she might sense something wrong and come from the GWE. Don’t ask how she’d sense things over the vast distance—it’s a Higher Existence thing.
Verglas Celestial Glazard. Location: Zanclike City. He’s an Ice user, a bad elemental match-up for me who uses fire. I’d handle him.”
The boy was about to move on to the next person on the list when Eliza frowned and interrupted him.
“You want to go alone?”
“…”
Evan’s silence was pretty much an affirmation and the young woman shook her head and spoke.
“You’re NOT going alone, Evan. I’m coming with you.”
“You can’t, Liz. You need to handle Death Celestial Mortis…the one responsible for the incident in Zlunard yesterday.”
When Evan revealed this piece of information, he ignored the reactions of the Tarsians and his party members and focused solely on Eliza.
“I see, so that’s why you made us go there. If he’s a ‘Death’ user, then I’m indeed the best one to deal with him.”
Evan was about to speak, but Eliza beat him to it.
“But that’s a different issue. You are not going anywhere ALONE, Evan. Someone has to go with you. Take Kayla or Kuro with you.”
The young woman wanted to come with Evan, but she would also settle for having someone else with him. Eliza didn’t want Evan going off to face the Second-strongest opponent on his own.
She didn’t know why but she was having a very bad feeling about this.
“Hmm…I wanted Kayla or Kuro to go with Laurne to fight Belphont, though?”
When Evan mentioned her name, the Lightning Spirit shook her head repeatedly, pointing to Kuro as she said.
[Master, let Kuro go with her to the Illusion guy. I’d go with you to fight the Ice guy.]
Kuro glanced at Kayla when she spoke, and due to the angle of his line of sight in cat form, he was able to see Kayla’s trembling hands hidden under the table.
‘She’s too shaken…’
That thought crossed Kuro’s mind, but he said nothing about it since he completely understood Kayla’s fears.
[I’d assist the Princess. Let Lady Kayla go with you, Master.]
Kuro jumped atop tables and moved over to where Laurene was, before holding out his paw for a handshake. Laurene, however, ignored Kuro’s handshake and instead picked the cat up to snuggle him.
In the meantime, Evan continued speaking.
“Liz and Cheisnih would be the team dealing with Death Celestial Mortis. That man is the one who taught Dominik Velak how to be a Necromancer, be careful.”
Evan revealed an unexpected connection between the deceased Demonic Hand Executive and one of the FCDs, something that multiplied Mortis’ threat level instantly.
“Legion Celestial Fluviel. Location: Kreah. But his Legion would be spread out across the other cities with FCDs too.
To be honest, he’s the biggest hassle to deal with. This is because he’s the ‘General’ of the FCDs army, commanding their CelSols.”
When the word ‘CelSols’ left Evan’s lips, the three Demons present all had horrible expressions on their faces. Kayla also frowned but Evan didn’t notice as he was paying more attention to the Demons.
“That’s not good…”
Evan’s words prompted others to follow his gaze and they also saw the dark expressions of the Demons. At this, David questioned.
“Are the CelSols things that bad?”
“You don’t know the half of it.”
Roselia and the others had dealt with CelSols on other worlds in the past, and they were always a pain.
“Zombie-like Legions of Soldiers who constantly regenerate by drawing in ambient magic power until you destroy their cores.
They’re the Incarnated Vestiges and Souls of deceased warriors and soldiers who fought under the Celestial King’s armies given new physical forms. It may not sound like much, but don’t forget that these FCDs were once rulers of hundreds of thousands of worlds, think about how large their armies would have been.
CelSol is a short form for ‘Celestial Soldiers’, and Fluviel was their creator and Supreme Commander.”
Roselia’s explanation shed light on the CelSols, and Evan took over right after she spoke, facing Lloris, Isobel and Késhaun.
“That’s where you come in, Emperor Lloris. To fight Fluviel’s Legion, we’d need our own Legion—Tarse’s Army led by the Warlords.”
Oh, and the CelSols would not be as much as Roselia and her siblings experienced in the past since Fluviel has lost most of his power and cannot control too many.
But you should expect at least 100,000 of them.”
Considering that Fluviel had fallen as low as the Epic Level, that was a huge number of CelSols. He had taken years to prepare these CelSols, all for the sake of resisting Tarse’s army.
“Faulin knows there’s no way you would not notice what’s going on when he starts, the energy surge would be astronomical. These CelSols are what they prepared to hold off whatever first responders until the Ritual is complete.”
Evan spoke to Lloris and the man silently rubbed his chin while sinking into his thoughts. After a minute of silence, Evan spoke again.
“How long would It take you to assemble enough troops to deal with that many CelSols?”
“…give me 7 days and I’ll see what can be done.”
Lloris replied after a short pause, internally sending a command to his Clone in the Sandfire Palace to start drafting the orders to send out.
With the Emperor’s cooperation secured, Evan turned towards Sir Heinr and the other Paladins present.
“Death Celestial Mortis would be handled by Liz and Cheisnih, but his undead would not.
These undead are meant to be a diversion to throw off Tarse’s Army, something they wouldn’t be able to ignore even if they knew it was a diversion.
He’s going to send tens of thousands of undead to attack random towns and villages across Osaburg, and you guys are the ones who’d deal with them while Liz and Cheisnih deal with him who would be in either Zlunard Metropolis or Caresos.
Please confirm his exact location for me, Leviah”
Leviah and the Paladins nodded, with some jotting down reports to send to the Pope. In the meantime, Evan waved his hand and highlighted the next Hologram.
“Arcane Celestial Lorethi. Location: Grahsa.”
That was all he had to say for David to understand that this was his target. For someone who was basically a ‘Superpowered Archmage’, it was only prudent to send an ‘Anti-Mage’.
“Be careful. She’s in Grasha to steal energy from the Hotspot there, so for a while, it’d seem as if she has infinite magic power. All you have to do is hold on till the absorption process is complete and you can deal with her easily.
Next, Faith Celestial Seraphael. Location: Knidyma City. His strength is average but doesn’t matter because he doesn’t fight himself.
He’s a very irritating opponent. On a scale of 1-10, his irritation level is 20.
Not many here would have the necessary resolve to fight him, and I cannot let the Tarsians handle it, that’s why…”
Looking at two of the Demon siblings present, Evan concluded.
Roselia and Nadarus, you’re up.”
Evan did not explain much about Seraphael or why he did not want the Tarsians to deal with him. Instead, he sent this information as a telepathic message to Roselia and Nadarus.
They were very capable of ignoring Seraphael’s bullshit and his tactics wouldn’t work against them.
‘Seraphael would use his ‘Believers’ against you. Most would be ordinary Civilians. The crucial point is that his ‘Believers’ are far too gone.
Even if you kill Seraphael without touching them, they’d either attack you after or commit suicide to follow their god in death.’
[I see…]
That was all Roselia said as she nodded, while Nadarus was busy thinking of how his power to turn people to Thralls would fare against Seraphael’s ‘Faith Control’.
“Next, Illusion Celestial Belphont. Location: Olake. Laurene and Kuro, that’s your job.”
Pitting Laurene against someone whose main strength lay in his powerful Illusions was a decision everyone who knew of her power could understand.
In her worldview, Illusions don’t exist. If she didn’t take care, she might not even notice that there were Illusions before her in the first place.
“Beast Celestial Theron. Location: Kreah. He’d be serving as a guard for Faulin, along with Battle Celestial Hines. Light Celestial Elysandre would also be in Kreah as she’s working on the Soul Conversion ritual.
When it’s time to get to Faulin, we’d have to get through Theron’s beasts and Fluviel’s CelSols.
Emperor Lloris…”
“Adventurers and Mercenaries. I’d send out an official commission to have them join in with the soldiers.”
Lloris took the words right out of Evan’s mouth, and the boy simply nodded with a smile.
“That brings this briefing to a close.
Thank you for your understanding everyone. Let’s take the next few days to round up any preparations we have.
On the 10th of December, we’d strike before Dawn.”
◇ ◇ ◇
Emperor Lloris demonstrated why he was the one who defeated all his siblings and conquered the Sandfire Throne.
Forget 7 days, the man only needed half of that to prepare everything.
First, he publicized the Zlunard incident, revealing it as an Illegal Monster Fighting Ring gone wrong, resulting in civilian deaths. Using Evan’s photos, he provided proof of some Business Tycoons and Court Officials present, publicly naming and punishing them.
He then ordered inspections across the Osaburg Region for other illegal rings, providing a public excuse for mobilizing thousands of soldiers.
The Holy Knights and Paladins mixed in with these soldiers to camouflage their presence, and with Teleportation Waypoints and Trains, they were in position by the 7th.
At that time, Lloris attempted to contact Evan, but no one, not even his party members, knew where he was.
It was only on the 9th, after the President of Terrok and his diplomats had left Tarse, that Evan reappeared, announcing they would take action the next day as planned.
Everyone had already split up to their respective cities, with Kreah being the only untouched one…for now. The plan was to reconvene in Naxetus after eliminating their targets, then enter Kreah together using hidden Waypoints planted in the Trade City.
By 5 a.m. on the 10th of December, Evan and Kayla arrived in Zanclike and headed for Bornesher Fort, where Verglas Celestial Glazard resided.
