Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 818 - 818: Knidyma

Inter-City Expressway

Knidyma City

Osaburg Region

December 10th

Year 1054

Backtracking an hour earlier, before Evan and Kayla arrived at Zanclike, two of the Deadly Sin siblings were in a carriage within Knidyma City in the Osaburg Region’s Northwest area.

Roselia was seated with her legs stretched out in the luxury carriage, reading a novel while Nadarus was at the other edge of the seat, twirling a pen around as he solved the crossword puzzle at the back of a business newspaper.

Upon finishing the puzzle, the man folded up the newspaper and slowly his upper body leaned towards his sister, ending with his head falling on her lap as he spoke.

“Sister…I’m bored.”

“…”

Roselia raised her book and regarded him with a silent gaze that asked ‘What are you doing?’. In response, Nadarus poked the headrest of the carriage seat and spoke.

“It’s more comfortable than this.”

The two held each other’s gazes for a while and Nadarus just gave a light smile, knowing fully well that though Roselia was looking at him like she wanted to smack the shit out of him, she wouldn’t push him off.

And indeed, she did not.

Roselia calmly readjusted her hands and continued reading her book like always, and the sight made Nadarus chuckle a bit.

After 300+ years of being together, he had long since understood how Roselia was.

The woman had an inherent condescension towards pretty much all living beings, save for a select few she saw as equals or respected.

Her six siblings, Demon King’s Alvey and McEnda III.

‘Maybe Evan and Eliza too…and for some reason, Kayla as well.’

While thinking that, he glanced at the cover of the book she was reading to see its title: ‘A Game of Crowns’.

‘Sounds like a book about royalty and the like…’

He peeked his head through the gap in her arms and skimmed through the page she was on. Coincidentally, he happened to look just when she turned over to a page talking about a rather inappropriate relationship between two siblings.

“Oh my, so this is the kind of thing you’re into, sister.”

“One more word, Nadarus. One more Word.”

“…”

The Demon of Greed quickly shut his mouth as he didn’t want to get kicked out of a moving carriage. Instead, he changed the topic to something else.

“So? How are we supposed to find this Seraphael guy?”

When the name ‘Seraphael’ escaped his lips, Roselia’s eyes which she raised from her book noticed through the front window, that the ears of their elven carriage rider twitched.

However, she acted like she didn’t notice a thing and pointed out the window.

Following her hands, Nadarus looked outside just in time to see them pass by a coloured statue in the city centre.

It was one of a man with a muscular frame, adorned with a flowing robe adorned with intricate silver patterns, seamlessly merging with the armour he wore.

He had long silver hair framing his face and eyes reflecting the colour of the sky. Majestic wings emerge from the back of his armour, imbued with a soft luminescence that gave him an angelic aura.

When Nadarus saw that statue, he blinked in surprise, before resting his head back on Roselia’s lap and speaking.

“I’d pretend I didn’t see that.”

He knew the FCDs were worshipped like gods in parts of Tarse, yet he was still surprised to see a statue of one of them in the middle of the city. What’s more, there were hundreds of people surrounding it, bowing repeatedly while some placed fruits and other offerings at its feet.

“Hey, Rider! Drop us off at that tavern beside the Adventurer’s Guild.”

“Okay, ser.”

The carriage rider steered the horses in the direction Nadarus mentioned and when Roselia questioned him with her gaze, he replied.

“Taverns are the number one spot for information gathering in this case.”

“You sure you just don’t want to drink?”

Roselia asked this skeptically, and Nadarus did not even bother denying it.

“Of course, I want to! But I also want to find out information. It’s not like we can just walk into one of their temples and ask to see the guy.”

Nadarus replied without shame and Roselia only silently rolled her eyes before shutting her novel and pushing him off her lap.

When the carriage door opened and they got down, Roselia frowned deeply and looked around.

“What’s wrong, sister?”

“This place… it’s full of hubris.”

As the Deadly Sin of Pride, Roselia could literally see the emotions of pride and arrogance, and right now, her eyes were filled with it.

It got even worse when they entered the tavern and saw people drinking around like it wasn’t 5 in the morning.

‘They’ve probably been here all night. Some are likely adventurers who are waiting for the guild to open so they can get the best quests.’

While she was thinking this, Nadarus was already discussing with the barmaster.

“Haven’t seen your faces around here.”

“Course you haven’t, we just got into town a few days ago. We’ve been pretty busy with business and since everything is finally done, we decided to have a celebration!”

“Ohh…”

The burly barmaster nodded in understanding at Nadarus’ casual lie, before setting down the glass he was holding.

“Since you’re new, I’d give you a discount.”

“Gee, thanks! Gimme your strongest stuff then! What about you sister?”

When the question was sent her way, Roselia glanced at the array of drinks behind the counter before silently pointing at a grape wine in the corner.

She then took a seat at an empty corner table and reopened her novel, tuning out the rowdy laughter and chatter of the tavern’s other patrons, while Nadarus continued conversing with the barmaster.

“Your sister, huh?”

His eyes narrowed slightly when he spoke the word ‘sister’, and Nadarus nodded casually while sorting out the coins in his pocket.

By the time the Demon looked back up, the barmaster’s expression was back to normal and he was already pouring Roselia’s drink.

After giving Roselia her order, Nadarus joined up with a group of off-duty soldiers at a nearby table, seamlessly entering their conversation and laughing boisterously with them.

In the meantime, Roselia who was left alone, drew the eyes of many men in the tavern. Despite putting herself in an inconspicuous corner, it was kinda hard for a beautiful woman like her not to draw attention.

A group of drunken men, emboldened by their alcohol intake, stumbled over to her table. They had intentions that would’ve had Evan saying a prayer for them if he was present—they wanted to hit on her.

As Roselia silently scanned the lines of the novel with calm concentration, one of the men, swaying slightly, leaned in closer than necessary, his breath reeking of ale.

Not knowing that he was mere inches from entering the range that would have made him lose his head, he slurred a question to her.

“Hey there, beautiful, whatcha reading?”

His companions chimed in, attempting suave tones that fell flat.

“You know, you look too good to be sitting here all alone. How about some company?”

“Why don’t you join us, sweetheart? We can show you a better time than that book.”

If it was a normal person, they’d have evoked a reaction by now, but Roselia did not spare them a glance. She silently turned another page of his book, completely ignoring their existence like they were mere ghosts passing by.

Nadarus, catching sight of the scene from across the tavern, saw the men crowding around Roselia and his jovial expression darkened.

“Hey! You got a death wish?!”

He left the group of soldiers and made his way over as he spoke, prompting the drunk men to turn towards him.

They thought he was trying to get them off because he didn’t want them hitting on her, completely unaware that Nadarus had just saved the life of the one who was reaching out towards her book!

‘Even I’m not crazy to try and take a book out of her hands!’

As he made his way through the bustling tavern, Nadarus accidentally bumped into a man. The man continued walking, seemingly unbothered by the collision. However, his steps abruptly halted as Nadarus’ hand blurred and clamped onto his shoulder.

“Gak?!”

The grip was ironclad, pinning the man in place, his feet unable to lift an inch off the ground. As Nadarus pressed his fingers deeper, an audible crack signalled the breaking of the man’s shoulder bones.

“Oy!

What the fuck is this bullshit?”

Nadarus’ voice was low and devoid of emotion, but the man, overwhelmed by the pain in his shoulder, couldn’t respond.

When the silence persisted, Nadarus tightened his grip further, eliciting a scream so loud it pierced through the noise and bustle of the tavern, drawing the attention of everyone in an instant.

It should not be forgotten that among the Seven Deadly Sins, if Roselia possessed the highest attack power and Leviah was unmatched in speed, then Nadarus reigned supreme in sheer physical strength.

Crushing the shoulder of a Level 400 required no effort on his part.

Blood dripped from the man’s shoulder, his shattered bones piercing through his skin.

Only then did Roselia finally raise her head. Her gaze drifted to Nadarus’ torso, noticing a knife embedded in his stomach and she heaved a silent sigh.

Nadarus’ actions prompted the three men who had been hitting on her to react. As if their earlier drunkenness had been a lie, their eyes sharpened, and they moved with near-sonic speed.

The one holding a beer jug maliciously poured the contents onto Roselia, while the second flicked his wrist to reveal a hidden blade he thrust towards her. The third summoned a staff and unleashed magic aimed directly at her head.

But to their shock, their attacks—

“…huh?”

“?!”

“what…?”

—transformed into harmless bubbles that floated gently to the ceiling.

The contents of the beer jug, which were actually poison, the blade meant to pierce her skin and the staff as well as the magic it launched.

Before their eyes, Roselia calmly moved her bookmark and placed it on the page she stopped, put the book into the bookcase she bought and set it on the table.

She then picked up her glass of grape wine, turned toward the man who had attempted to drench her in poisoned beer, and emptied the contents onto his face.

Despite being pure grape wine, as it splashed onto the man’s face, it turned acidic, burning his skin and eyes.

He screamed in agony, the piercing sound shocking everyone out of their stupor.

The barmaster, who had been observing the scene with shocked eyes, swiftly pulled out a magic staff from under the counter and pointed it at Nadarus, shouting.

“They’re the devils our god told us about!”

Hearing his words, all the patrons of the bar quickly drew their weapons, unleashing their magic powers and auras.

The room filled with an intense, hostile energy as they regarded the two siblings with deep-seated animosity, ready to strike.

Despite this, the two remained calm. Nadarus removed the blade piercing his jacket, revealing he hadn’t even taken any damage.

“Evan said they’re too far gone, and there’s no coming back for them, right?”

“Yes.”

“So, there’s no problem if I end them, right?”

Roselia looked at her brother who inquired this with his eyes closed, before nodding in affirmation.

“No problem, at all.”

“Good.”

The moment Nadarus spoke, Roselia quickly retrieved a pair of glasses and put them on, a mere second before her brother’s energy exploded from his body with a terrifying pressure, forcing everyone to their knees.

[Incarnation of Greed.]

And then, the building went ‘BOOM’.
