Chapter 819 - 819: Seraphael! [Monthly Bonus 1]
The entire building exploded with demonic energy, a thunderous blast that sent shockwaves rippling through the city.
From the flames, smoke, and ruins, a colossal red humanoid avatar emerged, half-body yet towering, wielding a great sword twice its height.
Nadarus, activating his idiosyncrasy, siphoned the physical strength of more than half the existences above Level 400 in the city, channelling that might into his massive avatar’s blade which he swung downward.
The giant blade crashed into the ground with a cataclysmic force, splitting buildings in two and igniting gas cylinders in fiery explosions.
The entirety of Knidyma seemed to groan and shatter, a gaping fissure forming from the impact, splitting the city in two. Nadarus dragged the colossal blade across the ground, demolishing structures in its path, sending debris flying and smacking adventurers and mages who had taken to the air, out of the sky.
From the ruins of the city, thousands of CelSols who had been hidden underground emerged, their faces contorted with rage.
They had not anticipated Nadarus would begin his onslaught with such reckless abandon, not caring about civilian lives—a grave underestimation of the Demon of Greed.
The hesitation that had once plagued him in similar situations over 1000 years ago was long gone; now, he acted without a second thought.
The CelSols charged at the giant avatar, unleashing celestial energy attacks, light and holy magic meant to exploit a demon’s weakness.
Beams of radiant energy and holy flames streaked through the sky, converging on Nadarus’ avatar, but the avatar’s defensive power was immense, tanking the barrage of attacks with ease. The celestial energy dissipated harmlessly against its demonic hide.
With a swift, almost contemptuous motion, the avatar raised its massive blade and swung it at sonic speed.
***WHOOOSSSHHH!!!!
The blade cleaved through the air with a deafening roar, slashing hundreds of CelSols out of the sky in an instant, their bodies disintegrating under the sheer force of the attack.
The overwhelming power of the strike overshadowed the screams of pain ringing out from all around, the cries of agony drowned in the cacophony of destruction.
Down at the base of Nadarus’ Avatar, Roselia sat, her table and chair completely intact. She took off her glasses, revealing the splinters of wood that had gotten stuck on the lenses and dusted them off with a cloth.
While the shockwaves from the sonic booms Nadarus was causing with his supersonic slashes rippled out omnidirectionally, shattering the earth around, she was busy putting her book into her Storage Ring artifact.
As the ground cracked and splintered, massive fissures spreading like spiderwebs from the epicentres of his attacks, she silently got to her feet and dusted her clothes, before finally turning her gaze towards the city in flames around her.
She took in the sight of the thousands of CelSols, adventurers and soldiers, all screaming ‘KILL THE DEVILS’ with maddened glint in their eyes.
The woman unfurled her wings and flew up to the top of Nadarus’ avatar, taking a seat on its shoulder to give herself a bird’s eye view of the city while she searched for the presence of their target.
‘He’s not on the ground…above?’
Her gaze turned upwards and she snapped her fingers, casting a Tier 4 spell that rained fiery hailstones down from the skies, targeting the ‘CelSol Commanders’.
However, before the hailstones hit their targets, the skies parted and a rain of light spears fell, piercing each hailstone and destroying it before it reached its mark.
Golden light poured down from above, and seeing this the eyes of all the inhabitants of Knidyma, including those who had literally just witnessed their family members die before their eyes because of Nadarus’ attacks, shone with a fanatic light as they screamed out.
“Our god has descended!!”
The CelSols genuflected, while the civilians bowed with their knees and heads touching the ground. Adventurers, Soldiers, mercenaries…it mattered not who or what they were, they all displayed the same kind of behaviour and the sight of it made Nadarus cringe.
‘Are they stupid? Did they all forget that I’m waving a giant sword around and busting their city?’
He wanted to continue attacking, but Roselia phased her hand through his avatar and stopped him.
“Why?”
“Their arrogance. I want it to peak.”
Nadarus remembered Roselia stating that Knidyma was ‘full of hubris’ earlier, and he quickly understood what she wanted to do. As such, he dismissed his avatar and dropped to the ground, before extending his hands to catch Roselia and set her on the ground.
Meanwhile, the new entrant slowly hovered in the air above, radiating an ethereal glow from his form.
His tall and muscular frame was adorned in a mix of flowing robes and shimmering silver armour glimmering with light. His wings, vast and magnificent, were imbued with a soft luminescence, casting an angelic aura around him.
His piercing blue eyes and flowing silver hair added to his ‘divine’ presence, exuding an aura of supreme authority and grace.
With his hands clasped together, he spoke.
[The Vile Devils are here. They have wreaked havoc and killed innocents. But worry not, my faithful, for I shall grant those who have fallen at the hands of the wicked devils a place in paradise.]
Cheers of joy rang out from the civilians, a sight that made Nadarus sigh and shake his head, understanding why Evan said they were all ‘too far gone’.
[My faithful, the wicked devils would continue to claim the lives of innocents if they are not put down. My divine soldiers shall fight alongside you, so take up arms and avenge your fellow believers who have fallen at their hands.]
When he said this, all eyes turned to the two demon siblings, each carrying fierce hostility.
Adventurers drew swords, CelSols roused their energy, and even civilians picked up rakes, cutlasses and many other makeshift weapons and pointed them at the two.
In the sky, Seraphael spread out his arms and cast a spell, releasing celestial energy waves that rained down on the thousands of people surrounding the demons.
At the same time, Nadarus disabled his idiosyncrasy on Roselia’s request, creating the illusion that whatever Seraphael had just done had nullified his power.
This raised the confidence of the combatants, and in addition to the power boost the spell gave them, they felt unstoppable.
“Sister, this…”
“It’s a brainwashing spell.”
Roselia and Nadarus had seen this spell used by gods in other worlds. It did increase the power of those whom it was cast on, but it also brainwashed the targets into fanatical zealots loyal to the caster with no regard for their injuries and would keep on fighting until they were broken and dead.
“Our god has opened our eyes!”
“Look at their wretched appearances!”
“Vile Devils!”
“Destroy the abominations!”
“Purge them with holy fire!”
“For the glory of our god!”
“Smite the enemies of light!”
Upon hearing their words, Nadarus looked down at himself and then at Roselia beside him, before turning back to the crowd surrounding them.
“Wretched what? Are you on drugs or something?”
He could not understand how anyone could see him and Roselia and the word ‘wretched’ would come out from their mouths; unless they weren’t right in the head, which was certainly the case for these ones.
Leaving aside his apprehension at being called ‘wretched’, the crowd charged forward with ‘righteous fury, a cacophony of battle cries and spells filling the air.
Adventurers lunged with swords glowing with elemental enchantments, CelSols unleashed beams of searing celestial light, and mercenaries hurled explosive potions that burst into flames on impact. Civilians, now zealots, swung their makeshift weapons with surprising ferocity, aiming for any exposed part of the demon siblings.
Magic crackled and whirled around them—fireballs the size of carriages, icy shards sharp enough to pierce steel, bolts of lightning that zigzagged chaotically through the air, and waves of raw kinetic force that could pulverize rock.
The sky was alight with a riot of colours as spells and attacks collided, creating a storm of destruction aimed solely at Roselia and Nadarus.
Faced with all this, Nadarus silently double-tapped his foot on the ground. The earth responded to his command, and with a rumble, a translucent crystal dome surged up around him and his sister.
This was his Geomantic Wrath skill, a power gained from the Deceased Celestial Qutia. The dome shimmered with a light glow, reflecting the furious onslaught of magic and steel. Fireballs dissipated into harmless sparks, lightning bolts sizzled out of existence, and blades shattered against the seemingly impenetrable barrier.
The translucent crystal dome not only shielded them from the physical and magical onslaught but also deflected the celestial energy attacks with surprising efficacy. Having originally belonged to a Celestial, it was very resistant to Celestial energy which Demons were inherently weak to.
“Ready, yet?”
He asked Roselia and she shook her head, looking at the crowd attacking them with a calm gaze.
“Weaken your barrier Nadarus, it’d make them more confident.”
“Okey dokey.”
The man did as his sister said and soon, the CelSols’ beams of light that splashed against the dome like water against a rock, finally started cracking it lightly.
Roselia watched as their expressions brightened up—the reaction she wanted to see.
‘They’re all full of confidence, and Seraphael’s presence is making them arrogant. They feel they can do anything as far as he has their backs.
What’s more, Seraphael himself is a literal floating ball of pride.’
She made her assessment of the situation, looking up at the FCD who watched the scene on the ground in disbelief.
The sight of his own comrade’s power being wielded by a demon shattered his composed facade. His eyes widened, and for the first time, his expression cracked, revealing a mixture of shock and anger.
[You…! How do you possess Qutia’s power?!]
Seraphael’s voice echoed with incredulity, his celestial energy flaring with barely contained rage. In response, Nadarus smirked and replied.
“I took it from his corpse, how else would I have it?”
His taunt was very effective as Seraphael nearly couldn’t hold himself back and almost attacked in person. The Celestial held himself back at the last moment, rousing his celestial energy and releasing it in a sphere around him.
[My Faithful! The Wicked Devils have a powerful barrier, gained from stealing the powers of a god! But worry not, I shall transform this land to ‘Paradise’, and in Paradise, their vile powers don’t work!]
The mention of ‘Paradise’ nearly made the crowd go wild with joy, and just when Nadarus was about to question what sort of weed he was gonna put them on, the celestial energy Seraphael released transformed.
“…”
“This…?!”
Seeing Nadarus’ expression change, Seraphael smirked as he activated his technique.
[Bounded Field: Paradise of the Faithful!]
