Evan’s eyes shot open and he instinctively summoned his sword into his hands when he sensed a demon presence outside the door.

However, in the next moment, he sighed and unsummoned it, swapping the sword for his mask as he recalled the events of the previous day.

*KNOCK!

“Sir Evan.”

“…I’m awake.”

Evan got off the bed as he replied, and just then the door opened to reveal a young-looking demon maid who stepped in and bowed.

“Good morning, Sir.”

“…Morning”

When he responded to her greeting, she raised her head and began speaking in a flat and measured tone.

“Breakfast is ready. Would you prefer it brought here, or would you prefer to have it in the dining hall?”

“Bring it here.”

“Very well.

Lord Sargon tasked me to inform you that his return will be delayed as he is currently seeking an audience with ‘His Excellency’, King McEnda II, regarding how best to handle your situation.

Until his return with a verdict, you are to take lessons from General Valren and, as Lord Sargon put it, ‘acquaint yourself with how things work in this time’.”

Evan nodded silently, and with another bow, the maid turned and left the room. Alone once more, Evan sank into a nearby chair, running a hand through his hair as he contemplated his current situation.

He was currently within the Demon Army Headquarters in the city of Militopolis, the centre of the South Eastern Gledea Region, where Alvey was Premier.

After yesterday’s meeting, Alvey and McEnda had departed for the Rhigor continent, where the Dimensional Rift leading to Gozon was located.

McEnda said he had forgotten something at the Lunar Outpost, while Alvey headed there to submit a report for what he called the ‘Annual Gozonian Interstellar Summit’. However, Evan’s sudden arrival forced Alvey to draft an additional report and inform the planet’s Rulers about his unexpected presence.

‘They wouldn’t suddenly demand to see me… right?’

Evan thought about that unwanted scenario, casting a quick household spell to freshen up just as another knock came at the door.

“Come in.”

The maid from earlier opened the door, entering with food for him which she placed on the table, bowed lightly, then left.

She, alongside the other servants, were unsure of his reason for being here, but since Alvey was the one who ordered them to attend to him, they treated him hospitably.

The previous evening, after activating Lethe, Evan had taken a brief stroll and overheard the servants whispering about his presence. According to them, the last time Alvey had ordered them to attend to someone especially like this was when Arthur arrived.

They also added that Arthur had turned out to be a MASSIVE help to the Demon Army, so they guessed Evan might be the same, which wasn’t an entirely off-base assumption as Alvey indeed planned to enlist Evan’s assistance during his time there.

This courteous treatment, Evan knew, was not just a show of hospitality—it was also a subtle means of keeping him comfortable, to prevent any thoughts of escape. He wasn’t clueless about this, but he didn’t say anything, recognizing that, for now, his options were limited.

Not too long after eating, Arthur randomly showed up to check on him, as well as to lead him to the place where Sigesi was.

The reactions the servants had to Arthur were quite the sight to see, as despite being respectful and bowing their heads as he passed, the female demons couldn’t help but sneak glances at the silver-haired boy.

A few whispers he overheard informed him of the existence of a ‘fan club’ amongst the demonesses of the Army, with members ranging from servants to some Generals.

‘A Fan club with Demon Generals? Just what has this guy been up to?’

Evan was very, VERY curious.

While having such speculations, they arrived in a small conference room where Sigesi was handling some paperwork.

She looked up when he entered and gestured for him to sit down before turning to Arthur and posing a question.

“Are you joining us?”

“Yeah. I don’t have any mercenary jobs for today and I’m bored.”

He shrugged a reply as he plopped down on one of the chairs, putting his legs across the table before pulling out a portable console from his Subspace—a pocket dimension created in the in-between space but was loosely connected to the normal 3rd-dimensional space.

It was the ‘Pro Max’ upgrade of Evan’s Inventory Skill and when Evan became a Legendary and could manipulate actual Universal laws, then he’d be able to create one for himself.

The size of one’s subspace was dependent on their maximum energy levels, and Arthur’s energy levels were even higher than the Sovereign Sigesi, so he could stuff entire cities inside that thing and still have space left over.

As for Evan, he was more concerned with the console Arthur was using than the subspace itself.

“You’d be with us for a while, and you can’t exactly work with us if you do not know how things go around here.”

Sigesi’s voice brought his attention back to her, and he turned to the blue-eyed woman who reduced the ambient temperature with her mere presence.

“And you’re the one who’s gonna fill me in on what I need to know?”

“Yes.”

Just as Sigesi replied, Arthur, who was playing a game Evan found vaguely familiar, chipped in.

“It’s time for the stylish Info Dumping in the form of a conversation.”

When he said this, Evan couldn’t help but question him about his words.

“I noticed this yesterday, but it seems you have a habit of breaking the Fourth…”

“The Fourth piece of paper?”

“I was gonna say ‘Wall’ but these days, it’s more of a ‘piece of paper’ rather than a ‘wall’.”

Evan nodded in agreement with Arthur’s analogy, while Sigesi looked at the both of them with utter confusion in her eyes.

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t worry about it, Sigesi.”

Arthur spoke to quell her curiosity, adding that she wouldn’t understand even if he explained. That only made her more curious, but she had work to do so she couldn’t afford to waste too much time.

She turned towards Evan and began her lesson.

“Where do we start?

You know of Gozon, do you not?”

“Yeah. I know you guys have been in the world-conquering business for a very long time and have a penchant for Prime Worlds like this one.”

“That’s about the basics.”

The woman responded to Evan’s concise summary of Gozon, before tapping the table and switching on a magic projector.

“Gozon is a world with an over 70% Demon race population, hence, most have taken to calling it the ‘Demon World’. That’s wrong as there are other races on the planet; they’re just not as numerous as the demons.”

This was the first time Evan heard of other races living on Gozon, but thinking about it logically, it made sense that there were others.

Gozon had conquered other worlds with other races, so there was no way they wouldn’t bring back natives of those other worlds to their own.

“Gozon’s society is a combination of an Aristocracy and a Meritocracy. I-“

“Hold on. How do you work an aristocracy and a meritocracy together??”

Evan had to cut Sigesi off to understand how they meshed those two different political systems together and the woman calmly explained.

“Separation.

Our Military, headed by the Interstellar Administration is 100% Meritocratic. It matters not if you are a commoner, Lower or Upper Class noble, if you do not produce results, you would be demoted and lose your privileges.”

“True that. Alvey’s a Lower Class noble, but he has the same Rank as McEnda who’s a…?”

Arthur added, ending his statement with a question which Sigesi answered.

“Zeroth Rank.”

Evan, who was unaware of how Gozon’s Aristocracy worked, was confused and Sigesi explained to him.

“There are 11 Ranks in our Nobility.

The Tenth Rank is the lowest, and the Zeroth Rank is the highest. Each Rank (except Zeroth) is divided into Lower and Upper Divisions.

There exist only 71 Zeroth Rank Families, which may sound like much, but when you consider our planet’s population, it is tiny.

Each Zeroth Rank family is a family where the current generation of 72 Demon Kings comes from. As Demon King Westley is not Gozonian, he doesn’t have any ‘Family’, so to speak.”

“Current generation? So, if the Demon King were to lose their title…?”

“The family would fall to the ‘Upper First’ Rank.

Sigesi answered her question and Evan nodded in understanding. The woman went on to further explain that both she and McEnda were Zeroth Ranks. But even though they held the same rank, the ‘McEnda’ Archdemon Bloodline had more prestige since there had always been a ‘McEnda’ in every generation of Demon Kings and they’d never dropped from Zeroth.

Sigesi’s ‘Valren’ family only gained theirs in her grandfather’s generation.

As for Alvey, although his paternal family was a ‘Lower Fourth’, he was technically a ‘Lower Eighth’ since he had been expelled and was currently affiliated with his maternal family.

“Wait, Alvey was expelled from his family?!”

This was something Evan never knew, as it was not mentioned in Aidos Online, nor had Roselia or any of the other Seven Deadly Sins in the future mentioned it.

“Yes. It’s a famous story.

His paternal family is one that consists of ‘High-Demons’ alone, but Alvey was born as a normal breed demon.

As such, they expelled him from the family since they’re the elitist type that looks down on normal demon breeds.

Alvey’s mother left the family alongside him and returned to her original family, the ‘Lower Eighth’ Sargon Family.”
