Chapter 864 - 864: Margaux [Monthly Bonus 2]
A surprised Arthur questioned why he was the subject of McEnda’s bet, but his question was met with laughter and agreement from the others.
Alvey, who had been indifferent until now, argued that the newcomers should have been briefed about Arthur through his reports, so they should know better than to cause trouble.
However, McEnda countered that many likely didn’t bother reading the lengthy report, which might lead to misunderstandings.
McEnda further explained that several factors could provoke the new generals: Arthur’s youth, his rank as a Major General (which outranked more than half of those present), and the mysterious inability to sense his Level due to his Concealment Ring.
Alvey, skeptical, questioned why anyone would challenge Arthur when none of the seasoned generals present had an issue with him.
McEnda, however, cautioned that Alvey might be overestimating people’s sensibility. Fancy words aside, he was saying people could act stupid even if you put neon lights telling them NOT to.
After some thought, Alvey decided to take McEnda’s bet, placing a box filled with a terrifying amount of demonic energy on the table as his wager.
The bet sparked excitement among the demons, who were eager to see who would win, though some expressed concern about potential repercussions from the losing side—Alvey and McEnda were their superiors, after all.
As the bet over whether newcomers would cause trouble for Arthur began, a High-Rank Demon rushed forward to join in, followed by smaller bets among the other demons.
Seeing this, Evan just shook his head and shifted his focus to the Magic power marks on the Demons who were Margaux’s targets.
‘No movements yet.’
Right after, he, as well as everyone else, sensed some powerful presences approaching the hall, and moments later, a group of over 50 newcomers—including Vampires, Demons, Dark Elves, Fallen Angels, and Dark Dragons—entered.
‘Ohh! Fallen Angels! If I had access to those in Devil III, I could run a build focused on a mix of high magic and physical attack stats.
Their wings would give them high base agility and since they’d have both dark magic and resistance to holy magic, then they’d be the best to use as evasion DPS units.’
Evan was busy formulating builds for the game he was playing before he came here and, in the meantime, some of the new entrants flaunted their auras to assert dominance.
While this intimidated some, the High-Rank Demons under Alvey and McEnda were unfazed, and the two leaders themselves remained calm, scrutinizing the new arrivals.
The newcomers, in turn, assessed the room, using appraisal skills on the others. Many of them noticed Arthur, who stood out as the youngest and only Two-Star General among Three-Star Generals, but who appeared more interested in his game than in them.
Arthur told Evan he was only here to check if anyone reacted to his Pseudo-Authority like Artemisia, Beatrix and Evan did, but so far, none had so Arthur was beginning to lose interest.
‘Is his Pseudo-Authority the reason why he wanted Artemisia and Beatrix to stay? Exactly what did he see with it?’
As Evan theorized this, one of the newly arrived High-Rank Demons, puzzled by Arthur’s presence, questioned why a seemingly powerless boy was among such elites.
His loud voice caught the attention of everyone in the hall. When Arthur continued to ignore him, the High-Rank Demon grew frustrated and attempted to forcefully grab Arthur’s attention by releasing a trace of hostility.
This action, however, backfired immediately as the collective, intense gazes of over 100 other Transcendents in the hall nearly crushed him, warning him not to go any further.
‘The pressure is intense!!’
Evan silently shifted away from Arthur to avoid getting caught up in the crossfire, shaking his head as he admired Arthur’s boldness.
‘He said he was the only non-Deity in his family, so I guess he’s used to stronger pressures than this.’
Arthur, having just finished his game, finally acknowledged the demon. Calmly, he reminded the demon that his rank of Major General had been granted by the Demon Kings themselves, suggesting that it was for a good reason.
As he stood and buttoned his cuffs, Arthur activated his two Pseudo-Authorities of time and destruction, letting their energies subtly surge across the room.
This display of power was felt differently by those present. Most Transcendents only sensed a burst of energy, but those with high law comprehension or Pseudo-Authorities noticed something unusual, though the sensation was too fleeting to grasp fully.
Only Superior Stages like Alvey and McEnda realized that Arthur had scanned everyone in the hall with his Pseudo-Authorities, though they couldn’t determine which authority had done the scanning.
Arthur’s true intention was to use this moment to discreetly confirm that none of the newcomers triggered any significant response from his Pseudo-Authority.
Just as Evan wondered what Arthur was looking for, his Track Down skill abruptly activated.
“Arthur, we got a hit.”
“Already?”
“Yeah. One just moved 20 km in an instant.”
Hearing Evan’s reply, Arthur turned toward Alvey and McEnda, who were seated nearby and spoke.
“The fish has caught the bait. I’m gonna go reel it in.”
“Don’t kill it. We need to know how it got its hands on that platoon’s information.”
“No problem.”
Arthur nodded, wrapping cosmic energy around Evan. Before leaving, he pointed to the High-Rank Demon who made a bet with McEnda and added.
“Also, McEnda won the bet.”
“Why’d you have to remind him?!”
The room erupted in laughter at the interaction, while McEnda silently extended his hand, palm up, signalling the Demon to pay up.
Arthur chuckled along with the others, then used Greater Teleportation, warping himself and Evan out of the hall.
The suddenness of their departure left the newcomers wide-eyed, unable to discern when Arthur’s magic had even begun to activate.
Noticing their bewildered expressions, the others laughed even harder and reassured them.
“Hahaha! Don’t worry, you’d get used to his antics.”
◇ ◇ ◇
Arthur directly teleported Evan to the designated location where they had set their Conditional Spell’s trap. The area was encased within a powerful Spatial Barrier, crafted by Alvey himself, so unless Margaux possessed a Deity Level artifact, there was no way she could break free.
As they arrived, they were greeted by the sight of a figure clad in black coveralls, surrounded by a shimmering, translucent white wall, with an unconscious demon lying nearby.
Having been given control of the barrier by Alvey, Arthur effortlessly warped himself and Evan inside, their sudden appearance immediately drawing the figure’s attention.
She was futilely attempting to dismantle the barrier using a peculiar form of rune magic.
“Margaux Bonnet.”
“?!”
Arthur’s voice sliced through the air as he approached, hands casually tucked into his pockets. Margaux couldn’t sense any energy from him, a fact that only heightened her wariness.
“You don’t know me, do you?”
Her silence was answer enough. The Aramisians had no data on Arthur’s appearance, which left Evan perplexed.
‘Didn’t he destroy one of their major cities? And get involved in that Triton’s Ark stuff? Then how don’t they know what he looks like?’
The answer to Evan’s questions soon became clear as Arthur reached into his subspace and spoke.
“You’re about to.”
When his hand emerged, it held a black featureless mask, which he slipped on before disabling his aura concealment.
“?!”
‘Silver hair, glowing odd-coloured eyes and that mask…he’s the ‘Silver Summoner’!’
Though her face was obscured, Margaux’s body flinching was enough to show she recognised the Black Mask Arthur wore.
Seeing this, it finally made sense to Evan why Arthur could waltz into Aramisian territory without hiding his face.
‘He uses a mask when with the Demons…’
Arthur removed the mask and casually tossed it back into his subspace before speaking.
“Now you know what I look like, how about you return the favour?”
Evan was about to object, certain there was no way she’d willingly take hers off, but Arthur continued speaking.
“Oh, that wasn’t a request, by the way.”
The moment he said that, Evan blinked. When his eyes opened, Arthur didn’t appear to have moved an inch, but there was now a familiar-looking gas mask in his hand.
For a brief moment, Evan experienced the same unsettling feeling he had whenever he interacted with EOTD in the future. The realization hit him—Arthur had stopped time.
Margaux, now unmasked, took a moment to register that the mask in Arthur’s hand was hers.
‘How did-?!’
Her expression twisted into a frown as Arthur chuckled, tossing the mask aside.
“Now then, you’re wanted for the Deaths of 20 Demons whom you and your son have murdered pretty gruesomely…”
Though Arthur revealed the secret behind the Vengeful Spirit she had used to kill those demons, Margaux’s face remained impassive, betraying no surprise. She could sense that neither Arthur nor Evan were demons, and she knew instinctively that Arthur, with his reputation, posed the only real threat to her.
She wasn’t wrong. At Level 714, Margaux outclassed Evan, who was still in the 500s, but Arthur was another matter entirely. His past feats—killing those at Level 800—were enough to keep her on high alert. With her spatial attunement, she could also tell that Arthur controlled the barrier, the only one capable of releasing it.
While Arthur dealt with Margaux, Evan moved towards the unconscious demon she had targeted. With a snap of Arthur’s fingers, the demon was teleported out of the barrier, leaving only Evan inside.
“…I wonder what I should do with you?”
When Arthur said this, Evan gave him a look that questioned why he was even asking such an obvious question.
‘Subdue her and bring her back to Alvey. What else is there to do?’
He was just about to voice his thoughts when Arthur suddenly turned towards him, eyes gleaming with mischief.
“Hey, Evan.”
“Huh?”
“You haven’t had a chance to ‘stretch your legs’ since you got here, right?”
That single question was all it took for Evan to grasp Arthur’s plan, and he was definitely not a fan of it.
“Dude, she’s an entire Existence Level above me!”
Margaux was a Level 714, and with her Vengeful Spirit Summoning skill, she could easily wield power far beyond that. Evan, on the other hand, was only Level 576.
Inferior Epic vs Inferior Legendary—The winner was clear before the fight even began!
“Don’t worry, you won’t die. I assure you.”
“That does NOT assure me one bit!”
Evan retorted, quickly backing away from Arthur, who closed the distance effortlessly, continuing to speak as though the situation were a casual conversation.
“I’m just curious about your fighting style. I also want to see that ‘Blessing of Destruction’ skill of yours in action.
It sounds the same as something I’ve been working on recently.”
‘Something he’s been working on?’
Evan’s curiosity was piqued, but he had no interest in a random fight with a Level 700 opponent. Pushing his thoughts aside, he focused on trying to escape the situation.
“Look, she’s trying to use Rune magic under the ground to bore an escape path!”
He tried to divert Arthur’s attention to Margaux’s subtle escape attempt, but Arthur remained unfazed, speaking as if the woman didn’t even exist.
“Since you’ve got your own Blessing of Destruction, I’d give you a ‘Blessing of Anti-Divinity’ instead. Very effective against Divine Humans like her.”
As Arthur spoke, he activated a skill, and a thin layer of silver energy enveloped Evan.
For a brief moment, sparks flickered across his skin as Arthur’s Anti-Divinity clashed with future Artemisia’s divinity that lingered on Evan. But after a second, the two energies separated, no longer interacting.
Arthur also silently cast another buff on Evan. Though Evan didn’t recognize it, he could clearly feel its empowering effects, and it only heightened his awareness that Arthur was serious about this impromptu battle.
