Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 955 - 955: Hero Killing

A blinding eruption of purple-silver energy entwined with prismatic hues illuminated the skies above Plomux High Command.

Even Alvey and the others, locked in their own battles against the Aramisian Heroes and Transcendent Dragonslayers kilometres away all witnessed the surge of power covering the sky.

Other High-Rank Demons stood momentarily dumbfounded as they recognized the energy signature to be Arthur’s.

But while they saw magic power and law energies exploding in the sky, Alvey’s vision briefly glitched, and for a few moments, he saw the cosmic energy accompanying the blast, making him the only one who truly grasped the scale of the devastation unfolding in the sky.

The Hero that Arthur and Evan had tag-teamed was launched thousands of kilometres through the air, his form a streaking blur propelled away from the explosion’s epicentre.

The shockwaves reverberated through the atmosphere, causing the very fabric of space to tremble.

Tanyth’s descent ended with a violent crash, carving out a massive crater upon impact in the middle of another battlefield. The force of his landing was akin to a meteor strike, obliterating everything within a five-kilometre radius.

Soldiers from both Gozon and Aramis alike were caught in the annihilation, their allegiances irrelevant against the devastation.

The ground convulsed, and debris rained down in all directions, persisting for close to a minute before the dust finally settled.

At the crater’s centre lay the Aramisian Hero, face down, his body broken and battered. The cosmic energy flowing into him from the planet flickered erratically, unable to remain within him due to the severe damage his soul had suffered from Arthur and Evan’s combined attack.

Evan’s prismatic flames continued to burn across his body, consuming him in brilliant hues, while Arthur’s silvery Null ate away at his existence, disintegrating fragments of his flesh with every passing second.

Space warped and distorted above the crater, and a moment later, Arthur and Evan materialized.

“Yikes…

Arthur, I think we did a lot of friendly fire…”

“I know. Alvey and McEnda aren’t gonna let me hear the end of this.”

Arthur sighed, scratching the back of his head. He had aimed to knock Tanyth deep into Plomux High Command, but he hadn’t anticipated that the demons had already pushed this far in, clashing with the Aramisian forces.

The result? A catastrophic strike that obliterated both sides indiscriminately.

“Great, just great.”

While he lamented the unintended carnage, Evan strolled over to the fallen Hero. Casually, he flipped Tanyth onto his back, pried open his eyelids, and locked eyes with him, holding his gaze for several seconds.

As soon as the notification appeared in Evan’s field of view, he let Tanyth’s body drop to the ground and turned toward Arthur, ready to speak.

However, his words died in his throat as his Danger Sense blared, warning him of two simultaneous threats.

The wounded Hero on the ground raised his shattered arm and unleashed a blast of cosmic energy toward Evan, while a Red Dragon swooped down from the clouds above, roaring fiercely as it unleashed a full-powered breath attack.

Reacting instantly, Evan activated Stout Guardian, creating the giant knight construct with a shield that interposed itself between him and the breath. At the same time, he activated Elemental Shield, conjuring an additional protective barrier.

The dual defences were meant to buy him time to teleport, but the combined speed and power of the attacks were too much. The blast tore through both shields and struck Evan just an instant before he could vanish.

Arthur, who was nearby, teleported away in a flash, reappearing beside the dragon’s head in the sky.

With a clenched fist, he threw a full-powered punch, amplifying the gravity in his strike by 25x at the moment of impact.

A resounding crack echoed as the dragon’s skull was shattered by Arthur’s space-distorting punch, with bone fragments tearing through its brain.

One jagged shard pierced clean through, emerging from the other side of its head.

The Level 890 creature’s roar was abruptly silenced, its life snuffed out in a single, devastating blow.

Ignoring the lifeless body crashing violently into the distance, Arthur descended beside Evan who was engulfed in Mesarthim’s green flames.

The aftermath of Tanyth’s energy blast had left the boy’s demon Army Uniform charred, and his skin was scalded. Even the Energem Reclaimer and the Doubler had taken damage as well.

“Thank goodness these things have self-repair…”

Evan was grateful that the creators of these two artifacts added that feature, or he’d be in a bit of a bind.

The Energem Reclaimer was the reason he could spam Limit Break as much as he could without worrying since he could just pay off his energy debt with a magic stone. As for the Doubler, it doubled the power and efficiency of his weapon, shield and other artifacts, so it was no less valuable.

As he thought this, Evan raised his gaze to the source of his injuries, but instead of the battered Hero lying prone on the ground, he found himself face-to-face with another Red Divine Dragon.

The enormous creature seemed to materialize out of thin air, positioning itself like a living barrier between the two of them and Tanyth.

“Oh…I see. The Planet saw its Hero was going to lose so it sent the other defence mechanisms…”

Heroes were the most important Defence Mechanisms of a Planet, but they were NOT the only ones. These Divine Dragons were some of the others it had.

‘So, they’re like the Iremith Family, huh? But why do they all use Dragons? I understand Dragons are a strong race and all, but dragonslayers exist.

Oh well, that’s not my problem.’

Cutting off his thoughts there, Evan shifted his focus to the Dragon before him. Beside him, Arthur raised his hand and conjured a summoning circle, about to call forth his own Dragon summon when a third dragon swooped down from above and snatched the injured Tanyth, before shooting skywards in an instant.

Both Arthur and Evan froze in stunned silence for a moment.

“…” “…”

Then, in perfect synchronization, they broke the stillness with outraged cries.

“”Hey! We weren’t done ‘beating up/experimenting on’ that guy yet!!!””

Their words, questionable at best, were lost to the wind as they dashed after the retreating black dragon. The Red Divine Dragon in front of them roared, unfurling its massive wings as it moved to block their path, but the pair didn’t bother engaging it.

Their bodies warped through space as they teleported behind it simultaneously, however, the Dragon didn’t ignore them as they did to it.

[Everlasting Chains!]

The Red Dragon used the same skill Evan had, causing glowing red chains to erupt from the ground and shoot to ensnare both boys, coiling around their legs and yanking them back down toward the ground.

‘Annihilation Sphere.’

Arthur acted in that instant, unleashing a pulse of destruction law energy that turned the chains to dust before they could pull him to the ground.

The teen godslayer landed on his feet and turned towards the dragon with a glare, while Evan conjured a void step beneath his feet. Unfurling his white wings, Evan launched himself off the energy platform, a burst of speed propelling him after the fleeing black dragon.

The dragon, sensing its pursuer drawing near, glanced back with slitted eyes and unleashed a barrage of elemental magic. Bolts of fire, shards of ice, and arcs of lightning streaked through the air toward Evan—a wrong choice of elements to use.

Evan raised his left hand and summoned the Gazebind Aegis, blocking the lightning strikes. He twisted mid-air to dodge the spiralling flames, before hijacking control over the black dragon’s flame magic and using its own flames to block the ice shards that came after, melting it mid-flight.

Thanks to Arthur’s Time Acceleration buff and his basic wind magic, Evan boosted forward with even greater speed, cutting through the sky like a comet.

Within moments, he closed the gap, teleporting directly above the fleeing dragon.

A void step materialized underfoot, and Evan pushed off with explosive force. Spinning to gather momentum, his form blurred into a streak of golden light as he descended, his leg coming down in an axe kick.

“Collapse!”

Evan’s heel slammed into the dragon’s back with bone-crushing force, the kinetic energy reverberating through its massive frame. The airborne beast plummeted, scales fracturing under the pressure as cracks spider-webbed across its armour-like scales.

Prismatic flames erupted from Evan’s kick, searing through the gaps in its broken scales. The heat was unbearable, igniting the tender flesh beneath and detonating the scales from within.

Each piece of the armour-like scales popped off with sharp explosions, the dragon writhing and screaming in agony as it tumbled from the sky.

Its descent ended in a thunderous crash, the ground trembling as the beast’s massive body struck the earth.

The Black Dragon roared in pain and tried to attack, but Arthur teleported behind it and grabbed its tail with one hand. Using all his strength, Arthur lifted the dragon, flinging its body into the air.

“Romrintet, Stelan. You’re up.”

Two summoning circles manifested on his sides and the Divine Dragon and godslayer he had called for emerged. He transmitted his intent to them and they charged at the black dragon to finish it off, while he focused on Tanyth.

“His soul is damaged…It can’t accept the planet’s power again.”

Evan had destroyed a fair bit of souls, especially those of Demonic Hand members. Due to this, he was rather sensitive to souls and could tell how damaged Tanyth’s soul was even though he couldn’t see the cosmic energy leaking out of Tanyth’s body.

As for Arthur who could see said cosmic energy, he not only saw that Tanyth was losing the planet’s power but was becoming even weaker than he was before he gained it.

‘As I thought, there’s no way that he wouldn’t have any drawbacks for using Cosmic energy.

If left as is, I don’t think he’d die…but he’d probably suffer under Causality so much that he might wish for death. This planet would also suffer repercussions too…’

Destruction energy coiled around Arthur’s leg as he stepped forward and pressed his foot down on Tanyth’s stomach.

The potent law energy seeped into the Hero’s body, severing the final tether between his soul and the planet’s power.

The destructive force gnawed at his soul, fracturing it further and eliciting a gut-wrenching scream that echoed across the battlefield.

“That sounds like it hurts…”

Evan commented, his tone almost playful and Arthur responded while lifting his foot from Tanyth’s body.

“I’m wounding his soul, of course it does.”

Chuckling at Arthur’s response, Evan drew his sword as he stepped closer. His eyes met the half-dead Tanyth’s as he spoke.

“No hard feelings.”

Without another word, Evan plunged his blade into Tanyth’s forehead. The sword pierced clean through, the tip emerging from the back of his skull and embedding itself into the ground beneath.

[Level Up]

The expected level-up notification arrived, but it didn’t end there.

EXP was made up of many things, including Soul Fragments, Existential Records, and pure Energy.

Right now, part of the Existential Records in the EXP Evan just absorbed contained Records of a ‘Hero’, and the system had detected that.

Immediately, the Universe’s Devour Class System’s Planetary Defence Matrix and Error Identification Matrix reacted.
