Chapter 970 - 970: The Progenitor's Proposition II
After Arthur and Evan returned, Jamie asked if Arthur planned to return to Valmont in the future. Arthur replied without hesitation, confirming he would return once he reached the Deity Realm in a few years.
When Jamie asked if Arthur would remain affiliated with them, Arthur confirmed it, emphasizing his connection to his Devil King ancestor who had helped Gozon win wars in the past—acts that had earned Arthur special treatment from the Demon Rulers.
McEnda II remarked on Arthur’s potential, noting his godslayer status and rapid rise to power, which would make him a valuable asset in dealing with gods. The demons were impressed, with some eager to see how Arthur’s power would grow, potentially affecting all gods on entire planets in the future.
Arthur’s influence had already helped in several battles, and requests for his special Anti-Divinity missiles were made by Malorum.
Demon King Agriker also mentioned Arthur’s summoning skills, joking about his “Silver Demon Summoner” title, which Arthur found too long.
Finalising, Jamie then raised Arthur’s rank within the Gozonian army to Lieutenant General. His new rank was special as it granted him authority within all Gozon colonies in the Orithyia Galaxy, leaving everyone shocked.
To say that the reaction was one of shock would be an understatement—99% of the hall was visibly stunned.
Typically, the ranks held by soldiers from Battlefront worlds had a defined ‘Effective Range.’
This range was meant to prevent situations where a General from one world could assert authority over another, causing potential conflicts. If a General from another world gave orders that contradicted the local Generals’ commands, it would create confusion among the soldiers, who might face punishment for choosing the wrong side.
To avoid such chaos, this ‘Effective Range’ was established, limiting their authority over forces that weren’t under their direct command—except in emergencies.
But now, they had effectively given Arthur free rein to exercise his authority on any planet within their territory.
Only Four-Star Generals like Alvey held more authority in their respective worlds.
To prevent any potential conflicts with him exercising this new Authority, all commissioned officers—Second Lieutenants to Generals—would be informed about the extended range of his command.
While this could disrupt the military structure, the Demon Rulers saw it as a strategic investment, given Arthur’s potential and his intention to remain affiliated with them.
Arthur wasn’t the only one with expanded authority—Alvey, McEnda, and Barron saw their ranges increase as well.
The Rulers also planned for Alvey and McEnda to oversee Aramis once conquered, a position typically reserved for Half-Deities.
On a side note, Evan received a temporary Lieutenant Colonel Rank since he was officially “Arthur’s Aide”. The boy couldn’t help but shake his head with a wry smile beneath his mask as he accepted the badge signifying his new rank.
After the rewards were given, the Demon Rulers turned to Arthur’s proposition about protecting and sheltering godslayers from the gods.
Malorum agreed it was beneficial for both sides, as the godslayers would become a significant threat to the gods. The Demon Queen of Gravitas pointed out that some godslayers were already under Arthur’s employ and had proven useful.
McEnda saw potential in using them to divide the gods’ focus. The Demon King of Time suggested supporting them in rebellions on worlds where they were oppressed by gods.
Arthur agreed, suggesting they include proper combat training, but the Demon King of Time then revealed they had a counteroffer.
He wasn’t surprised by the counteroffer. He leaned back in his seat, crossed his legs, and gave a casual gesture for the Demon King to continue.
The Demon King raised his hand, outlining the deal that had been agreed upon by the others.
“We would agree to your proposition, but given the scales are heavily inclined to your favour, we’d need a little extra work to balance them.
We want you to temporarily assist in our wars on five High-Level Worlds. These are Battlefront planets where the gods and Divines have been particularly entrenched.
Your assistance could turn the tide in our favour.”
The Demon Queen of Gravitas continued after he spoke.
“Five worlds. Five decisive battles. Help us secure victory there, and we’ll ensure the godslayers are protected under our rule.
Consider it a test of your abilities—a way to silence those who might be dissatisfied with your newly granted authority within our ranks.
After the Second Phase of the Summit, many eyes will be on you. This will also serve to bolster your reputation—or rather, your infamy.”
As the Demon Rulers presented their counteroffer, Arthur placed his hand on his chin, thinking. Though only a few seconds passed, his accelerated thought speed made it feel longer.
The mention of bolstering his “infamy” showed the Rulers were aware of the political consequences of granting him free reign within their territories.
They wanted to ensure Arthur proved his worth in battle to quash any dissent within their ranks and solidify his standing both in their society and on the interstellar stage.
Arthur wasn’t quick to agree, though. He had his own counteroffer ready.
“Five worlds are a bit too much, make it two.”
He glanced between Malorum and the other rulers as he spoke, but Malorum wasn’t one to back down easily.
“Four.”
“Three.”
Arthur met Malorum’s gaze, unflinching, stating the number he had aimed for all along. There was a brief pause before Malorum looked over at Jamie and McEnda II for their reactions before agreeing with a decisive tone.
“Three it is.”
Xagthor, the Demon King of Frost, pursed his lips as he considered the revised offer.
“We would need to shorten the list we made earlier, maybe even adjust it.”
At his words, Jamie leaned back and glanced at him before speaking calmly.
“Again, Xagthor, we would NOT interfere in Sectors 27-34.”
His words elicited frowns from several Demon Rulers, clearly displeased by the limitation. But even though he noticed their reactions, Jamie maintained his stance.
“As long as I’m around, I would NOT allow any conflicts with Worlds under Uvton’s and Rilene’s domains.”
Every Demon Ruler present understood exactly who Jamie referred to, even though he only used their first names.
Uvton Delgasso and Rilene Xagna.
‘He who is Benevolent to all’ and ‘She who shapes Space itself’.
Artemisia’s Father and Beatrix’s mother—the ‘Supremes’ of the gods, comparable in status to Jamie and McEnda II among the demons.
One Demon King who was both irritated and curious, suggested they strike first in the aforementioned sectors, but Jamie dismissed the idea outright.
When another frustrated Demon King asked if Jamie’s resistance was because Uvton and Rilene were his friends, Jamie candidly admitted it.
Though he was a ‘Demon King’, Jamie was known for his close ties with certain god Kings, particularly Uvton and Rilene, who trusted him enough to let their daughters stay on Aramis during the Gozonian invasion.
Jamie never hid these ties, nor did he care what others thought of them. After all, he wasn’t a demon and had no inherent reason to harbour hostility toward gods.
“Besides, do you guys want to start a pointless war with Aidos? Uvton may keep quiet due to his calm nature, but Rilene is sure to flare up if you try to pull a fast one on her.
Last I checked, only Malorum, McEnda and I can hold her off if that happens.”
After making his stance abundantly clear, he turned back to Arthur and spoke, his voice returning to its usual calm cadence.
“Three worlds, we’ll send you the list later.”
Arthur nodded, but then spoke in his faux true voice, laced with cosmic energy that made even Transcendents wince.
|¬So, it’s a deal, then? ¬|
The power of laws in his words shifted the atmosphere, as every Demon Ruler felt the binding energy of the contract law Arthur invoked.
He wasn’t just making a verbal agreement—he was creating a binding contract.
Ironically, it was Arthur proposing the contract, despite dealing with demons.
McEnda II, satisfied, nodded and spoke in his own True Voice, affirming on behalf of all the Demon Rulers.
|It’s a deal. |
With that, the contract was sealed, ensuring neither side could back out without severe consequences.
◇ ◇ ◇
[This concludes Day One of the Summit.]
“Finally!!”
The exclamation came less than a second after the announcement, bursting from one of the 72 throned Deities.
McEnda II glanced at the man beside him, sighed, and shook his head silently.
Jamie, however, paid no attention to the commotion. He teleported directly in front of Arthur and Evan, placing a hand on each of their shoulders.
“Let’s head over to my place.”
Focusing on Arthur, he continued.
“We’d tackle your dormant Pseudo-Origin core issue as well.”
“Oh? The help would be appreciated…”
Arthur replied, his gaze briefly flicking to the Demon Queen of Gravitas. She simply waved him off, clearly trusting Jamie’s expertise to handle it.
Before teleporting them away, Jamie turned to McEnda II and tossed what looked like a glowing sphere of cosmic energy.
“Here, the vault key.”
“Wha?! We split the key in two for a reason! Why are you giving this to me?!”
“So, you can handle the rewards for today.”
McEnda II didn’t even get a chance to talk when Jamie’s cosmic energy burst out and enveloped the two boys.
In a flash, Jamie, Arthur and Evan had vanished from the Hall of Stars.
