A few hundred thousand kilometres away, Jamie reappeared with Evan and Arthur in tow. Though still within Imperium Astra, they were very far from the Interstellar Citadel.
Spreading out his spatial power to map the place, Arthur discovered that they were in the penthouse of a cloud-piercing tower.
The interior of the penthouse was nothing short of opulent. The polished floors gleamed like mirrors, reflecting the soft, ambient lighting that bathed the space in a warm glow. The walls were adorned with intricate patterns and fine art, a blend of modern sophistication and classical aesthetics.
Scattered across the plush carpet were an eclectic array of games—board games, strategy sets, and even a few arcade consoles. Though the consoles seemed out of place in such a refined setting, they somehow complemented the room’s unique charm.
The most striking feature, however, was the ceiling—a massive, curved aquarium teeming with vibrant, exotic fish from various worlds.
Their brilliant hues shimmered in the crystal-clear water, creating an ever-shifting cascade of colours that captivated the eye.
“You have one hell of a place.”
“Haha, I just stuffed a lot of things into it.”
Jamie laughed in response to Arthur’s remark as he wandered over to the kitchen counter, casually brushing aside an assortment of items to make space.
Among the things he shifted, one object tipped precariously close to the edge. Before anyone could react, it tumbled to the floor with a loud clatter.
The device popped open on impact, emitting a flurry of urgent, frantic beeps.
Jamie’s eyes widened in shock as recognition set in.
“Uh-oh.”
“What’s wrong?”
Snatching the device off the ground, Jamie’s gaze darted toward the distant Citadel.
“I think a very pissed McEnda is gonna be coming over here in a minute, so we gotta dip.”
Without waiting for a response, Jamie activated his Authority of Space, tearing open a shimmering Dimensional Rift in the middle of the room. The portal led to a destination Arthur and Evan immediately recognized.
“Quick, let’s go.”
Jamie urged before diving headfirst into the rift, leaving the two boys behind. They exchanged a glance before turning their attention to the torn space.
Evan broke the silence first, gesturing toward the arcade consoles nearby.
“I’m gonna grab a few Arcades.”
In a swift motion, Evan swept several arcade machines into his Inventory. Meanwhile, Arthur strolled over to the mini-bar, grabbing a couple of bottles of vintage wine.
With their impromptu loot secured, the two stepped into the rift, which sealed shut just as McEnda II materialized in the penthouse.
His eyes immediately locked onto the counter, where he spotted the object Jamie had dropped.
Picking it up, McEnda’s brow furrowed as realization dawned.
“Fucking hell, it was with Jamie all along?! And I’ve spent an entire year looking for it since he said it wasn’t with him!!”
His aura flared with frustration as he scanned the room, his senses searching for Jamie’s presence. But it was too late—the other Demon King was already long gone from the planet.
Clutching the device tightly, McEnda’s eyes burned with fury.
“That bastard’s gonna pay for wasting my time!”
◇ ◇ ◇
The Dimensional Rift Jamie had opened led straight to Alvey’s house in Militopolis, located in Southern Gledea on Planet Aramis.
Jamie had been here before, so pinpointing the spatial coordinates wasn’t an issue. With his High-Rank Authority of Space, creating a stable tunnel to the location was effortless.
As ‘Aramis’ itself, Jamie was more than capable of concealing his presence from the Planet’s Consciousness.
He wasn’t worried about being detected, nor did ‘Aramis’ realize that Arthur and Evan—whom it had created a barrier to specifically bar from entry—had slipped past its barrier.
Jamie’s Rift bypassed the restriction with ease.
They emerged in a random break room on the fifth floor of the mansion. Jamie scanned the cosy space before heading to a trio of circular couches arranged around a low table in the centre.
Dropping onto one of the couches with a sigh, he stretched out lazily.
“What was all that about?”
Arthur asked, taking a seat across from him and Jamie chuckled a response.
“I kinda made him waste a year searching for something that was with me. I forgot I was with it, and I told him I wasn’t with it, but it had been on my counter all this while.”
That particular penthouse was one Jamie barely used, so he hadn’t discovered that the item McEnda II was after was inside there until today.
“He’s gonna be so pissed…”
Jamie added with a laugh, his amusement not seeming the least bit tempered by the prospect.
Arthur and Evan exchanged a glance before shrugging, then unloaded the items they’d brought along.
Evan set up the arcade consoles he’d snagged, while Arthur placed the wine bottles he’d grabbed on the table between the three couches.
“Come, sit. Let’s begin. We can play the games later.”
Arthur called to Evan, gesturing to the couches and Evan nodded, taking a seat on one of the remaining couches.
With all three seated, Jamie leaned forward slightly, his expression turning more serious but still tinged with curiosity.
“I gotta say, I wasn’t expecting you both to be Grade 7 Singularities too.”
“How about we start by properly explaining this Grade stuff? I didn’t even know there were grades until ‘Gozon’ said it when we first got here.”
Evan nodded in agreement with Arthur’s statement, equally curious to learn more about the whole Grade system.
“I knew there were levels to it, but I didn’t know any of the specifics.”
From Dominik Velak’s Undead Dragon to Abigail Lowe and the Second Finger of the Demonic Hand, Evan had discovered that though they were all ‘Irregular’ they were not on the same level of ‘Irregularity’.
Hearing the two boys’ comments, Jamie raised an eyebrow before responding.
“The grading system is straightforward. Grades 1 to 3 are considered Lower Grades, 4 to 6 are Middle Grades, and Grade 7 is the Top Grade.
We can manipulate causality on a grand scale without facing consequences because the law basically takes one look at us and says, ‘No chance I’m messing with them.'”
“Well, that’s one way to put it…”
Evan muttered under his breath, and Arthur silently agreed, prompting Jamie to continue.
“Most of the time, the law doesn’t even know we exist. In its perspective, this room is empty. It purposely ignores us since trying to compute our existences would cause errors.
And if it tried to eliminate the ’cause’ of those errors—us—it would only make the ‘effect’ worse by creating even more issues.
So, as long as we stay within our limits, we’re fine.”
“And how do we know when we’re reaching that limit?”
Arthur asked, his tone cautious and Jamie’s answer wasn’t particularly reassuring.
“When you feel like causality wants to murder you and your next 10 generations…that’s your limit.”
Jamie laughed at their expressions when he said this, but he quickly reminded them that he was 100% serious before they assumed he was laughing because he was joking.
After a pause, Jamie’s demeanour softened, and he changed the subject.
“But enough about that. We haven’t properly introduced ourselves, have we?”
He gestured toward Evan, who took it as his cue to start.
“Evan Eris, Rogue Hero originating from Earth V. Some pretty messed-up things went down, and a god decided to yeet me through a Spatiotemporal magic portal. Next thing I know, I’m crashlanding smack in the middle of the Demons’ side of Aramis.”
Arthur chuckled at Evan’s wild tale and couldn’t resist adding a quip.
“Sounds like the synopsis of a light novel. I can already see the title: ‘That Time I Got Sent Through a Portal and Fell onto a World Being Invaded by Demons.’
It’s definitely gonna be a bestseller.”
Jamie, picking up on the banter, asked with a grin.
“You forgot to add the part where you’re from the future. Isn’t that why you’re masking yourself like a certain copy ninja?”
“Wait, you’ve watched that anime?”
Evan’s eyes widened at Jamie’s remark and Arthur leaned back on his couch and asked back.
“Who hasn’t?”
Jamie chuckled at their reactions, a trace of amusement in his tone.
“It’s hard to miss out on the classics, you know?”
Evan, meanwhile, was more baffled by the fact that all three of them had somehow watched the same show despite being from entirely different universes and time periods.
The other two, however, brushed past that curiosity and carried on with the conversation.
Next up on the introductions was Jamie.
“I’m Jamie Westley, Zanerth Universe’s resident Alpha hybrid. I got bored a couple thousand years ago and went to sleep for a few millennia, but even while sleeping, I got bored of dreaming so I sent out a part of my consciousness and power into a Universe I’d been to sometime in the past.
A little tweaking with cosmic energy and I gave that part an Astral body, and created a physical body for it and that now sits before you.
I played around for a bit and a couple thousand years later, I somehow ended up as a Demon King.”
Jamie finished his casual explanation with a shrug, leaving Evan unsure where to even begin processing what he’d just heard.
“You ‘somehow ended up as a Demon King’?”
Evan repeated incredulously, raising an eyebrow and Jamie nodded, looking entirely unbothered.
“It’s a bit… complicated.”
While Evan focused on Jamie’s Demon King status, Arthur was more focused on the part where the Jamie in front of them was just a fragment of his consciousness and power.
After all, this part was a High-Tier Deity.
“What’s your main body’s realm?”
“You know about the ‘Zenith Haven’?”
Jamie replied with a question of his own, and Arthur shook his head. He had never heard of that Existence Realm.
“How far off is that from ‘Grand Supreme’?”
“It’s two Realms above it.”
Arthur’s eyes widened slightly as he processed the information, but his thoughts were cut short as Evan reminded him that it was his turn for introductions.
“Arthur Vaughn, Hell Universe’s resident Progenitor godslayer. Oh, I’m a Prince too.
Anyway, I got bored at home—even though I haven’t even seen 1% of the whole Universe—so when I got my hands on a Cosmic Artifact that lets me hop Universes, I didn’t hesitate to come over to the first set of coordinates on it.
Like Evan, I fell on the Demons’ side of the planet too.”
When Arthur mentioned a Cosmic Artifact, Jamie’s gaze flicked to the wide bracelet on his right forearm.
“That’s it, right?”
Arthur wasn’t surprised that a Cosmic Being like Jamie could identify the artifact’s functions at a glance.
“Yep.”
After Arthur replied, Evan leaned forward a bit and spoke.
“You’re pretty vocal about this. Most people would normally be secretive about such an artifact.”
It was true—Arthur hadn’t made any effort to hide the Cosmic Teleporter from those who asked about it. He had his reasons.
“First off, this thing can only be used with Cosmic Energy. People who can use such are rare, even when you scale things up to a Universe’s level.”
Jamie nodded in agreement. Having spent a long time in Valmone, he knew just how scarce individuals with Cosmic Superiority were.
The ones he’d found were few enough to count on two hands.
“Secondly, only I can use this thing. And lastly…”
Arthur stood after speaking, strolling over to the window as he unstrapped the Cosmic Teleporter from his wrist.
With a casual flick, he tossed it out of the open window before teleporting back to his seat, all under the astonished gazes of Jamie and Evan.
“Give it a second.”
