Chapter 1695 - 1695: The Bird Returns
—–
“…”
A large shadow loomed over the cave where Aquarina and her friends had entered, the smell of seafood attracting the large, feathered beast, its sharp crimson eyes spinning around in anger.
As it glared at them furiously from afar, it tried to groom its feathers, but it was unable to, over half of its large, glorious beak was gone, making most things to be very difficult.
“Grrrhhh…”
With more anger, the beast spread out its massive wings, preparing to fly down the cave, and then leaped off a cliff, rushing as quickly as possible.
…
Frrssshhh…
The sound of fish, clams, shrimps, and pieces of giant lobster monster meat being fried over butter and fruit oil echoed through the caves, the sweet and buttery scent made everyone even hungrier.
Aside from Aquarina’s steamed food, Agua prepared some fried seafood made on butter and fruit oil. This fruit oil in specific was very sweet, made out of the nectar of the flower Justicio killed.
Apparently, it wasn’t just a nectar though, but a special type of oil that is also good for the skin, but that can be eaten or used for cooking.
Sweet oil of this type is perfect to leave a sweet, citric flavor to meat and seafood cooked with it, becoming a really good ingredient to carry around when camping outside.
“Smells so nice! When is it ready, Aquarina? Agua?” Silvia wouldn’t stop asking when the food was ready, she was already done preparing the table and the seats and was there just waiting.
“It will be done when it’s done, stop asking already!” Aquarina sighed, almost throwing her wooden spoon at Silvia as if it wasn’t for her self-restraint.
“I think in like a few minutes…” Agua said. “Perhaps four? Or five!”
“Uuuaaagh! That’s too much time!” Silvia complained.
“Just be patient,” Justicio said. “Let’s make some salad in the meantime, there’s some veggies here. We don’t get to eat them every day back home.”
“I don’t like veggies that much…” Silvia said.
“Yeah I know… Now just help me out!” Justicio said.
As the group worked, Pyuku was glancing at the cliff from the cave’s entrance.
The cave’s entire size was rather small, there was a long interior but nothing else than that.
There weren’t any paintings either, but the group did find some remains of the tribe from before.
There were pots painted with bright colors, mostly cracked and broken to pieces though.
And there were also several plates, which were in good state, most of them crafted out of clay.
The party washed them and decided to reuse them to eat their food, as they were rather beautifully painted with skies and flowers.
Perhaps a historian or something would get mad they were using relics from thousands of years ago like this… But not even Agua really cared much, as long as they brought them back to her mother later.
There was a small storage area in the village where they left these remains from the “Wind Tribe” stored, which were open for the public once a year as part of their festivities.
In there, people that visit the oasis or the villagers themselves can explore the ancient relics left behind, most of them rather ordinary, with little to no magic power within them.
They were known for being a rather simple tribe already, their remnants not being magically powered at all.
Therefore, it was judged they weren’t elves, as elves possess so much magic power that it is within their culture, even the oldest, to create magical artifacts or items for their daily lives.
If what Aquarina said was right, then they were indeed Anima, people known for being exceptional in physical strength and physical abilities, born with beast traits that give them an edge over other races.
However, they’re often times not that magically gifted, and often times tend to have the same magic levels as an average human, needing a lot of training to get it to grow, unlike elves who are born with gifted magical power and spiritual abilities.
“Hmm…” Agua thought these many things as she cooked, and then looked that the food was mostly ready. “Alright, I think it’s almost ready guys! Let’s serve the food and-“
“CRYAAAAH!”
Before Agua could finish her words, everyone heard a loud bird-like cry coming from outside. Pyuku’s eyes widened as he saw a massive flying figure descend with fury.
FLUOSH!
Surrounding the bird-like monster there was a gigantic tornado made of emerald winds, shaking the skies and creating intense winds that flew everywhere!
“Uwaah?!”
Silvia was almost blown away as she was quite close to the entrance, Pyuku reacted quickly, expanding his body to create a barrier using his own slimy body to cover the cave’s entrance.
“It’s that damn bird! It’s back again!” Justicio said. “Dammit, this time I’m going to get you!”
“Wait, Justicio!” Aquarina stopped him before he charged recklessly at it. “I don’t think you can fight that thing on your own…”
“Huh?”
As Justicio looked at Aquarina with confusion, Aquarina managed to glance at the brown-feathered creature, her eyes growing rather surprised.
[Cursed Avian Sky King: Quetzalcoatl (Tier 8: Rank 6)]
“It’s a Tier 8 Monster!”
“Eh?! No way! I wouldn’t had been able to scare it if that was the case…”
“I told you already it was just luck, now stay by my side! We’re facing it together.”
Aquarina, Justicio, Silvia, Agua, and their spirits stepped out of the cave with Pyuku protecting the cave behind them.
“CRAAAAHH!”
The furious Cursed Avian monster cried at them, spreading out its wings and unleashing a deadly storm of emerald winds against them!
FLUOOOSH!
The winds rushed towards them, pushing them down with immense force, almost making them kneel before the monster, a king of the skies.
Despite lacking its deadliest weapon, the beak it lost, it was still a deadly foe.
“Tier 8: Rank 6,” Aquarina said. “Its name is Cursed Avian Sky King: Quetzalcoatl… A named monster, quite the rare thing.”
As she said that, her massive aura erupted from her body at full power, manifesting into a nine-headed abyssal sea serpent made of spiritual and ethereal energies.
“Grrhhh?!”
The Avian Monster noticed Aquarina’s power, its eyes widening in disbelief.
“Yeah I’m pretty strong too! Wanna go?!”
